YOUNG FRIENDS PARTICIPATE IN HAPPY EVENT MISS MARY ELLEN QUILL was the hostee when her sister, Mrs. L. Y. Mattes, 748 North Clementine, gave her a party to celebrate her birthday. The guests all came attired as kiddies and looked very sweet and demure in their extremely youthful costumes. The home was appropriately decorated in pink for boys, blue for girls, according to tradition and custom. The jolly game, "Bille Whakers," was an exciting contest in which Lucile Hatfield and Byron Dahl won prizes. Refreshments were then served, the guests seating themselves in a circle on the floor. The birthday cake was a beautiful and delicious portion of the light repost. It was iced in white and had the required number of candles on it. Children's candles were also served. The honorée was assisted by her sisters, Miss Eleanor Quill and Mrs. Mattes, the hostess. The guest list included the young Misses Modesta and Mary Jane Van Bosver, Lois Dunham, Vida Sutherland, Helen Novak, Helen Tucker, Virginia Noll, Lucielle Hatfield, Thelma Sanchez and the Messas Byron Dahl, Walter Blakeley, Britta Price, Lawrence Mitchell, John Eley, Lawrence Bennie. Party for Departed Nurse A farewell theatre party in Los Angeles was given by her Anaheim friends to Miss Aona Reisterberg, government nurse, who left Wednesday to take up her new duties in the hospital in Camp Kearny. Miss Reisterberg who recently came here from St. Paul, Minn., served 12 months in the U.S. navy at Norfolk. King’s Helpers Elect The King’s Helpers class of the Calvary Baptist church met at the home of their teacher, Mrs. J. P. Jenkins, last evening and elected the following officers: Norma Armbrusan president; Fern Murch, vice president; Thelma Crancy, secretary; Nancy Durroughs, assistant; Mary Lewis Gott, treasurer. A social hour followed the business meeting in which games were played, interspersed with music. Refreshment of brick ice cream and wafers were rerved. Miss Reistenberg who recently came here from St. Paul, Minn., served 15 months in the U.S. navy at Norfolk, Va., during the period of the world war. After peace was declared she took up nursing in the U.S. veterans hospital in St. Paul, where she has been for the past two years. Five Guests at Club With five guests of the Monte Carlo card club, meeting with Mrs. W. E. Alexander, Sr., the afternoon yesterday was pleasantly passed over the favorite game. Mrs. W. B. Howland won head prize. The three tables were spread later for light luncheon served by the hostess. Club guests were the Mendates William Locke, W. E. Alexander Jr., D. J. Houts on the occasion of a Silver Tea given by Orange Temple No. 60, of which Mrs. Houts and Mrs. C. W. Hedges both of Anaheim, are members. A discussion of Current events was conducted while the ladies employed their fingers with fancy work. Pythian Sisters activities were also interesting topics. At 4 o'clock a two-course luncheon was served, in which Mrs. Houts was assisted by her daughter-in-law, Mrs. W. H. Houts, Mrs Vern Field and Mrs Daly Parket. The Houts home was pretty decorated with yellow and purple wild flowers from the San Bernardino mountains. Guests present were the Mesdames J. C. Idor, Harry E. Scott, Kluse, Frank Davis, C. E. Robinson, W. H. Houts and Parker, of Anaheim; Wallace and Helds, of Santa Ana; and Morningstar and Miss Margaret Holditch, of Villa Park. A delicious lunchon was served late in the evening in which the hot Jolly Pike Party A merry party of Anaheim girls motored to Long Beach last evening where they enjoyed the pike amusements. Among those being the joy-wheel, Jack rabbit races, racing horses etc. Late in the evening they were joined by a quartet of boy friends and all went to the dance at the Majestic. In the group were Misses Edyth Hayward, Alvina Jost, Helen Jordan, Rose Poyet, Clara Heinzze, Lillian Degryse, Leona and Catherine Van Boovan, Mildred Kenip, Elsa Sterfens, the Messra Paul Groye, Alvin Swanson, Bob Lusk and George Carlson. GARDEN GROVE GARDEN GROVE, April 7.—(Spl.) —Mr. and Mrs. Martin of Harperville and Mrs. C. L. Mann have returned from a two weeks' outing at Hot Springs. Mr. and Mrs. H T. Keele and Mrs. R T. Gibbons returned Wednesday from San Francisco They were accompanied home by Mrs. Keele's sister of Honolulu, who will visit here for a few weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Eaton, accompanied by their daughter, Miss Eaton, one of the teachers in the high school, and Miss Pearl Blagholder, are enjoying a weeks' vacation at San Francisco. S. L Sloniker, formerly instructor in manual arts here, was a business caller in town Saturday. Miss Maud Aronhall and Miss Thelmia Emerson entertained their Sunday school classes Saturday afternoon at the former's home, with an Easter party. Games were enjoyed and the girls helped color Easter eggs. Dainty refreshments were served and each one present was given an Easter basket to take home. CLOSES FIRST DECADE WITH DINNER PARTY TEN years is an enviable age, especially when one is a healthy American boy like Doyle McDonald, with a considerate mother who gets up a dandy dinner and invites several of the follows in to help eat it. Doyle's birthday yesterday was the incentive for such an occasion and the dinner was served at 4 o'clock in five courses. Of course the big birthday cake was among the very interesting features of the menu, and its looks were equalled only by its taste. The boys played out of dors at real appetite, and the way they ate that meal was certainly a compliment to the cook. The guest list included Leland Harden, Tom Pischer, Jack Erickson, Melvin Randall, Charlie Ennis, Rosa Brownfield, Adrian Perry, Chester Burkhardt, Clifford Neuno, who with the happy young host, had a joyous afternoon. Sister Society Visits The best attendance in the history of the Grace Lutheran Ladies Aid society made the afternoon meeting yesterday a banner affair.The meeting was held with Mrs H Dickman,and a joyous surprise was the visit of the Ladies Aid of the Santa Ana Lutheran church. Mrs J. Koone president of the visiting organization responded to the welcome from the local society.A letter from a missionary in India was Mr Charles Doerner, read by Mrs Dickman and discussed by the memoirs Three new members were enrolled,Mrs F Poters Mrs H Bush and Mrs H Hile. A will be held Tuesday at 2:30 in the Central school building. Delegates to the annual district P-T. A will be chosen, the number being guaged by a representative for every ten members, and th president. A program full of interest has been arranged. Carl Rohle, director of the Anambe Community Choral society, will talk on "Music," and Rev. J. A. Gelssinger has chosen "Books in the Home." For his topic, The attendance promises to be unusually large. Four Four at Backs Home All members of the Four Four card club were present Thursday at the meeting and social evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Backs Jr. The dinner as usual, was the opening feature of the evening and was served in the La Palma, on East Center. Mrs. Wallop won ladies prize and the host, Mr. Backs, the men's high score. Four table were played. To Reside in Long Beach Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Ramage are leaving Anaheim for the summer to make their home in Long Beach, nearer Mr. Ratange's work in the oil fields. They have been members of the jolly young married crowd and will be greatly missed. However, they plan to return in the autumn and in the meantime will keep in close touch with Anahelia by attending affairs whenever possible. Two Exciting Events "One Exciting Night" followed by one exciting morning was the diversions of the three youthful Anaheim ladies last evening. Misses Verna Mitchell, Arline Piper and Thelma Guy went to the United Theatre to see Griffith's play, "One Exciting Night". After the show they were invited to be the guests of Mrs. Jennifer Jones at a slumber party and the trio set the alarm for 4:39 this morning. On any other morning 7 o'clock would S.L. Mrs. S.W.Gage entertained the L.T.L.'s at an Easter party Friday afternoon from 2 to 4 o'clock in the small Baptist bungalow. Games were played and an egg hunt engaged in that proved great sport for the children. Refreshments were served and a pleasant time enjoyed. Miss Hazel McFarland's Sunday school class of girls from the Baptist church entertained Milo Allen's class of boys with a weiner bake at the Lehhardt home in the New Hope district Tuesday evening. Out of doors games were played and a very enjoyable evening was spent. Mrs.Irvine German had the misfortune to catch her right land in the electric ringer Monday while washing clothes. Only her presence of mind in releasing the rollers prevented a serious accident. As it was no bones were broken, altho her hand was quite badly crushed. Miss Mettle Chaffee returned Tuesday evening after a few days visit in Los Angeles. At the home of Mr. and Mrs.E.M.Dozler Saturday was a very pleasant gathering. Altar Party is Success A large number was present yesterday afternoon at the five hundred party given by the members of the Altar Society at the K.of C.hall. Miss Edith Harris,a missionary for six years in Africa,spent Monday day and Tuesday at the M.B.Allerhome. Quintet Enjoys Theatre Misses Alma and Lydia Prahn entertained at dinner recently the Misses Amy and Anna Degryse and Evelyn Karsten. After the dinner the quintet went to the California theatre where they enjoyed the show. Local Players Friday The three-act farce, "Her Husband's Wife," will be presented Friday night, April 12, in the Fairyland theatre, by the Anaheim Community Players, with a capable cast. This is the first public appearance of the organization, who have proven themselves capable in the one-acts presented in a smaller way. First Party of Series Mrs. John Eneither gave the first of a series of parties yesterday afternoon to a large guest list. Cards formed the center of interest after luncheon which was tastily appointed and served at 1 o'clock. Prizes were awarded for highest and low score. Scott of Orange were dinner guests Tuesday evening at the A. D. Hoenshel home on Stanford-Ave. Miss Helen Hoenshel has returned to her studies in the Occidental college, Los Angeles. Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Preston and little daughter Verna, of El Segunda visited Sunday with Mrs. Preston's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Stillens. The Misses Hattie Brown, Helen Walker and Loya Holt left Wednesday morning for a few days outing at Palm Springs. The regular business and social meeting of the Loyal Helpers of the Methodist Sunday school was held at the church parlors Tuesday evening. There was a good attendance and a splendid program and lunch was enjoyed. Mr. and Mrs. J. Cook of Anaheim were callers at the E. R. Stillona home Monday evening. Mrs. S. Horowitz and children visited from Friday until Tuesday with relatives in Los Angeles and at Watts. Miss Leala Chaffee returned to Ontario Sunday evening, after spending a week with her mother, Mrs. Susan Chaffee. Miss Grae Ireland of Madera was a guest of Miss Evelyth Aldrich Sunday. She graciously responded to request for a solo or two and heartily pleased her hearers. As she stood near the piano, uncinetics of the city movements of some of the guests, a large basket was placed at her feet, and as she ran to the center of the room to open it, found an assortment of kitchen utensils, which will conveniently grace the kitchen of their new home, 425 East-st. Chorus singing and other music brought to a close a delightful evening. April 20 Important Date The Executive board of the Women's Missionary society of the Presbyterian church met at the home of the Missa Aubert yesterday afternoon to plan for a special missionary meeting to be held April 20, at the church. All ladies of the congregation please take notice and keep the date open. Two-States Picnic A great picnic reunion will be held at Sycamore Grove, Los Angeles April 14 for those who have ever lived in Connecticut or Rhode Island. There will be county registers where everyone can locate former friends. All are requested to bring basket lunches and coffee will be served free to those who buy souvenir badges. King's Heralds Practice ISSUE CARDS TO NOTABLE EVENT OF LATE APRIL MORE than 200 invitations have been issued for the elaborate wedding of Miss Esther Amnette Pember, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Pember to Mr. Jbha Frederick Kemper, son of Mrs. Lizzie Kemper, at the White Temple Wednesday, April 25, at high noon. Miss Pember is one of Aushelm's popular young insiders and the wedding is anticipated with considerable interest. For several season she was one of the singers in the Orange-co Choral Union and is prominent in the Amaranth and other local organizations. Miss Pember's bridal party will include ten members, Mrs. Arthur Kemper, twin sister of the bride, and her husband will serve as matron of honor and best man. Mrs Vera Q'Rourke, charming Aushelm young lady and Miss Kathleen Owens of Santa Ana, will be the bride's maids. Fritz Kesper and Fred L. Hays will act as ushers. Dainty Miss Katherine Eddy as the flower girl and Louis Huntington as ring bearer will be members of the party. The wedding will be solemnized by Rev. R. W. Planette of Moore-park, Calif., long time friend of the family Hecha, So. Dakota, assisted by Rev. J. A. Gelssinger, Mrs. Luna Wellman Quarton will preside at the organ and will play Lohen-grin's wedding march. Vocal solos will be furnished by Mrs. H. Henderson of Long Beach.
