SANTA FE SPRINGS
OVER 95,000-MARK
(With G. Operators)
Santa Fe Springs production has passed the 95,000 mark and is on a steady increase. Fortunately this new field is the most favored in that the recent price cut did not hit the high gravity production as hard as the lower grades. The average production of the field runs close to 32 gravel and this oil brings better than a dollar a barr.1. The feature of the springs field today is the fevish haste to get wells into the deep Meyer sand, get the big high gravity production and get as much as possible of it now.
The Bell View Oil company is now a producer at the Springs. Just exactly a year ago this company spudded in and drilled what at that time was the fourth well in the field. The rapid progress of the Bell View was halted by a bad fishing job that compelled the loss of the hole. No.1-A was started about four months ago and completed late last week a 2000 barrel well. The Bell View's producer was completed at 3910 feet, and is making the usual 31 gravity oil. It is the intention of the Bell View Oil company to put a deep sand Meyer well on the Grohas 1-A property letting the first well take care of the Bell sand production.
Approximately a 1000 acres is what the Elliott Petroleum Co. has proved up for the west side of the Santa Fe Springs field and relieved a lot of anxiety. At 4336 the Elliot stopped drilling, came back and set a string of 6-1-4 casing a water string at 4316. This well really only a few feet in the sand is flowing thru an 6-1-4 water string and making 800 barrels of oil that is running very close to 36 gravity. At the time the Elliott Petroleum Company started drilling, its location was regarded as of a rather wild cat nature and the drilling and development was watched with interest. It is believed the Elliott Core Drill is responsible for the well as there were

PROVED UP FOR THE WEST SIDE OF THE Santa Fe Springs field and relieved a lot of anxiety. At 4336 the Elliot stopped drilling, came back and set a string of 6-1-4 casing a water string at 4316. This well really only a few feet in the sand is flowing through an 6-1-4 water string and making 800 barrels of oil that is running very close to 56 6gravity. At the time the Elliott Petroleum Company started drilling, its location was regarded as of a rather wild nature and the drilling and development was watched with interest. It is believed the Elliott Core Drill is responsible for the well as there were no showings of any importance in the ditch as the drilling proceeded. The core revealed the sand.
Geo. F. Getty was the Springs largest individual producer for the past week. Mr. Getty completed a 4000 barrel well at No. 5. Drilling his record well to 4610 and completing it in the Meyer sand at 33 gravity clean oil producer resulted.
C. C. Julian will have something to show for his work at the Springs in a few days. Two wells No. 1 and No. 4 have set pipe preparatory to going into the deep sand. No. 1 set 6-1-4 at 4283, and No. 2 the 8-1-4 at 4460. Both wells looked good and there seems to be little doubt as to their making nice producers as soon as the cement plugs are drilled out and the sand pierced. Julian No. 2 is a steady and consistent producer at 1200 barrels.
The Shaff-Noble Oil Syndicate failed to get a commercial producer in the Bell sand in its No. 1A at 3538 and will deepen. The Schaff-Noble well shows that in one part of the field at least the Bell sand has been pretty well exhausted.
That the north line of the field is dipping sharply is revealed by the Standard Oil Company's Brownrigg-Kellar No. 2 has passed the 5050 mark and has not found the production indications that made No. 1 a nice well at 4762. Brownrigg-Kellar No. 2 is only a location away to the north and east, and if this had dipped 300 feet it would seem that the northline is practically fixed now.
On the Matter property the Petroleum Midway brought in its first producer a 1300 barrel well. Matter 2-1 as it is designated shut off water with the 8-1-4 at 383. The cement was drilled out and the well started to flow. The well made such a nice showing that it was decided to allow the flow to continue. The well is flowing thru the tubing and is making 29 gravity oil.

K. K. K. HONEYCOMBS NATIONAL CAPITOL
Fourteen United States Senators and Congressmen, thirty Washington court pendants and numerous government officials are members of the Ku Klux Klan, according to the revelations of Norman Hapgood in the February issue of hearst's International magazine, explaining how Washington is honeycombed by the Klan.
Declaring that the Ku Klux Klan aims to obstruct to courts, juries, legislatures and governors; that its victories in the November election have made it still more confident of this control; that it is already issuing orders on points religious and racial, Mr. Hapgood presents actual evidence in the form of confidential letters, secret messages, telegrams and other written material, some code, which describes Ku Klux methods of controlling the administration of Justice, or meteing out punishment, and of obtaining information.
Mr. Hapgood cites an instance in DeWitt County, Texas, where the grand jury called to investigate the Klan itself, was composed of ten Klansmien and two other members says Mr. Hapgood, the report it rendered was more than an exoneration. It was a culogy. Another instance is at Asheville, N.C. where an organizer and Kleagle of a local Ku Klux Klan was indicated on various charges. His attorneys prevented the case from appearing before a judge known to be unfavorable to the Klan and brought it up before a judge who is a Klansman.
"Hundred Per Cent American Judge," writes Mr. Hapgood, "means a judge favorable to the Klan."
When there are acts of violence and other violations of law committed by masked men, frequently in the uniform of the Klan, the officers of that organization always

instance is at Asheville, N.C., where an organizer and Kleagle of a local Ku Klux Klan was indicated on various charges. His attorneys prevented the case from appearing before a judge known to be unfavorable to the Klan and brought it up before a judge who is a Klansman.
"Hundred Per Cent American Judge," writes Mr. Hapgood, "means a judge favorable to the Klan."
"When there are acts of violence and other violations of law committed by masked men, frequently in the uniform of the Klan, the officers of that organization always say that these crimes were not committed by that organization," says Mr. Hapgood.
"What really happens is that a few chosen men act, the Klan as a whole having no details."
A system of spies who watch the mails and telegraph communications, provides much of the Klan's inside information.
There are many Klansmen in the Post Office department throughout the United States as well as in Washington. Some time ago, there were sixty-five in the Post Office Portland, Oregon. The postmaster reported the situation to the Postmaster General. There have been numerous complaints against the members of the Klan in the Post Office to the effect that they were tampering with the mail of citizens who were not Klansmen.
In October, a Klan was formed in Washington, which it is claimed, now means thirty well known newspapers. Fourteen United States senators and representatives, high officers of the army and navy and other officials of national reputation. But inasmuch as there was little attempt at secrecy in forming this branch, Mr. Hapgood ventures the opinion that this effort is possibly not as serious as the more secret ones.
Imperial Klalliff Clarke, he declares, claims to have a Klansman in the United Secret Secret Service at Washington, D.C., who keeps him advised whenever that branch of the Federal Government does anything with the Ku Klux Klan. Among the letters presented by Mr. Hapgood to substantiate his statements is one which contains the Klan injunction to "destroy this letter by fire." Others contain Klan formula and code words such as 'itsub' which means 'In the Sacred and Unfailing Bond' and AKAI, to denote 'I Am A Klansman.'
