YEAR'S STUDY CLOSES WITH RUSSIAN MUSIC THE final meeting of the Music section of the Anaheim Ebell club was a very interesting one, held yesterday with Mrs. Thomas Lumsdon, on South Kroger-st. Despite the fast that so many of the ladies are occupied with the club house building arrangements, a goodly number was present. A study of Russian composers constituted the afternoon lesson. A paper on the growth and history of music in Russia as a nation was given by the leader, Mrs. C. Herbert Goodale. The life and work of Rubenstein, who was instrumental in founding the national conservatory of music at Moscow and what was then St. Petersburg—now Petrograd during the 1850s. The piano numbers by Miss Stella Schwentker, Kamme Nol-Gostrow, and Romance, were well received. A pliaho duet, Trot de Cavelier, and the song, "Thou Art Like Unto a Flower," by Mrs. J. O. Schwentker, were both heard with appreciation. An able article was prepared by Mrs. Joe Kustiner on the compositions and work of Trahaikowski, including a review of the Fourth Symphony. Owing to a necessary change in the program, record numbers of the composer were lent by the Messrs Schmidt and Austin, of those music houses. Rachmanioff, a product of the Moscow conservatory, was presented in a short review. It was the consensus of opinion that Amaranth Card Party Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hetebrink of Pullerton were host and hostess last evening at their spacious Chapman-st home to a large party of Amaranth members. Five hundred and whist was the diversion of the evening.
