SANTA FE MARVEL HIGH GRAVITY FIELD Santa Fe Springs continues to hold its reputation and record for the marvel high gravity field of the world. It would be interesting to see just what this great light oil producing Field would do if pipe lines and storage were in a position to take care of the field's output. There are more than thousand barrels at Santa Fe Springs than in any other field in California. It is estimated that if the big producers were allowed to produce at capacity Santa Fe Springs would be rated at 300,000 barrels daily. At the present time the output of the field is being kept down to less than two hundred thousand barrels. Individual success at Santa Fe Springs last week fell to Oscar Howard who brought in a 7000 barrel well on the Bell property. Bell No. 2 was completed at 4687 and started off making the usual 35 gravity product. The well was brought in under the supervision of Ike Burrows a brother of Mike Burrows of Central Petroluem fame. The Federal Drilling company under the management of Al Johnston demonstrated an ability to bring in big wells when Sehalf-Noble No. 2 was completed at 4497 a 7000 barrel producer. The well according to the producer agreement has been pinched down. The gravity is the usual 35. The Shell Company's Thompson redrilled South Whittler Community No. 6 and brought it back on production a 1700 barrel well. The Standard's deep test well on the north lines of the field. Brownrigg-Keller No. 2 is down 5980 feet and shows nothing more than sandy brown shale. Pacific Clay Pipe No. 2, another deep test well is to cement thru tubing at 5480. The outlook for these two deep wells is not particularly encouraging. The Standard Oil Company's big well of the week was brought in on the Walker property. Walker No. COUNTY DELEGATE TO SANTA CRUZ A. A. The Standard Oil Company's big well of the week was brought in on the Walker property. Walker No. 7 is the well, completed at 4571 it came in at 6440 barrels, 34.6 gravity. The advent of Walker 7 gives the Standard Oil company four big producers and proves the Walker holdings to be one of the very choice in the Santa Fe Springs field. Twin Bells Oil company Grohs 2 has come back a nice well. Redrilled and deepened to 4368 feet the producer started again at 5700 barrels. The Twin Bells big well is another product of the Federal Drilling company. One of the smaller oil companies that is destined to make a great showing at Santa Fe Springs is the White Star Oil company. With one of the greatest producers in the field already in, and two more nearing the deep Meyer sands the White Star in a few weeks will be rated with the big producing companies of the field. The White Star wells are being drilled by the York-Smullin Drilling company. Both York and Smullin are old time Standard Oil developers with editable records. For the development of the south extension of the field the operators are looking to the Gilbert Petroleum company. The Gilbert's No. 2 is at better than 5200 where nothing par- TO SANTA CRUZ A. A. The west extension of Santa Fe Springs now seems to attract the attention of the operators as it now stands the only open section of the great field. Both the M. & H. Oil company and the Co-Operative Petroleum Syndicate have been reporting favorable showings. At $170 the syndicate took a core sample and found some showings. The M. & H. has been flowing up from 2800 feet. It seems to be the consensus opinion now that big production will developed at from 3500 to 2800 feet. HELD TO HI COURT ON I. W. W. CHARGE Pat McGeehan, who with three others was charged with criminal syndicalism in the circulation of I. W. W. literature and in organizing or helping to organize an association to abet criminal syndicalism, was held today by Justice J. B. Cox for the superior court. McGeehan was an organizer at Huntington Beach, although J. H. Ryckman of Los Angeles, his attorney, declared that the specific charges in the two counts had not been proved and that the I. W. W. was not an organization forbidden by the laws of California. W. E. Townsend and Jack Diamond, said to be former I. W. W.'s gave testimony illustrating the way the order carried out its tenets. In the course of their evidence it was shown that Hoosier is the hame of any man not an I. W. W., Sissor-bill a man worker who is not a member and Sissorene a woman worker outside the organization. This afternoon Dunnie Crowley, V. J. Thompson and Ralph Colescott will be examined on the same charges as McGeehan. One complaint against McGeehan, Crowley and Thompson was prepared. They were arrested in a tent at Huntington Beach, where it was alleged they had enrolled workers in the oil fields into the I. W. W. A receipt book of McGeehan's was exhibited, showing various sums paid to join the order. There is an initiation fee of $2.00 due of 50 cents per month. Attorney Ryckman succeeded in having McGeehan's ball cut to $2,000 from $5,000 and that of the others is expected to be reduced to the same amount. This morning saw Judge J. B. Cox's first reappearance in court. 8TH GRADE EXAMS Examinations for eighth grade pupils have started this morning at Junior High School. The tests will continue three days. Thu papers are all sent to Santa Ana where they are checked by county officials. Examinations for the under grades will not be held for several weeks. Th grammar schools are out June 9. NURSING SCHOOL OPENS JUNE FIRST Young women of good education are again given an opportunity to take up study and training for the profession of nursing. The Orange co hospital is opening a training class about June first and asks for applications in unlimited numbers. The length of training covers 25 months and a special instructor is engaged. The course is accredited by the state bureau and every advantage is given the young woman who accepts this profession as her work. Dr. H. E. Zalser is anxious that the class be a large one and is ready to accept applications at any time between now and the end of the month. FREK FAHMER'S BULLETINS Fifty thousand copies of Farmer's Bulletins prepared by the Department of Agriculture experts on more than 650 subjects of interest to the modern farmer are available for free distribution through the Washington office of Senator Shortridge. Many of the bulletin pertain to peculiar agricultural conditions in California. AND FEDERAL DIVIDING HONORS At Huntington Beach the Amalgamated Oil Co., and the Federal Drilling Co., divided the production honors for the week. The Amalgamated came in strong with two producers aggregating better than 600 barrels. Miley-Keek 22 proved the big well. Completed at 4676 Miley-Keek 32 started off at 3850 barrels. Fowler 2 the Amalgamated second completion at 4747 started off at 2400 barrels. The Amalgamated Oil Co., now leads the Huntington producers for big production and has made one of the most enviable records of any company in the field. The A. O. Co., has made its big success with deep production. In the boom days of town lot drilling at Huntington Beach the Federal Drilling Co., conceived the idea of drilling a well on its own hook. The Harvey property adjoining the Pantages Petroleum Co., the west was selected. Encountering about all the drilling difficulties that could be encountered the well did not got below the top sands and did not make anything. Redrilling and deepening was started a few months ago and last week at 4906 feet a 2500 barrel was put on production. At Torrance the feature of the week was the 500 barrel well completed by the Chanslor-Canfield Midway Oil Co. The new producer the second largest now in the field was drilled to 3014 feet, and is producing 26 gravity oil. The Petroleum Midway put its Craven No. 1 on production at 3203 feet and it is doing about 70 barrels, 14 gravity: In the old Brea field the Fullerton Oil Co., completed a well on which it has been working on for past two years. No. 17 drilled 4320 the well is making 250 barrels. The tallest oil derrick in the world is functioning perfectly for H. L. Whiston at Montebello. The Whiston well, Bicknell No., I got into very hard drilling right under the grass roots. Some 900 feet of hole has been made and the drilling continues in conglomerate. Interest is drawn to the Arcadia Oil Company's well as it goes down. Drilling is no wat 4135 and at this depth it was thought that the drill was coming into sand. The Arcadia has made a determined effort extending over a period of three years to get a well down and the efforts are deserving. Where will Southern California's next oil field be located? A year ago when the 25 or more wildcat wells got underway that question could be answered with some degree of certainty. Now with a dozen or more of the wells past the 4500 and 4800 foot mark no one will make expected to be reduced to the same amount. This morning saw Judge J.B. Cox's first reappearance in court. ROTARY TEAMS WILL CLASH THURSDAY Fullerton Rotary club will have a practice indoor game with Capt. Eddie Schneidera Anaheim team Thursday at Fullerton High school field. The Fullerton team has bowed to the locals three successive times. Anaheim Kiwanis队 had challenged the Rotarians to a three-game series, the first battle to be staged Thursday of next week. The losing team will have to stand for a banquet at which the winners will be guests. ANAHEIM BOYS B. B. TEAM MEETS POETS Coach Ray Millott's diamond lads are scheduled to meet Whittler players Friday on the local field. Anaheim boys are not taking in many honors this year. They have only two victories to their credit. Fullerton leads the school with six games won and two lost. Fullerton and Santa Ana play on the latters diamond. These are the last games of the baseball season: the hope of picking up a very deep sand. When in need advertise in, the Plain Dealer.
