QUARANTINE HEAD AT FRUIT. PEST PARLEY
Foreshadowing further efforts to keep citrus fruit pests out of Orange co and the other orange, lemon and grapefruit counties of the State, Lee Strong, head of the Bureau of Antinion of th Stat Dipartmnt of Agriculur is attending a quarantine conference in Washington under the auspices of the Board of Horticulture of the Federal Department of Agriculture. Consequently Strong will not be able to attend the meeting of the Southern California Citrus Institute which will be held at Fullerton June 15-16.
The maggot fly, Mediterranean fruit fly and mellon fly are particularly in question as affecting citrus fruit, A. A. Brock, county horticulural commissioner, declared today. Herefore these have been kept out. Owing, however, to the increasing traffic between Mexico and Southern California points, the number of inspectors has been considerably increased, and more are likely to be appointed when state funds are available. Autos particularly are the target of the inspectors. Recently the Inspectors of Riverside-co were ordered to go armed by the sheriff.

STATE-WIDE HUNT FOR KIDNAPERS
LOS ANGELES, June 8.—A statewide hunt was started here today by the police and deputy sheriffs for four men who are believed to have kidnapped Mary Easthope, 11, and her brother Jack, 10, and who are fleeing from the state with them.
Mrs. D. Easthope, mother of the children who were kidnapped last night at Seventh and Carondelet-sta while in company with their grandmother Mrs. Ida C. Lewis, expressed the opinion today that the kidnapers were directed by her husband, from whom she sought a divorce, and that no harm will befall them.
According to Mrs. Lewis, she was returning the children to their home after taking them to a theater when four men drove up in a large car. Two of the men alighted, she said, knocked her down and fled with the tots.

Mr. Ernest Walker who is secretary-dressurer has been largely responsible for the activity shown by this energetic body of men. The other officers are Mr. Eldo West president, and Mr. I. W. Hargrave vice president. The list of members are as follows: Geo. Kellogg, V. C. Dillingham, S. T. Paine, Milton Shletty, R. Doe, J. Harlan, Eppereley, B. C. Townsend, G. C. Beal, First National Bank, J. W. Hargrave, E. R. West, McClatchie, Lumber Co., (San Pedro) A. P. Yerington, Foothill Graves, Y. L. Water Co., Citrus Association, Y. L. Library Dist., Y. L. Davidson Carl Seamans, Hammon Stahler, E. R. Walker, J. W. Murray.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Seamans were recent visitors to Los Angeles.
Quite a number from here attended the funeral of Reginald Johnson, brother of Ross Johnson of this place and son of Mrs. Luella Johnson of Los Angeles, which took place in Anaheim on Wednesday afternoon. Reginald was about 25 years of age and lived here until about ten years ago when he moved to Los Angeles. The family have a large circle of friends in this community who extend sincere sympathy.
Mrs. D. Eastope, mother of the children who were kidnapped last night at Soventhal and Carondelet-sta while in company with their grandmother Mrs.
Mrs. Eastope said she believed her husband followed her here from Chicago and stole the children from her temporary custody.
The sardine canneries that are adopting efficiency methods might do it the way a street conductor handles the situation.
Still, the rattle of the sabre over there doesn't menace life much more than the rattle of the jitneys over here.
Mrs. Della Miller has resigned her position with the "Star" to take effect in two weeks and will then leave for her old home in Canada. She will spend the summer months there and plans to go east in the fall, where she will spend the winter with relatives.
