BALDWIN NAMES SUCCESSOR TO FINANCE POST Sir Robert Horne. Sir Robert Horne has been named to succeed Stanley Baldwin as chancellor of the exchequer. Baldwin, who recently succeeded Bonar Law as British premier, appointed Horne. DEEPER THEY DIG, MORE OIL THEY GET (Br ELLWOOD J. MUNGER) The deeper they go the better they get seems to be the situation at Long Beach. Recent developments in the beach field seem to indicate that the deep sands have just been touched and that Long Beach has a tremendous future ahead of it in its deep sand production. The Shell Company's most recent completion a mile deep well drilled on the Foster property started off at 2000 barrels. The production registers 27 gravity and the well has over 1900 feet of an oil bearing zone enough to keep it on production for many years. The Hub Oil Company one of the many small companies at Long Beach that has had a lot of good luck is again in the lime light with a 3000 barrel well. The Hub Oil Company's new producer is its original Rissman well re-drilled and completed at 4515. A peculiar circumstance about the new producer is its comparative low gravity. The Hub Rissman is making 21 gravity. It seems peculiar that such a deep sand well would make this gravity oil. There is a rather interesting story attached the completion of the Interstate Oil Company's Babcock well. The Babcock property was first leased to the A. & T. Oil Company a concern that had a short term on life. The Interstate Oil Company acquired the property but did not proceed at once with development. Taking advantage of the Interstate's delaying of drilling some little stock company slipped in and put a rig on the property. A squabble over the title followed and ended by the Interstate paying the stock quatter for the rig and materials to get off. On adjoining property the Marine Oil Corporation was drilling a well and had the well down a 1000 feet or so at the time the Interstate spudded in. The Interstate had good luck with the drilling and soon the two wells were drilling neck and neck. The Marine however finished a little in advance of the Interstate and as the Interstate drilled on the drill ran into the screen casing supposed to be set in the Marine Oil Corporations well. For several weeks the Interstate was drilling on the iron that the Marine people thought was in their well. The Interstate Oil Company completed the well at 3726 feet and got a 3000 barrel production. Young Men!
