Starting Tomorrow “THE CHALLENGE” Six reel special with an all star cast, headed by beautiful Dolores Cassenelli and “Poptuttles Grasswidow” with Dan Mason of “Toonerville Trolley” fame Tonight “The JILT” with Matt Moore, Marquerite de la Motte and Ralph Graves UNITED Theatre Anaheim The time is coming when the huge quantities of water which run to waste in California, after heavy rains and snows, will be conserved. This great surplus of water, if impounded, would be of tremendous material value to the state. Opportunity! DO YOU KNOW, THAT MILLIONS OF DOLLARS ARE BEING SPENT ADVERTISING CALIFORNIA’S WONDERFUL CLIMATE? GENTLEMEN RIDERS FROM ALL SECTIONS IN “THE HOTTENTOT” Crack polo players and gentlemen riders from all sections of the country appear in Thomas H. Ince’s screen-version of “The Hottentot” in the most exciting steepiechase ever filmed. In search of a new thrill, a number of devolees of equitation who happened to be in Los Angeles when this picture was made accepted the invitation to appear in his production of William Collier’s famous racing comedy. They made one condition. Their identity must not be disclosed. Some of them had domestic reasons for wishing their temporary address kept dark. All of them modestly declared that they wouldn’t have time to answer the stacks of letter from all the film fans who were sure to fall for their riding (and the riders!) They were simple/“chawmed” to assist you know, but they simply couldn’t be bered with filmed correspondence. The riders, one and all, though rank amateurs at the movie game, were no slouches when it came to sitting a horse. The steepiechase is the climax of the clever story of Sam Harrington, a yachtman and all-around sportsman who is afraid of just one thing—horses. Sam is misaken for a famous turfssion of the same name and doesn’t want to “feet” up because he has fallen in love with a girl who is mad about horses and horse-racing. His efforts to keep off a horse’s back and out from under frogs lead to a succession of absurd situations that would make a nummy laugh. He finally takes the bit in his teeth rides “The Hottentot”; to victory, loses his fear and wins the girl. The picture will be shown at the California Theater starting tomorrow.
