FLIERS TRY FOR 48-HR FLIGHT
Congratulations From All Parts of World Pour in on Aviators
SAN DIEGO. May 4.—While the laurels of victory are still green, the U. S. Army aviators, Lieutenants Oakley Kelly and John A. MacReady, will seek still another world record. This time, it was revealed today their goal will be a sustained flight of forty eight hours and it will be attempted shortly at Dayton, O.
Telegram and even cablegrams from France; Italy and Sweden pour in on the aviators today, congratulations for them on their world's record flight.
The day of triumph for the two aviators was to have culminated last night at a dinner at which several hundred American Legion men and prominent citizens of San Diego and United States army and navy officers were gathered.
The guests were present. Lieutenant Kelly showed up half an hour late, and as embarrassed as a school boy with his first long pants. Lieutenant MacReady did not show up at all and it was whispered about the hotel of Henry Woodhouse. President of the Aerial League of America who arranged the flight of the dirigible R-34 to America, believes the achievements of Lieutenants MacReady and Kelly in the T-2 will revive interest in non-stop flights of greater hazard and that transAtlantic flying will be under way again soon. His views are expressed in the following article.
BY HENRY WOODHOUSE
(Written especially for International News Service.)
NEW YORK, May 4.—The achievement of Lieutenants MacReady and Kelly in the T-2 was needed to revive interest in non-stop flying. Their wonderful feat will quicken the spirit of daring that is needed for transAtlantic flights.
The distance they covered, 2,600 miles, is far more than enough to span the Atlantic.
The route of Alcock and Brown, from New Foundland to Ireland, was only 1,800 miles. From New Foundland to the Azores is 1,375 miles and the remaining lap to Portugal adds 1,093 miles, a total of 2,468 miles.
In an automobile so Kelly became the hero of the evening all by himself!
There were no women present at the banquet, but when the flyers lunched with Major H. H. Arnold a few minutes after completing their continental flight, Miss Marr

Soon Will Be Across Seven Seas
There are a dozen possible routes easy distances that may tempt flies of many nations now that the 1-2 ha shown the possibility of the single motor plane and human courage and endurance.
South America to Barbados to the Canals is another route. Cape Oran to Cape Verde to the African coast is another. New Foundland, Greenland and Iceland and hoe to England by the Faroe Islands can be made easily.
Trade winds will aid trans-Atlantic fliers and the various routes have various special values. It is not looking into the future to predict the time when mail-carrying airplanes will be roaring the seven seas.
Since Alcoa and Brown made their historic flight, air navigation has been added by the radio direction compass and great improvement in aircraft constitution.
Up to the third of this flight the double motor plane held the record for long dance flying. Now the contest between the single and the double motor planes will be renewed with the result of greater accomplishment in the conquest of the air.

Clothing, Reed Furniture & Toy Wagon Factories Seek Locations Here
Urging the wisdom of more local factories, O. H. Renner, former president of the Merchants' and Manufacturers' Ass'n, today told of several remarkable opportunities for new industries.
1. Clothing factory with orders now on the books totaling $70,000. Factory does a normal business of $20,000 annually, and cannot supply the demand. R. T. Watkins, of Angeles owner, is man Renner has known for the last 10 years and for whom Renner will vouch. Watkins has exclusive patent on a leather vest on which he has been working for 20 years. Vest remains soft and pliable, despite exposure to damp. Renner has sold this vest for the last two years. Says there is nothing like it made anywhere. Watkins seeks a suitable site outside Los Angeles, where land is cheaper. Can employ a force of 20 to start.
2. Reed Furniture factory. Weil-established. Makes excellent articles.

Parties contemplating participating in the parade with old or new cars should get in touch with the agent representing the individual car, so that such agent may have some conception of how many cars he will have in line. Cars that have no agency representation in the city will fall in at the end of the Santa Ana division.
All cars entered in the races will be grouped in division four, while entrants in some of the comedy contests will be formed in division two.
