GALLERY ENTHUSES OVER SWEEPSTAKES Ten men rolled in the Class C individual sweepstakes on the Anaheim Allens last night with Larry Baker coming out on top with 1441 pins for right games. Tanner was second and McGregor third. Mac also shot high single game of 246. The leaders changed places so often they kept the large gallery on toes until the last ball was called. Investment Dept. Santa Ana, Orange or Huntington Beach ATTEMPT TO BRING LEAGUERS SUNDAY Manager Billy Knott of Anaheim Merchants, tonight at the meeting of the So. Cal. Baseball Managers Ass'n, will make an effort to arrange for a game here Sunday with Vernon or Los Angeles Pacific Coast league teams. Last year Anaheim gave Portland leaguers a stiff practice game here. With a better team this year, Manager Knott thinks either Los Angeles or Vernon would know they had been in a workout. Anaheim didn’t have the best team yesterday when it lost to Van Nuys, San Fernando valley champs. The local lineup was switched around considerable. With Ramage absent, McDowell was brot to first; Smith, a nervous but likely looking younger from Norwalk, was at Doty Bush’s place at second; Ray Bush was brot in from the field to third; G. Cainan was absent and Ruedy, Coffman and Schrott played the outer garden. After having the contest sewed up by the score of 4 to 0, Herb Salveson weakened and allowed the visitors to put over two markers in the seventh frame. The Van Nuys crowd followed this up in the next inning by sending home five more tallies, which sheved them ahead, 7 to 4. In the ninth of San Fernando Valleys champs came through with another run. It was in the last part of this inning that Billy Knott’s gang made one fast ebbing pennant chances. McDowell cracked out a four-base clout, bringing in two men ahead of him. McDowell’s sensational hit created quite a stir in the ranks of the paid admissions in view of the fact that Anaheim had now come up from behind and was only one run of tying the score. Pitcher Brown, who had relieved Las Taylor, arose to the occasion by retirin ghe side after McDowell’s circuit clout. Van Nuys— AB H. O. A. E.
