FRIENDS GREET,
MRS. HEYING AT,
DAUGHTER'S HOME.
MRS. HENRY HEYING was one surprised lady when she entered the C. D. Harrison home yesterday afternoon and found a large party of friends who greeted her with "surprise."
A friend had called or Mrs. Heying to take her to Long Beach and then suggested that they call for Mrs. Harrison, her daughter, Mrs. Harrison called to her mother to come into the house and when she arrived saw her many friends.
Five hundred was the diversion of the afternoon hours. Prizes were awarded to Mrs. Black, first; Mrs. Mauer, second; Mrs. Bonnat, congregation.
Refreshments were served about 4:30 o'clock from the dining table. The decorations were most elaborate. An unusually attractive centerpiece was the flower bowl that was shaped as a swan. Dainty seasonable blossoms filled the bowl. Streamers were attached from the bowl to the covers. Place cards and dainty favors marked places for fourteen.
A miniature kewpie doll holding a pink and white booklet served as place card. On the outside a question was inscribed and the answer was found inside.
Two birthday cakes and other desserts were portions of the menu.

Marriage Lincenses
Tells Secret of Wedding
A secret is out in which many Anaheen friends of the young lady principal will be interested—that of the marriage on January 7 of Miss Lela Ruth Sebastain, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Sebastain, of Santa Ana, and sister of J. P. and W. J. Sebastain of Anaheim. Mr. Julian Matthews, also of Santa Ana, is the happy groom.
The marriage date celebrated the thirty-second wedding anniversary of the bride's parents, which occurred in Tennessee, in 1891, and the minister who officiated at that union, Rev. E. K. Bransford, also performed the ceremony for the daughter, at his home in Los Angeles.
After the bride and groom returned to their home town each continued upon the daily duties. It had been their intention to have an elaborate wedding but the home in which they will reside was not quite finished, so such plans were abandoned.
After Feb. 15 Mr. and Mrs. Mathews will be at home to their friends in the new bungalow, 813 North Ross-st.
Mrs. Mathews has often visited with the families of her brothers here and has a wide acquaintance, all of whom join her home circle in best wishes and congratulations.

EBELL LADIES TAKE JOURNEY TO BRITISH ISLES
In a very cleverly arranged manner through the good offices of Mrs. H. C. Downs, assisted by the president, Mrs. Nellie E. Terry, the Ebell club ladles took a trip to the British Isles yesterday afternoon. A full membership embarked upon the British Inner Metagama, which sailed the Union Jack, of course, but in deference to the passenger list, all Americans, the U.S. flag also was prominently displayed.
The ladies knew there was something unusual coming up for the regular meeting yesterday and all were alive with curiosity. Imagine their pleasure when Mrs. Terry in an original prologue, produced rue miniature ship, and invited the club to go aboard.
As the ship sailed Mrs. Walter Ross sang Golsti's "Goodbye". When well out to sea, Miss Kate Rea, as pursuer, presented each lady with her "steamer letter," which, as opened, proved to be a pretty valentine. Upon landing at Glascoff, Scotland, Mrs. Ross sang, "My Bairnle," by Kate Bannah.
Mrs. Downs then read their intensely interesting paper, data for which he had secured upon a recent visit to the Isles. The novel entertainment was a delight to all the members and one of the most pleasant afternoon of the club year passed.
The program opened with the creed, followed by singing the club song, a patriotic song and a folk song. The ladies parlor at the Elks club was decorated with a huge silk American flag, and many smaller ones.
The business hour brought out a very interesting proposition which was submitted by William T. Wallop. He offers the ladies ten per cent of the sales from ten of his lots in the
