FREQUENT SHOWERS OF OIL AT SIGNAL (With Oil Operators)
It seems that Signal Hill has to take a shower of oil every once in a while. This week the Petroleum Midway contributed the shower when Ryder No. 1 broke loose and threatened to cover everything up with the liquid wealth. Ryder No. 1 has been in quiet 4000 barrel producer for several months. Late Sunday night the packing blew out of the casing head and packing clamps and the well ran well for a time. Almost superhuman efforts were exerted in order to get the well under control. The excess oil was stored in nearby sumps, and there was not sufficient storage available to take care of all the oil, quite a quantity ran away in a ditch along the roadside. The Petroleum Midway management have the great pusher under complete control and it is not believed that adjoining properties were damaged to any great extent.
The Fred B. Foster company now have the deepest test well drilling on Signal Hill. No. 38 formerly known as the Barry week is now making hole at close to 5000 feet. Commercial production was passed thru in the deep well at 4300 and 4400 and should a lower sand not be found it will be possible to come back and bring in a well in the upper zone.
The General Petroleum's deep test well of the southeast side of the Hill made a demonstration when the cement was drilled out of the 6 1-4 at 4920. The well started to flow and for a while it looked like it was going to come in without the necessary preparations. The showing the Blixby well has made assures a producer.
The Edens-Wallace Oil Company now have their first producer. At 3800 feet the Orange County Drilling Company completed and put on production at 700 barrel well for the organization. R. W. Edens head of
PLANNING TO BRING U. S. PARTY HERE
Orange-co harbor will be visited by more than 25 U. S. senators and congressmen this summer it plans announced today by C. A. Bosworth of the American Historical Revue and Motion Picture Industrial Exposition are carried out.
A special train costing $40,000 will bring distinguished guests from Washington to the exposition at Exposition Park, Los Angeles, in July. It is possible that the party may be increased to 100 persons through the action of various civic organizations of So. Calif., according to Mr. Bosworth.
Orange-co's chances of securing an appropriation from the federal government for the development of Newport Harbor would be materially brightened through a visit of the legislative party, it is pointed out.
Plans for celebration of Orange-co Day were outlined to supervisors yesterday afternoon by Mr. Bosworth.
The county will exhibit floats and exhibits in the exposition, it was decided.
Supervisors also will select three of the county's fairest as candidates for queen of the exposition, to reign Orange-co. Day. One candidate each from central, northern and southern Orange-co, will be selected by the supervisors as official nominees.
Virtually every city in Orange-co will be represented by exhibits at the exposition, it is announced. Committees from several of the chambers of commerce in the county now are working on the question of entries, and it is expected a committee from the Associated Chambers of Commerce will be appointed at the monthly meeting to be held in Bretonight.

The Edens-Wallace Oil Company now have their first producer. At 3800 feet the Orange County Drilling Company completed and put on production at 700 barrel well for the organization. R. W. Edens head of the Orange County Drilling Company has associated himself with the Wallace Brothers and together these people plan extensive developments at Long Beach. Edens made his debut at Long Beach early in the field's development with the bringing in of two big wells for the Transport Oil Co.
Doubts are disappearing fast as to the outcome of the Henderson Petroleum Syndicates Mills well. At 4300 a nice showing of oil was found and as the drilling goes deeper the showings are increasing in quantity. Up to and including 4000 feet the Mills well looked rather doubtful.
Two of the wells drilled by Carl Maier and moving picture magnates will have to be redrilled and deepened. Brayton No. 1 at 3895 had failed to make much of a producer, and Carl Maier 1-A at 3844 has declined to small production. It is the intention of the Maier Interests to deepen both wells and carry them into the lower deep sand zone.
With the bringing in of another big well on the Alamitos property the discovery property of the Signal Hill field the lease looks like one of the greatest bill properties on the Hill. The Shell company redrilled and deepened Alamitos 4-A to 4427 feet and realized a 5000 barrel well producing 28 gravity off. Alamitos No. 1 was redrilled to the deep sand and was completed a couple of weeks ago with an initial production of 4000 barrels. The Shell company now has forty wells producing in the Signal Hill field and has a daily output to excess of 40,000 barrels.

CELEBRATE GUSHER WEEK AT SANTA FE With Oil Operators
Guesher week was celebrated at Santa Fe Springs last week. Four of the leading companies in the field brought in wells ranging from five to seven thousand barrels. All the big producers are high gravity wells, producing 35 gravity, clean oil. The week's big production increase was started by George F. Getty when he completed his No. 2A at 4473 and brought in a 6000 barrel well. The Getty well is a great producer, making 35 gravity oil, and has some 400 feet of the famous Meyer sand to draw upon for its production.
The Petroleum Midway is the recipient of congratulations for having made one of the big producers of the Springs field out of the famous mystery well, Fox No. 1. Fox No. 1, six months ago was given a production try-out in the Fox sand at 3809 feet but failed to make anything like commercial production. Continued cleaning out and the exhaustion of all efforts known to make a well produce did not change the status of the well. Redrilling and deepening to 4512 and getting it into the Meyer sand resulted in a 5000 barrel well. The Petroleum Midway's Baldwin well the greatest producer the Springs field has had to-date has not declined very much from its initial output. The great Baldwin well continues to be a consistent producer at 7000 barrels. The gravity of the Baldwin well has advanced another point; it is now 36.7 highest in the field.
The Superior Oil Co., under the direction of W. M. Keck completed a masterpiece of the oil man's art when Wardman No. 2 was brought in a 6700 barrel well. The big Wardman well completed at 4440 in the Meyer sand is making 35 gravity production. Wardman No. 1 formerly a producer at 4050 feet is being drilled and will go into the Meyer sand the home of all the big wells So. Calif.
The Standard Oil Co. scored first place for the Springs field big production when it completed on the Koontz property a 6875 barrel well. The big Standard producer a product of the wizard and genius of gusher high gravity wells, Ralph Winger was completed at 4500 feet. The Standard's north line test well Brownrigg-Keller No. 2 continues drilling and now at 5300 is the deepest test well ever drilled in the Santa Fe area.

PLACENTIA GARAGES MECCA FOR THIEVES
PLACENTIA, Feb. 26.—(Spl.)—Thieves have been active here as well as in larger communities of late. A number of garages have been entered and articles ranging in value from a few dollars to many dollars have been taken. Saturday night some helped himself to a sixteen dollar spot light from Herbert Foss' car which was standing in front of his house.
Ross Warner has sold his spacious home on the corner of Walnut and Center-sta to Andrew Ipsen for a consideration of $3600. Mr. Warner owns considerable property in Brea where he will make his home in the near future. Their many friends will be sorry to see this young couple leave our community.
Christensen and Rideout are erecting another house on Olive-st. This will be on a par with the rest of their houses and everyone knows how well built and substantial these are.
A Dodge touring car belonging to J. A. Craig of Riverside has to be towed to the Mission Garage on last Sunday afternoon after being hit by an Oakland touring car driven by Ben Middleswart of Uplands. The Middleswart family had been spending the day with Mrs. Middleswart's mother, Mrs. Mary Raffi and were starting home on Meirose-ave., when the driver of the car, to miss some bumps, cut the corner at the intersection of Chapman-ave and turned west just in time to tear the front left wheel from the Riverside car with its left rear wheel.
The cries of the three Middleswart children riding in the back seat alarmed the neighbors when the noise of the crash had subsided and they rushed out expecting to find some one badly injured. No one was injured and excepting the Dodge everyone proceeded on their way. Mr. Craig taking the Santa Fe to River-side.
Big Crowd Listens to Sermon on Hypocrites
Evangelist Vawter has been preaching great sermons. The one last night attracted considerable attention as was manifested by the large attendance.
The sermon subject was "Hypocrites, in and out of the church." The evangelist said that when inviting men to accept Christ many excuse are given, although there is only one reason for not accepting Him and that is to not believe that Christ is the Son of God. One of the favorite excuses given is "There are hypocrites in the church."
"That is true sometimes," said the evangelist, but the man who makes that excuse either lies about it or if a fool for he is planning to spend eternity where all hypocrites are."
The evangelist then gave a recipe for getting rid of hypocrites: "Accept Christ, meet the conditions required and when life's work is done you never need to see another hypocrite again save on one occasion and that is at the judgment bar of Christ. Then they will be banished but if you do not accept Christ you will spend eternity with that gang. For Christ condemns hypocrites whether they are in or out of the church.
Special music was announced for tonight and another interesting service.

HEAVY LOSSES BY INCORRECT PRUNING
(By H.E. Wehlberg, Farm Advisor)
Indecriminate pruning practices in the citrus groves have cost the citrus industry thousands of dollars in Orange-co. It is safe to say that approximately a million dollars have been lost during the past decade from undue heavy pruning, both in oranges and lemons.
The common practice of many growers and commercial pruners is heavy slashing of wood, which ordinarily results in disturbing the equilibrium of the trees growth and forces new wood growth. The ultimate purpose of pruning has thus been defeated. Innumerable instances have been noted by the Agricultural Extension Service where heavy pruning has been done as a seasonal practice, causing excessive sucker growth in the tops of trees. To make matters worse this condition has been met by another heavy pruning the following season. Another thick bushy growth is the result.
In some cases this method has been followed in good faith, but unfortunately many pruners have followed the practice for the sake of a big showing. To some a heavy pruning looks like a more complete job.
The recent series of pruning demonstrations held at Tustin, Garden Grove, Anaheim, La Habra, Yorba Linda and El Modena, crystallized the need for standardization of pruning methods. Many of the several hundred growers attending this series were emphatic in their requests for more information on tree physiology and relation of fruit production to pruning. These requests have been filed by the Farm Advisor and will be submitted to the Citrus Committee of the Farm Bureau for action. It is hoped that a school for professional pruning and growers integrated...

S. B. KRAEMER WILL SELL BLUE STREAK
S. B. Kraemer of the Kraemer service station, at 301 N. Los Angeles-st., Anaheim, has arranged with Gardner & Hotz county distributors of Mutual Refining Company gas, to sell their gasoline, "Blue Streak."
"It is interesting to note that the gasoline which we have given the name 'Blue Streak' is refined by an entirely new process which is an improvement over the general way of refining" said J. L. Castor, president of the company.
"This method of refining has been developed by John Knudsen through years of experience as refining superintendent of one of California's largest oil companies.
"By our method, the gasoline produced has even gravity throughout any given volume, and for this reason, the flow of gas to the engine is always constant and does not come over in spurts or in an uneven manner. The motorist will find that 'Blue Streak' gasoline gives him easier starting, quicker pickup and longer mileage.

While the blizzard blizzed, many of the townspeople, with their feet cocked up about the lignite fire in the hotel lobby, greatly enjoyed the concerts from the powerful sending stations in Los Angeles.
