Johnson, mayor of Gary, Ind., famous steel city, was sentenced to serve one year and six months at the federal penitentiary, Altanta, Ga., and fined $1,000 in federal court today on a charge of conspiracy to violate the federal liquor laws. Fifty-one other convicted with Johnson and five who pleaded guilty were also sentenced. ITALIANS FAVORED (By International News Service) ROME, April 20.—A consistory will be held in June, but only Italians will get the red hat of the cardinalate, it was learned at the Vatican today. Planes Off On Last Leg of Trip WASHINGTON, April 30.—Three of the big Martin bombing planes which left San Diego, Caliast Thursday for an experimental flight across the continent, landed at Bolling Field, near here, today. The planes were piloted by Marine aviators and were greeted by Secretary of the Navy, Denby; Major John A. Lejeune, Commandant of the Marine corps, and other naval officials, including a representative of the Japanese embassy. Morris Realty Co. 2000 RECEIVE VOW OF KU KLUX KLAN (By International News Service) LOS ANGELES, April 30.—More than 2,000 citizens of Los Angeles and vicinity are today cogitating upon the solemnity of the oath administered to them Saturday night in open initiation, when they became members of Klan No. 1, Invisible Empire, Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, at Ocean Park Heights, before thousands of spectators. The spectators were forced to keep out of hearing of the actual administration of the oath by the Ku Klux. An American flag, illuminated with flood lights, played an important part in the ceremonies, which lasted more than two hours. Fires Upon Planes Taking Prison Film SAN QUENTIN, Calif., April 30.—Demand was made today by Warden James Johnston of the state prison here, upon a motion picture company for a film made by a plane which circled over the prison Sunday resulting in the machine being fired upon by guards. Warden Johnson announced he would also refer the matter to the attorney general for criminal prosecution. Alleged airplane smuggling of dope into the prison resulted in the orders to guards to fire on planes violating rules against flying over the prison enclosure.
