EXPECT BIG CROWD FOR SUNDAY SHOOT A big crowd is expected out for the Sunday morning shoot of the Orange County Gun Club on Brookhurst avenue. Benches have been provided for shooters and spectators and there will be something to shoot for besides fun, promises Secretary Ben Christleib. The letter announces that he has already taken steps to have the new Orange County Gun Club recognized by the American Trap Shooters Association, so that the club will be eligible to hold registered shoots. The secretary of the Vernon Gun club has agreed to close that club the fourth Sunday of each month to bring the Vernon members here. This should be a big drawing card for the local club. “Pride of Palomar” Has Popular Theme A virile story of California with a powerful theme is “The Pride of Palomar” a Cosmopolitan production from Peter B. Kyne’s noted novel of the same name, which is now showing at the California theater. The leading roles are portrayed by Marjorie Daw and Forrest Stanley. The story tells of the struggle of a World War veteran against crushing interests in his native state, the fight centering around the possession of the family ranch, which he finds on his return from overseas, has all but fallen into the hands of the enemy. Making the story highly dramatic is the fact that the father of the girl whom the young man loves heads the opposing interests. There is also the great problem for the girl deciding where she ought to stand in the fight between her father and her sweetheart. She loves both, and her novel way of meeting the situation is thrilling. The picture has an all star cast and has been well produced by Frank Borzage, who directed “Humoresque” Forrest Stanley and Marjorie Daw have the featured roles, and other important parts are portrayed by Bridgeman. HUNTINGTON BEACH LOSES TO LINCOLN Coach “Feet” Walker’s Huntington Beach track squad was downed by Coach Tommy Davis’ Lincoln Hi team yesterday 65 to 48. Coach Walker relied on his three stars, Nash, Nicholas and Bleckmore to take the meet. These three took 45 points. Charles Wagner of the Railsplitter’s team, hurled the platter 116 feet 1-2 inches, setting a new record. Nicholas executed some brilliant work in the 220 low hurdles and also pole valunt. Milton Nash, one of the truly stars, was high man for the Beach team, capturing three first places. Huntington Beach points: Nash scored first in 100 yd. dash, 440 yd. dash and broad jump. Nicholas placed first in high hurdles, also low hurdles, Nicholas and Bleckmore tied for first in the pole vault. Nicholas tied for first in high jump, and placed third in the broad jump. Bleckmore took second in high hurdles, second in shot put and third in high jump. Hoxle of the Beach squad copped second in the 880 dash. Lincoln Hi won the relay. PLAN YOUR ST. "The GALLOPING KID" IS GIBSON'S LATEST When Hoot Gibson enlisted in the U.S. Army for the period of the war the recruiting officers knowing his hazardous career at Universal City assigned his for duty in the Tank Corps. Breaking in whippet tanks proved no more difficult for the Universal star than busting buckling bronchos. In his latest Universal starring vehicle, "The Galloping Kid", directed by Nat Ross, which comes to the United theater tomorrow Gibson gives an exhibition of the brand of horsemanship that won for him the studded championship belt at Pendleton, Oregon, in 1912. The story is one of the William H. Hamby "Mistat" series that met with much popularity in a national magazine. Gibson, in the title role, portrays a wandering cowboy who drifts from one ranch to another, never being evicted before putting a meal under his belt and replentishing his supply of smokes. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Spraker, from Huntington Park, formerly of Cypress, were calling upon old friends yesterday. They enjoy getting back among Cypress folk frequently.
