WILKINS DROPPED
AFTER GREAT FIGHT
Paul Wilkins, classy Oaklahoona bantamweight, gave San Bernardine fight fans a thrill-last night when boxing Ad Rubidoux, one of the best of his weight on the const. END OF PURSE IN MATCH WITH STROH
By Sargum Sprout
Roy Mabee came home victorious in his match with Herman Stroh at Santa Fe Springs last night. Stroh agreed to throw Roy twice in six minutes and only succeeded in gaining one fall. Roy therefore came off with the long end of the prize. Mabee weighed 172 pounds and Stroh 225. The great difference in weight enabled Stroh to flip over a new trick on Roy what the giant was pleased to call a leg Nelson. The fall came after four minutes of great wrestling in which Stroh was on the defensive most of the time.
Roy had the big boy all but down several times and was much, the stronger at the finish. He was never in any real danger except the one time, when he fell into the leg hold which resulted in his fall.
A big house saw the fun.
The match last night was the first step in Roy's preparation for one of the greatest matches of his career. He is to wrestle Pergantes, the Greek who wrestled Santel for the light-heavyweight championship in Los Angeles, Jan. 3.
The match will take place in Riverside, Feb. 9. Pergantes and Mabee are very evenly matched as to weight, build and speed. It looks like a toss-up between the two. It should be one of the greatest matches ever witnessed anywhere.
EXPECT BIG CROWD AT ARENA TONIGHT
The best crowd of the club's history is expected tonight at the weekly swat-fest on the sugar factory grounds. Billy Darnley has lined up the best looking bill in some time. Keen interest has developed in the Art Springer-Tobby Montoya affair.
If these two sprouts come thru with half the battle they furnished last Friday night this alone should be worth the price of admission.
Cyclone Midgett, Riverside, I45-pound mixer and Jack Grande, L.A. slugger, are on the semi-windup and a hot fracas is promised. Both are rough and ready mitt artists.
Babe Orton, that good Redlands Indian lad, and Mistah Young Barton also promise a go that ought to be a hummer as should also the Tex Jones vs Benny Jordan affair. Jordan is a tough youngster and holds a win over Tex but Tex is out to reverse matters tonight. Tony Ross and Tommy Reddy will throw plenty of gloves. Gil Davis of San Berdoo and Young Russell of Corona raise the curtain.

WILKINS DROPPED AFTER GREAT FIGHT
Paul Wilkins, classy Oaklahoma bantamweight, gave San Bernardine fight fans a thrill-last night when boxing Ad Rubidoux, one of the best of his weight on the coast. Wilkins gave Rubidoux the toughest battle he has had for months and it was only in the fourth round Wilkins tired enough to let Ad even matters up and score a clean knockdown. The Oklahoma boy gave every bit as much as he received and time and again had the crowd on its feet with anxiety thinking he was going to put their favorite away. However, Ad's superiority showed itself towards the Babe Orton, that good Redlands Indian lad, and Mistah Young Burton also promise a go that ought to be a hummer as should also the Tex Jones vs Benny Jordan affair. Jordan is a tough youngster and holds a win over Tex but Tex is out to reverse matters tonight. Tony Ross and Tommy Reddy will throw plenty of gloves. LOSE FOUR CHAMPS THRU GRADUATION
Anaheim champs will be greatly handicapped next year by the loss of four players thru graduation—Misses Cook, Lensing Adams and Daly-Frances Adams has been Anaheim's all around player for three seasons. Three years ago she played forward and made an enviable record. Last year and this she devoted her time to jumping center, and no Orange-co opponent can excel her. Ella Cook, player on the team last year will be greatly missed. Helen Daly has played in every game thru two seasons and has made a record that any coach can be proud of. Viola Lensing will be among those who will be missed next year. She played last year but started out in the middle of this year's season.
Mae Requarth has been in the game for three seasons and will be on hand next year. Esther Hile and Erma Young were out last year and will be back to A. U. H. S. for next year's games.
Evelyn Cordes played sub last year and made the first team this season. She is a junior and will be valuable as a forward for the coming season.
Coach Irene Jacques has lead her girls to championship honors for two years and is proud of their work. They will continue to have an occasional game and In May she will send her girls out for the So. Calif. championship.
PASADENA PITCHER'S ELIGIBILITY PROBED; COMMITTEE NAMED
Anaheim Merchants will entertain the Pasadena American Legion on the local high school diamond Sunday afternoon instead of Gardena as first announced. El Monte and Gardena, scheduled to open the Double A league together were a week late getting started. They play off their postponed game Sunday.
This also leaves Pasadena without a league game Sunday. Pasadena and Anaheim are tied for first place. Gardena will come here a week from Sunday.
Manager Billy Knott of the Merchants has received some interesting information to the effect that complaints have been registered against the eligibility of Rip Connelly, Pasadena pitcher. The So. Cal. Baseball Managers Ass'n., has named a committee to investigate. It is claimed that Connell as a member of the Toronto AA pitching staff last season should not play in the local league, where regulations limit line-ups to two AA players and these must not be pitcher or catcher.
If the Pasadena games in which Connellly pitched are thrown out, the Crown City crew is hopelessly out of the race and Anaheim the undisputed champions.
Manager Knott plans to appear before the next meeting of the Elks lodge and see if the Billis want to make another try for the state base-all championship of the order.
