A. Ramage first saw the light of day about the same time. In honor of the occasion, their friends gave them a birthday surprise party last evening at the home of Mrs. Knott. With pink and white for the color combination, the rooms presented a real spring appearance. The centerpiece was a basket of spring blossoms in pink and white and their fragrance radiated the entire house. Bridal wreath and white Cherokee roses were other spring flowers used. Two huge birthday cakes, one containing a ring for matrimony, a dime for wealth and a thimble for single bliss. Mrs. Ramage established a comfortable future for herself by getting the dine, Magter Buddy Knott the ring and Master Billie Knott the thimble, all of whom were entirely happy over their "finds." The cakes were decorated and laced alike, with "sweet sixteen" candles each. Games and music were other entertainment features. Mrs. Knott was presented with a string of pearls and Mrs. Ramage with half dozen hand painted plates. An amusing feature of the party was that each honoree thought the party was to surprise the other and when it became apparent that the compliment was a double affair both were greatly surprised. As the party broke up a "joy ride" to Orange was proposed and loaded into the Knott Ford delivery car, the merrymakers took the spin. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Win. Bandits of a particularly wild and bold type still infest the mountainous regions of many parts of Europe and particularly Spain. Hiding deep in the mountains, these Spanish marauders sweep down upon the populace of small villages at intervals and their names instill fear. The experience of an American doughboy who impersonated such a bandit and not only got the law but the real bandit chasing him, surely should offer fascinating possibilities for thrilling situations. That is exactly what happened in "The Gentleman from America," which was written especially for the star by Raymond L. Schrock, scenario editor at Universal City. Opposite the star will be seen Louise Lorraine, while Carmen Phillips, Frank Leigh, Tom O'Brien, Burton Law and others play important roles.
