Boy Scout News Letter
Mr. G. W. Finch, president of the Orange-co. council, Boy Scouts of America, expects to visit the national headquarters of the Boy Scouts in New York City this week. Finch is in attendance at the International Kiwanis convention at Atlanta Georgia, and goes from there to New York where he will spend two days a part of which time he will be the guest of the National Council. He will leave New York here by boat traveling to New Orleans. He will return to Orange-co. in time to witness the opening of Camp Ro-Ki-Li June 29.
The local headquarters is in receipt of a special letter of commendation from President Harding in recognition of the splendid progress that Orange County has made the last year. In addition to the letter of commendation, the president awarded the Orange County Council a beautiful red, white and blue streamer to be attached to their local council flag. This streamer was in recognition of the fact that this council had a one hundred per cent increase in membership in 1922.
President Harding's letter which was written to Mr. G. W. Finch, president of the council, is as follows:
May 22, 1923
Mr. G. W. Finch, president, local council, Boy Scouts of America, 215 Hill Bldg., Santa Ana Calif.
Dear Mr. Finch—I am pleased to learn that your council has met the specified conditions and is entitled to the award of the Anniversary Round-Up Streamer which I take great pleasure in presenting, with additional streamers for qualified troops. Please extend to each member of the local council, and others associated with you in the work, my hearty congratulations and good wishes. I desire especially to convey appreciation to the scoutmasters and to the boys of
POTATO GROWERS HOLD MEETING
Certified seed vs. scrub seed will be the subject of the second annual field potato growers of Orange-co. arranged by the Agricultural Extension Service and Farm Bureau for Wisconsin, June 12, 2 p.m.
Several potato plots will be visited by the growers under the direction of the farm advisor. The growers will start at Mrs. Ed Long's ranch, one fourth mile south and three-fourths mile east of Stanton—corner Dale ave and Hill st.
L. C. Holmes, Los Angeles Extension Service, will be one of the principal speakers. "Potato Fertilization" will be his subject—one that will be of particular interest to local growers. Considerable work has been done by Mr. Holmes in fertilizing potatoes. He will give the results of numerous tests.
The growers who conducted test plots this year co-operating with the Extension Service are: E. E. Miles, Stanton; A. Steve Page, Garden Grove; H. B. Clemons, Garden Grove; Geo. Cole, Buena Park; Ed. Long, Stanton.
These plots will be visited by the growers during the excursion. All potato growers are invited to attend.
SECOND INCOME TAX
Forty thousand So. Calif taxpayers who are meeting their income taxes on the installment plan must make their second quarterly payment on or before June 15. There were 270,682 separate returns filed in the Los Angeles District this year, as compared with 176,956 in 1922, a gain of 20.36 percent, which is the banner increase of the 65 Internal Revenue Districts in the United States. Approximately 150,000 persons paid their taxes in full on March 15.

SECOND INCOME TAX
Dear Mr. G. W. Fluch, president, local council, Boy Scouts of America, 215 Hill Bldg., Santa Ana Calif.
Dear Mr. Fluch: I am pleased to learn that your council has met the specified conditions and is entitled to the award of the Anniversary Round-Up Streamer which I take great pleasure in presenting, with additional streamers for qualified troops. Please extend to each member of the local council, and others associated with you in the work, my hearty congratulations and good wishes. I desire especially to convey appreciation to the scoutmasters and to the boys of those troops which have earned the troop award.
It is most stimulating to realize that through the Boy Scouts of America over 120,000 men are now enrolled for definite volunteer service, and that at present there are over 440,000 boy members of this splendid organization. Certainly it can be truly said that the men who are serving as active leaders, are helping in a most practical fashion to produce for the nation its greatest need—men of character trained for citizenship.
I am keenly anxious to do all in my power to extend the influence of the Scout Program, because America must avail itself of every resource for producing that type of American Citizenship which will not be content with acceptance of the privileges of citizenship without active participation in meeting the responsibilities of citizenship. In the Boy Scout movement, you not only place emphasis upon service, but you have worked out your program in such a way that boys actually "learn by doing" and in a natural manner acquire that attitude of mind which brings to them a consciousness that they must be citizens of the participating kind, and not mere on-lookers.
I do most sincerely hope that you Forty thousand So. Calif taxpayers who are meeting their income taxes on the installment plan must make their second quarterly payment on or before June 15. There were 270,682 separate returns filed in the Los Angeles District this year, as compared with 176,936 in 1922, a gain of 30.36 per cent, which is the banner increase of the 65 Internal Revenue Districts in the United States. Approximately 150,000 persons paid their taxes in full on March 15.
Collector Rex Goodell yesterday called attention to the fact that the mailing of a bill to a taxpayer at his last given address constitutes legal notice, and not the delivery of the letter. He urged taxpayers to notify the Internal Revenue office of changes in address as they are still liable to taxes and penalties, even though they do not receive notice of their indebtedness.
Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Beaver and G. W. Beaver went to Los Angeles today where they took Miss Orena to the children's hospital, where she is undergoing some treatments.
will continue your efforts to recruit increased leadership and greater resources. In order that more boys of scout age may have the advantages of this movement, which has earned for itself appraisement as one of the greatest assets our nation has today.
Sincerely yours,
WARREN G. HARDING.

COME TO ANAHEIM
Passenger traffic in and out of Anaheim during May showed a jump of 40 or 50 per cent over May of last year and bookings for June indicate a similar increase, according to C. A. Walker, Anaheim agent of the coast lines of the Santa Fe.
The Santa Fe is an example of the better traffic enjoyed by all the principal lines.
People come out here to look around, like the place and within a few months their furniture arrives, says Walker. Many evidently prospective citizens already have reached here.
It is impossible to get lower Pullman borths unless reservations are made four or five days in advance, says Walker, cwing to the heavy traffic.
On the other hand, many people are going home on visits. This was particularly true when the back-east excursions began on May 15. On that date 10 extra trains were run, some of them via Pullman and San Bernardino. On May 16 there were seven or eight extra trains. On May 17 four or five extras. Since then the California Limited has been run in two or three sections every day. Similarly, coming from Chicago and intervening point 18 thus trains daily have been run, of which 10 were extran, and the following days extra trains in proportion were run.
