DAIRYMEN SUPPLY
MILK FOR SCHOOL
Miss Zora Huddleston, worker with the California Dairy Council, spoke on the nutritional value of milk for children at the Dairy Lunchroom at James Cafe, Santa Ana, Saturday. She went on to explain how milk had been dispensed in the San Diego Schools with satisfactory results, that wonderful gains were to be noted.
The dairymen responded by voting to supply two gallons of milk a day to the Lincoln kindergarten class for the remainder of the school term.
Dr. Geo. Hart, head of the division of Veterinary Science of the Univ. of Calif., came with an important message of the research work that the University is doing on control of Contagious Abortion in dairy animals. He advised that all abortions be considered due to Contagious Abortion and isolate the individual so as not to allow the spreading of the disease among the other animals of the herd. There is no positive way of identifying the Bacillus Abortus which is the bacillus causing the abortion, except by microscopic examination or staining the cultures.
Natural infection may take place externally or by eating contaminated hay where it has been allowed.

to become infected from aborting animals. Apparently the bacilli are much more frequently taken up from the digestive tract with the feed which has become contaminated. The possibility of such infection is proven by numerous successful artificial experiments as carried on the experimental herd at Berkeley. Infection may also be transmitted with milk.
For preventing the introduction of infection, newly purchased animals should be carefully observed and should be placed in the herd only on condition that the examination of the blood gives a negative result for re-action bodies. Without such an examination it is advisable to keep new animals isolated until parturition.

GOSPEL CHALLENGE SERMON SUBJECT
At the Methodist White Temple yesterday morning Dr. James Allen Gessinger spoke upon "The Challenge to the Gospel", his text being Mark 3:25: "This kind can come forth by nothing but prayer and fasting." He said in part:
"It is just as well that we face our present spiritual situation, the situation in which the gospel must live if it is to live at all, which it must conquer if it is not to fall utterly. We do not work in a vacuum nor do we work in the same world in which our fathers wrought. Nor do we work under easy circumstances. In fact conditions today make all Christian work up hill. We are all agreed on that. Some people are considerably discouraged about it all. I give no counsel of despair this morning. Rather I would suggest the enemies we must over come. Our situation is a challenge."
"Our present industrial order, our business world is built on the principle of self-interest. Each fellow is forced to make the best out he can. He must look after number one. We will take all the traffic will bear. It is true that this principle of selfishness is checked at many points by the spirit of humanitarian, spiritual restraints and the ideal of service. It is also true that many modern prophets are tolling to make the principle of service dominant. That is the purpose of such a little, but great book, as Tawney's "The Acquisitive Society." And this is the purpose of the social gospel preached from most pulpits today. But when all is said Business is still business. And as a result today we have the strong rolling in wealth while fifty per cent of our American homes have less than $1500 income annually. Life for millions today is Six days a week of living in this macclestrom and a seventh when they come up crying for air and rest and these people weared with the struggle of life the gospel must be preached."
"Our education has become completely secularized. Because of it, bpt that upsets all standards of morality, making the prostitute and rectors of the orchestra."
Next Tuesday Will be Road Improvement Day
Next Tuesday will be Road Improvement day in Orange co. There will be a hearing on Road Improvement District No. 19, and the proposed improvement between the end of North street and Richfield; the plains for District No. 20 will be filled; bids will be opened for the resurfacing of Westminster-bd., from Los Alamitos east for two and three quarters miles and the contract awarded; and bids will be opened for a concrete surfacing of Central avenue to the County Line.
The State continues to work on the new piece of road from Capitlanro to the San Diego-co. Line.
Romneya Drive, quarter of a mile between the State highway and the limits of Orangethorpe, is being resurveiled on instructions from Supervisor William M. Schumacher.
LEGION WOULD ADD 3 POSTS IN COUNTY
The seven posts of the American Legion in the county this week will start an active campaign to add three new posts, at Newport Beach, Garden Grove and Placentia-Yorba Linda. William P. Webb, Jr., of the County Council said today.
Another plan afoot is the organization of a county branch of the 40 Hommes, 8 Chevrolet, or social auxiliary of the council. A charter already has been applied for.
The name is taken from the legend on the box car in which the doughboys were transported in France and means 40 men, eight horses. The president similarly is called the Chef de Guerre.
A committee is at work planning for the annual summer picnic of all the posts, to be held perhaps at Orange County Park on a date yet to be fixed.

Life for millions today is Six days a week of living in this macclestrom and a seventh when they come up crying for air and rest and to these people weared with the struggle of life the gospel must be prenched.
"Our education has become completely secularized. Because of a polyglot religious opinion public education must leave the church, the gospel and even God to one side. That is for millions of American children God is an elective, God is not so much as thought of thru all the formative years, for our Protestant, Jewish and Catholic agencies for religious culture reach not more than a third of our American children.
"Then there is that agency or group of agencies we term the movies. I think I need not dwell upon the prostitution of childhood that goes on day and night seven days a week from this source of culture, if we may use such a good word in such circumstances, a source of culture in the hands of greed and unscrupulous peddlers. The movie is in it primarily for gate receipts. Some day our American mothers and fathers will wake up to see that it is an insane policy to turn their children over to such influences. Then Mapbe we shall take over this means of education and put it under the control of the state as we have our schools. Only just now keep in mind that here is an interpretation of life that is not only counter to the interpretation of Christian-

City bpt that upsets all standards of morality, making the prostitute and the lewd woman the heroes the libertine the hero and the home loving men and women the butt of all their cheap ridicule. It isn't censorship that we need it is a change of ownership. What is the matter with us that we care not that those harpies go on corrupting the youth of the land?
"Then that wholesome influence that from the beginning has been the hollowing of our American life, the home has become the bunk-house. Marriage has ceased to be a sacrament and has become a thinly disguised lanciviousness. Boys in knee breeches and girls who must still do their hair up in big-tails or crop it have taken over the management of what is left of the old institution of home. Home—it is largely a place where we get our mail and eat out of a main can.
"Recently the wages have been having a lot of fun at the expense of Mr. Bryan and his warnings about our colleges. But he has many facts on his side. The Centuray Magazine published a letter recently from a Mr. Wiggam in which facts were given about the teaching of a number of our greatest American colleges and universities. In many such places our college youth are taught that "God is a back number" that the mechanistic explanation of the universe is the only one science can recognize; "free will has been knocked into a cocked hat" and "immortality is a vain delusion". No wonder young men and women after four years or six year of this stuff come out into the world with a contempt for the religion of their fathers.
"In this age of propaganda the old fashioned newspaper has disappeared. You cannot trust the "news" about Russia, Germany, Japan or prohibition—not to mention more things that have become playthings of greed. Some time ago the papers of the land gave great space to an address made by Nicholas Murray Butler before the Old Rue: Ass'n in which he said that prohibition could not be enforced and that the law ought be made to suit the law breakers! Butler is president of the largest university in the United States. It might be said that his word had a right to a great hearing. Was that the reason for the play up? Not at all. Nor did the papers go on to say that within a few hours from the time that speech was made the lawyers of Ohio, be it said to their credit, rebuked Pres. Butler for taking advantage of his situation and completely repudiated his utterance.
"Now take these factors in our spiritual situation—an industrial order built upon selfishness; an educational system that leaves religion and God to one side; commercialized amusements without the suggestion of conscience or sense of decececy; our disintegrating home and the springs of truth and information poisoned at their source, and this is the situation in which the gospel must live. If we would complete our picture we must not neglect to say that the church has been invaded by this atmosphere of selfishness and worldliness until it is content to putter around on trivial issues and has not the courage to face its situation.
"I grant you that much might be done to lighten this picture. But I am anxious that we amy see the situation that we must conquer for Christ. And that is my point this morning: Not that we can do nothing. But that we can do everything. And must.
"As Jesus, our Lord, said, "This kind cometh out only by prayer and fasting." What we must do is to meet this world situation not in machinery not with man-made methods but in the power of the Holy Ghost and with prayer. Yes and with fasting, with such an abstention from the losses of the flesh and the lust of the eye and the pride of life that we may be fit to battle against the evils of today that confront us at every corner. It is no affair of slippers nor can we ice cream our generation to God. Only the gospel preached by a church filled with the purpose to make Christ supreme sun conquer."
