BRIDE AND GROOM ENTERTAIN WITH MIDNIGHT FEAST
M. AND MRS. DE WITT REESE (nee Marguerite Eves) who were married last week, entertained a few of their friends Saturday evening in their home in the Roberts apartments.
A supper was served about midnight, which followed the second show of the California theatre, where Mrs. Reese is organist. The table was lovely with its bridal appointments. Suspended from the electroliner was a basket of fragrant white narcissus and hyacinths, and leading to places about the room, white streamers were draped. A sunning kewpie bride and groom held the center of the festal board, and plate cards, tiny brides, on which the name of each guest was written backward. A big basket of sweet peas, fern and smilax also adorned the table.
Conspicuous in the room was the great bouquet of carnations and roses, a gift of the California management and the employes. They also presented the happy young couple wilt a set of silver. Other gifts were presented by the guests of the evening. Covers were laid for Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Potter, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Ramage, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Saville, Mrs. P. D. Sharp, of Hokan, Wash.; Mrs. Ida Eves, of Venice; and the Messrs Carl Miller, Al Pape and Al Barber, and Mr. and Mrs. De Witt Reese, all of whom were presented with white caps to wear during supper.

"I am not accustomed to the use of language of culeogy; I have never studied the art of paying compliments to women; but I must say, that if all that has been said by orators and poets since the creation of the world in praise of women were applied to the women of America, it would not do them justice for their conduct during this (Civil) war. I will close by saying 'God bless the women of America.'"

BARTHELMESS’ SHIP
THOT RUM-RUNNER
While taking scenes for “Fury”, his new production, Richard Barthelmess had an opportunity of seeing first-hand the operations of Uncle Sam’s prohibition navy and incidentally narrowly escaped arrest as a rum-runner himself, in spite of the fact that the four master on which he was sailing was as dry inside as it was underneath.
Out past the three-mile limit, sailing with a crew of thirty-two men and his company on an old-timer which was admittedly disguised, but not for the purposes of running contraband, the young star noticed a lively little craft running them down at the same time the watch was called out the information, a gun was trained on them. But a swift breeze was blowing, and the captain let out all sails and started flight, with the craft in close pursuit.
Just as they were about to be overtaken, another boat hove into sight, so obviously a rum-runner that Cypress Club Tuesday

the very breeze seemed to carry the scene of the contraband. The prohibition runner abandoned the chase for the unknown craft and bore down on the rum runner, firing a shot across her bows. Her capture meant the acquisition of several thousand dollars’ worth of liquor by the dry navy. “Fury” is now showing to packed houses at the California.
