LARGE COMPANY OF GUESTS ON SIXTH BIRTHDAY CATHERINE ANNA McULLAH was a very competent little lady Saturday when she entertained a large company of boys and girls in honor of her sixth birthday anniversary. She was assisted in entertaining by her mother, Mrs. C. A. Mcullah, and Miss Ruth Edmiston, who taught the children several new games and looked after the jolly features of the afternoon. Each child was presented with a pretty bright balloon after a balloon contest, as a favor. The birthday cake with six gleaming candles was adorably attractive, and certainly fasty. Ice cream cones were served with the cake. The small hostess received many pretty gifts in honor of the event. Guests included the following boys and girls: Charlotte Porsythe, Mona Tungart, Jeanette and Alice Knilp, Ethel Mathis, Fern Mathis, Gordon Lewis, Albert Clark, Raymond Tedrick, Dorothy and Margaret McAllister, Laura Bell and Erline Heester, Kathethee and Ellen Collins, Lillean and Vigil M. Notable Pianist Tonight Interest of Anaheim musicians Every Pupil Promoted Reflecting great credit upon the teachers and proving the industry of the pupils of Cypress school, the announcement that every child advanced a grade created much satisfaction. The eighth grade graduating exercise last week were entertaining and an even dozen young folk will enter Anaheim Union high school next autumn. Dan Norlan, whose toes were severed by an auto passing over them, and who is a patient in the hospital, and Miss Ruth Farber, injured by a passing auto struck her down on the highway, were on the list, but the average grades had made their promotion certain before the accidents prevented their presence at school the final week. Notable Churchman Comes Dr. E. F. Spelhorn, superintendent of the Lutheran church extension board, of Columbus, Ohio, will be at Greece Lutheran church this evening and deliver an address. Dr. Spelhorn is a churchman of note and the local congregation feels very happy in announcing his presence. He is in the west in connection with organization of the district of California, which includes all Lutheran churches in California. The meetings have been in session in St. Peter's church, Santa Ann, the past five days. Rev. J. H. Peters, pastor of Grace church, was re-elected editor of the California Missionary. Mr. and Mrs. Vard Notable Pianist Tonight Interest of Anaheim musicians is centered in the piano recital this evening to be given by Miss Georgette Kober, president of the Sherwood School of Music in Chicago. The recital will be held in Fischer's hall, 125 W. Center St., Miss Kober is an artist at the piano, and was the student selected by Mr. Sherwood as his principal assistant. Upon his death, she succeeded to his position and has held it with credit for several years. The program this evening will contain numbers of interest and pleasure to everyone. W.R.C. Meeting Tomorrow The Women's Relief Corps will meet tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock in Eagle's hall, corner South Lemon and Chestnut. Department president Nina J. Schoer, of Santa Monica will be present, as well as seven members of the order from Santa Ana. All local members are urged to attend the meeting. Walker, of the Presbyterian church, has been appointed by the faculty and student body of Occidental, which he has been attending, to represent the college for two years in the Christian college for young men in Hong Chow, China, located about ten miles inland from Shanghai. Mr. Walker will teach several subjects and assist in athletic instruction. He will visit here with his parents for a time during vacation, which begins in two weeks, and sail August 9 from San Francisco. Miss Elizabeth Walker, sister of the young man, also an Occidental student, will pass her vacation at home. Attend Riverside Church Among the out-of-town guests at the marriage of Miss Esther Elger to Mr. Hugo Klein, Saturday afternoon at 4:30, were Dr. and Mrs. Durbahn, Methodist district superintendent, Rev. and Mrs. R. Zurbuchen, a former pastor of West Broadway M. E. Church, and of which the bride's father is now pastor; A. Loebe, of Los Angeles, and Miss Esther Roesch, dean of Orten School for Girls, in Los Angeles. After an informal reception and wedding supper, Mr. and Mrs. Klein left for a honeymoon to Yosemite and the north. Returning, they will visit here a few days, then go to their new home in Los Angeles. Visit Loma Linda Mr. and Mrs. Arcit Henry and four sons, Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Toblin and son Nerland and daughter Helen, Mr. and Mrs. A. Williams and Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Schlotter and Miss Thelen went to Loma Linda yesterday where they visited Mrs. H. B. Hawes. They found her considerably improved. The Schlotters remained at the sanitarium while the others of the party went to Yucalpa for cherries. Elect Missionary Officers The Woman's Missionary society of the Christian church will meet tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 with Mrs. I. W. Poling. Election of officers is one of the important matters of business. Miss Cori McCorkle and Elzo McClusky of the U.S.C., were visitors yesterday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. S.W.Shifh of Fullerton.McClucky was injured recently in an automobile accident, but is getting along well now. Henry Wicker, of Los Angeles, was a recent visitor at the William Wickler home south of Cypress for the past two or three days. He was much interested in the oil derrick in course of construction in that vicinity. Mrs. E. L. Davis of Boise, Idaho, is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Robert Scott of Anaheim. Mr. Scott is employed at the Jones' Barber shop and was a former resident of Boise. Now patients at the local sanitarium include: Miss Layina Newsom, Anaheim and Mrs. A. H. Halford, Tustin. The work to be done in accordance with the profiles, plans and specifications adopted by the Board of Supervisors in the office of said Board and in the office of County Superintendent in the Court House. Progressive Visit Yesterday Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Rogers and two small sons, Junior and Johnnie, of Torrence, Mrs. Rogers sister, Mrs. Mabel Braswell, or Cairo, Ill., were guests at the maternal Androws ranch home yesterday. Late in the afternoon with the hostess family, they were joined by friends in Orange and all drove to Laguna Beach where an excellent luncheon was enjoyed. A short visit in Santa Ana with friends en route home and an evening at the ranch completed the pleasant day. Wedded at S. S. Picnic A wedding with the great out-of-doors as the setting and a whole park full of guests, featured the Orange co-Sunday schools picnic Saturday, when Miss Maymie Armstrong and George Merceran were united in marriage. Miss Armstrong is an active worker in the Spurgeon Memorial church. The Santa Ana Presbyterian church also was holding a picnic, and the attendants at the pretty affair included hundreds of friends and spectators. To Hear State Report Anaheim W. C. T. U. will meet tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 with Mrs. T. H. Walker at the Presbyterian manse. DISMISS MATERNITY APPEAL (WASHINGTON, June 4.)—The U.S. supreme court today dismissed for want of jurisdiction, suits brought by the state of Massachusetts and by bank and payable to the order of the County of Orange, or a bidder's bond for an amount of less than five (5) per cent of the aggregate sum of the bid, as a guarantee that bidder will enter into the proposed contract if the same is awarded to him, and in event of failure to enter into such contract said check or bond shall become the property of the County. The amount of the bond to be given to secure a faithful performance of the contract for said work shall be twenty-five (25) per cent of the contract price thereof, and an additional bond in an amount equal to fifty per cent (50%) of the contract price for said work shall be given to secure the payment of claims for the material or supplies furnished for the performances of the work contracted to be done by the Contractor; any work or labor or any kind done thereon, and also will be required to furnish a certificate that he carries compensation insurance covering his employees upon work to be done under contract, which may be entered into between him and the said County for construction of street Copper will be held intending bidders upon application. Cards On Birthday A merry surprise was given Mrs. C. A. Clark last evening by a party of friends in honor of her birthday anniversary. Mrs. Clark was presented with a handsome cut glass sandwich plate. Five hundred was proposed and the game was played until late in the evening. Prizes were given the Clark and Durkee families. Mrs. Durkee made high and Mrs. Clark low for the ladies. Mr. Durkee high and Mr. Clark low for the gentlemen. A luncheon which the guests had thoughtfully brought along was served.
