BIG CROWD ENJOYS
CHAUTAUQUA DRAMA
The 1926 Chautauqua season was given an auspicious sendoff last night, when between 400 and 500 saw the great American play, "Turn to Night," the opening show of the 13 being given.
Call Lundgren as Joe Bascom, Geneva Winnman as Betty Bascom, who falls in love with "Muggs," played by John Brady, all hit the bullseye.
The story briefly tells how Bascom, after leaving Sing Sing prison at Osming, N.Y., finds that his aged mother is about to lose the old farm. He goes home, and thither some of his former fellow inmates follow him. They go to work, start a peach jam factory and save the place. Bascom's mother, however, is the one who really makes this possible, by reforming the hearts of the former prisoners.
The programs today and tomorrow are:
This afternoon, 2:30 p.m., Prelude, Alice Louise Shrode, Peerless Juvenile Entertainer; 3:00 p.m., Musical Lecture-Demonstration, Evelyn M. McClusky, "The Music Lady," Junior Chautauqua.
This evening, 8:00 p.m., Entertainment Prelude, Alice Louise Shrode; 8:30 p.m., Address, "China and the Future Peace of the Pacific," Dr. Ng Poon Chew, "The Chinese Mark Twain."
Tuesday afternoon, 2:30 p.m., Concert, Charles Mitchell Mixer's Orchestral Quartet.
Tuesday evening, 8:00 p.m., Concert-Recital, James Hamilton, American Lyric Tenor, and Mixer's Orchestral Quartet.
