STARTING TOMORROW The Fastest 12 Hours That Ever Were Filmed! Flash around the clock with young Jack Curtis—dine with him, save a pretty girl with him, fight with him, see him marry the girl, find a million dollars, fight some more, and come back to find the girl gone. Folks, it's fast work—and it's great entertainment! You'll like it! Athletic Manager Billy Darnley signed the pair up yesterday. Douglas and Doty furnished the fans with a high powered bout here a couple of weeks ago. The decision was handed to the Phoenix but, in the minds of many, a draw would have been the proper verdict. Blackle Rice, shifty colored middleweight, meets clever Jack Moore of Los Angeles in a bout that ought to be exceptionally good. Rice is a fast hard-hitting lad and a good audience pleaser; Moore is now in Jack Dempsey's training camp working out with the big fellow every day at Tommy McParlands Gym in L. A. He should give Rice a whale of a battle. Tobby Montoya, the classy little Fullerton battler, is making his re-appearance at the local club after an absence of several weeks. He is to be pitted against Jake Poole of Covina. Poole is a rough, tough person and even tho he loses, Tobby will have known he has had a battle. Three snappy preliminaries between willing performers will round out what appears to be another bang-up program. ANAHEIM WINS TWO AT SANTA MONICA Coach Irene Jacques took her ban-tam squad to Santa Monica Saturday to meet the lightweights. The Santa Monica coach got the idea that they were pitted against Anaheim's second team, so she put in some tall, speedy players who towered like giantsesses above the Anaheim mudgets. At the end of the first third of playing Santa Monica was ten points in the lead. Anaheim girls rallied in the second period when two second team players were substituted. At the last third, the local girls started out to win that game or bust. Santa Monica found her girls loosing ground and put in some of her first team player and as a result the final score was 35 to 35. Neither team could claim the championship so the two coaches decided on another five minute spasm, enabling Anaheim to claim the title. Rosie Labourdette was the outstanding star of the fray. Other players were Frances Nelson, Marie Hoch, Grace Holsworth and Alice Longeval. The guards were Charlee Smith, Edith John, Florence Finley, Frances Murch, Catherine Shea, Arline Pleper, Madaline Toussieu. HEFFRON NOSES OUT McGAUGH IN MATCH Eight of Anaheim's best bowlers shot in the special ten-game match on the local alleys last night, Heffron taking first place with 1921 pins; McGaugh second, 1910; Karam, third, 1858, and Gordon, 1822. The match was close all the way with McGaugh leading until the ninth game when Mac had his low game and put Heffron in a position to win when he shot 213 in the final game. McGaugh's 2244 was high single game one pin better than Karam's best. Anaheim's entry in the Mercantile League will meet the Oaks No. 1 team on the local alleys tonight. In an announcement today from the offices at 114 No. Lemon-st, it was stated: "We operate under state supervision. Loans are made only on first reality security. HERBERT RAWLINSON AT UNITED THEATER If you met and married a million dollars in five hours and then lost it, what would you do? Suppose also that you might have been suspected of crime during those five hours, and had been the target of a gun of crooks. Those are just a few of the things that befell John D. Curtis on the first night of his return from five years spent in China. Between the hours of sunset and sunrise he found more real romance and adventure than in all those five years of travel. "Romance and mystery!" What intrigue lies in those words. There are stories and stories, and all have their day, but the appeal of the red-blooded adventure story is perceptual. That is the appeal which is carried in "One Wonderful Night," the Universal film play, which brings Herbert Rawlinson to the United theater tomorrow. The score MABEE STARTS ON RIGOROUS COURSE OF MAT TRAINING Roy Mabee yesterday started upon a rigorous course of training for his match here about the middle of the month with Johnny Meyers, middle-weight wrestling champion and inventor of the famous "stopper hold." The "stopper hold," by the way, is a wrist lock applied to the foot and leg. In it once, there's no getting out. About all the vanquished mat artists remember is the tear producing pain that accompanies it. The only way to deal with a "stopper hold" is not to get into it. Mabee worked out for an hour yesterday at Elks club. Hubert Wilson of Pennsylvania, Al Sparkes and Vic Baden of Anaheim are working out with him. Tomorrow evening Mabee will get a fine workout at Rivedside with "Tag" Ageson, a middlewesterner. ANAHEIM HI GIRLS KEEP SO. CAL. TITLE Anaheim Hi retains the right to the So. The Bay City champs were rather put out over the defeat as this is their first loss in two years. Every girl on the local team was in tip top shape and played to the best of her ability. The affair was by no means a walkaway as the Santa Monica girls put up a wonderful fight. Coach Jacques' champs proved too speedy for their opponents. Viola Lensing played forward brilliant work of the guards, Esther Hile, Irma Young and Mae Requarth deserves considerable mention. Anaheim girls will defend their title Saturday when they meet the Hemet girls at Riverside Hi court. Sargum Sproutings By Sargum Sprout Out west of Anaheim, where the song birds and the droning of bees are incurrant and the air is laden with the sweet scent of orange bloom and freshly tilled land, there is a man, spreading the paint of war and doing the war dance. He has been so busy tending to his orange grove and listening to the songs of spring that he failed to hear the challenge of one of his race until that one blinted that Roy Mabea had a yellow streak and was afraid to wrestle a man smaller than himself. Roy is up in arms and wants to know where Johnny Meyers "gets that stuff." "I know Johnny is a great little man," says Roy, "but if he thinks I am afraid of him he has another think coming. And, say, he can bring on that famous 'stopper hold' and anything else he has in stock. If he lands me well and good, but by George, you tell him I am not afraid of him. I have just been too busy to pay any attention to him." These are your answer, Mr. Meyers, and the wrestling fans of Anaheim are tickled stiff at the prospect of a battle between "Our Roy" and the middleweight king. This match will be more spectacular than the Mabea-Santel title go, as Johnny Meyers is a speedster and Ad Santel is a lumber truck. But, is Johnny's speed enough to enable him to clamp on his deadly "stopper" on our farmer lad? We shall see what we shall see. Anyway, Roy Mabea is game and Johnny Meyers will find that fact to be true before the month is out. Why, Strangler Lewis could not come in here and growl at Roy Mabea and get away without a fight. Then let him come to America, the world's middleweight crown could well decorate the brow of either Gene Tunney or Harry Greb.
