Why should the modern girl spend half of her budget and a third of her time on clothes? For whom does woman dress anyway? Dated, Anaheim, California, this 34th day of February, 1923. EDWARD R. MERRITT, City Clerk of the City of Anaheim Launched Feb. 24, 26, 27, 28 March 12, 13, 15, 16, 17. N.B. A.M. and more mature lands scripted by the following. Boundary lines-to-wit: Beginning at the Southeast corner of said land and extending ONE IT TO WORK OUR BEST" Is it necessary for women to be well-dressed? Why should the modern girl spend half her budget and a third of her time on clothes? For whom woman dress anyway? All these questions—so intensely interesting to the woman of today—are answered by the winsome Coleen Moore, who frankly states that whatever success may be here is partly due to the fact that she has given thought and time to the subject and that she considers every moment and every dollar that she has invested in clothes well spent. "We must dress to please ourselves and give pleasure to others," says the vivacious young actress who has featured role in the Goldwin picture "Broken Chains", which is coming to the California theater tomorrow for two days. "We owe our best to ourselves and the world and we can only look our best by giving the subject of clothes consideration. Clothes are an investment and they need not be so frightfully expensive if one uses judgment when buying them. "It is fatal to try to keep up with the fashion tendency—if skirts are long, let out the hems and if they are short, turn them up—but to follow the extreme modes is a foolish expenditure of time and money." "By buying a few good things one may always look wait. To buy cheap and many of them. Is an indication that one has been sold one's clothes and not that one has given any thought to them. "In my personal wardrobe I have made the following chart to guide me in the purchase of new clothes: For spring and summer: Two hats one for sport wear and one for dress; two sports costumes—sweaters and skirts or a sports dress of light wool with a wrap; one afternoon gown and one summer evening gown—one of these may be lingerie or light silk; one street suit and one street dress; shoes for each costume. This may seem rather extravagant budget but of course in my work it is necessary to be as far as possible well dressed and I use this as a general guide and frequently have my last year's things made over or worn them as they were. "I am sure I do not spend as much for clothes as many girls, but I have the proper thing for each occasion—and that is an absolute necessity for the well dressed woman." FOOLS BECOME ANGELS The tendency of some automobile drivers to unnecessarily place their lives in danger at grade crossings in rather strikingly suggested by a large sign suspended over the county highway near Olympia. Washington. This sign, which is in large letters and well illuminated at night, is on two poles near a dangerous crossing and reads: "Fools Become Angels." A strip of land in the Southeast corner of the South Fourteen and 46-100 (14.46) acres of the North Twenty-nine and 14-100 (29.14) acres of the West one-half (W.1/2) of the North-west corner of said Section in, and extending thence East 1321.6 feet; thence at right angles West 10 feet; thence at right lines West 15 feet to the West line of said Section Twenty; thence all right angles North along the West line of said Section. 10 feet to the point of beginning, said enclosure or right of way being for road purposes.
