LEXINGTON $100 MORE AFTER FEBRUARY 5
The declaration of the Lexington Motor company many weeks ago that Lexington prices would not be low if before they were higher, was born out very recently, when the company's distributors announced a $100.00 advance in price effective on Feb. 5. "This is a quality year—buy a Lexington" is the company's 1923 slogan. E. L. DeCew is local distributor of the Lexington.
DRIVER SHOULD SEEK SAFETY, NOT RIGHTS
Nanby?panby auto driving vs reckless smart-alleckness is a subject of vital importance which is coming up for attention in the present anti-scandal campaign being conducted by the Safety Bureau of the Auto Club of So.Cal.
For instance, say club officials, it is neither amateurish nor nanby-panby to always slow down at a railroad crossing, and it is not "smart" to rush across the tracks just because they are not actually blocked by a moving train.
Every auto driver ought to think for two—himself and the driver of the other car.
A motorist is only as safe as the most careless driver on the road, says the club Safety Bureau. It is all very well to stand upon ones rights under ordinary circumstances, but motorists will have to admit that there is not much fun in lying under a wreck and piping up reebly—"well I was right anyway."

DEALERS DON'T ACT ON USED CAR STATUS
Sentiment last night among members of the dealers' craft, Orange-cc Auto Trade Ass'n, appeared to be against any concerted plan of dealing with used cars. While certain dealers reported some difficulty in disposing of their cars at a suitable profit, others declared themselves well-satisfied. No action was taken at the meeting.
The only change likely in the method of handling will be that of adopting a more careful system in marking up sale price above trade-in price on the part of those dealers who feel they have been suffering losses.
The meeting was held at George Dunton's showrooms, and approximately 35 dealers attended. There was no speaker and practically the only topic discussed was the used car situation.
Mac-Dry Battery Used Ten Months
The fact that the Mac-Dry battery has been distributed by an Anaheim distributor for only a short time may have led to the impression that the battery is not a tried and tested make, says R. F. Herr, of 252 North Los Angeles-st.
This is a decided mistake, says Herr, E. M. Chalmers, of Anaheim, well known feed and fuel man, has had one of these dry batteries in use for two years and one-half uninterruptedly.
There are 250 of the batteries in use in Orange-co, sold by Herr alone.
The battery is the first really dry batter that has made its appearance in this vicinity, and many prominent men have testified to its value by purchasing it.

PATRONS TO BENEFIT FROM CASH SYSTEM
Patrons of Nenno & Bock, leading wholesale and retail auto accessories dealers, will be given the benefit of the cash basis on which the firm will go beginning Feb. 1. What the saving will amount to is still uncertain, because the credit system always has prevailed at the local shop.
The old method has been found impracticable for many reasons. One is the large number of small articles sold, costing 50 cents or less. Regardless of cost, each article sold must be put on record and listed again when a bill goes out.
Then there is the cost of collection, the loss of time between sale and deposit of collection, etc.
Besides this, there is the danger of mistakes which aren't pleasant for either store or patron.
The firm feels that the cash system will be far preferable all around.

MANY ROADS MUST BE REBUILT
Following a preliminary survey of state highway conditions in the southern counties of California, Harvey M. Toy, new chairman of the State Highway Commission, in an unofficial report just made to the Auto Club of So Cal, declares that hundreds of miles of highway in this state must be rebuilt.
Both Toy and Louis Everding, also a member of the high way commission, have been spending some days with Auto Club officials in this part of the state and also between San Francisco and Los Angeles, make a preliminary investigation of the immediate status of local roads.
"It is evident to anyone riding over our state highways that hundreds and hundreds of miles must be immediately rebuilt if they are to be saved at all," said Toy in his report.
"We are determined that with the help of the two automobile clubs in the state to bring order out of chaos as rapidly as possible."
The highway commissioners on their return to Sacramento intend to visit district engineers en route for
JORDAN'S BALANCE
BIG SAFETY FACTOR
Beauty is so much the pre-eminent characteristic of the Jordan, says the J. E. Walter Co., Jordan Chandler and Cleveland distributors, that the wonderful mechanism of the car is lost sight of.
Here is a car which can creep along, and noiselessly; which is so quiet that sometimes one can only be sure the engine is going because the car moves; that responds alike to accelerator and brake instantly; and that is so perfectly balanced thrust and true inside that the car sticks like a leach to the road.
Dozens of Anaheimers and others in the county testify to the long life of service which small upkeep that the Jordan gives.
Every car better than the one of previous model.
New Hudson Car's Improvements Many
The wonderful new motor of the new Hudson has distracted attention to some extent from the other features of the car, says Townsend & Medbery, Hudson and Essex distributors.
Here are some of them: The patented Hudson carburetor is perfectly automatic, only adjustment being a dash control for varying proportions of mixture. A dash operated choke is provided for starting. Air is preheated.
Battery ignition with automatic advance, a generator, a separate starting motor and a 100 ampere hour battery take care of electrical requirements.
The clutch is a multiple disc with cork-to-steel surface running in oil. The clutch throw-out is an automatically lubricated ball bearing.
The propeller shaft is tubular with spicer joints at each end and a slip stem will be far preferable all around.

Exide Battery Ideal For Conditions in Cal.
The fact that the Exide battery has stood up under the most extreme conditions of use, including widely differing temperatures, means that it is the ideal battery for California with its great variety of conditions, says George Ennis, local distributor. MacMillan, the Arctic explorer, used the Exide because of its dependability; most of the world's submarines are operated by the Exide; the U.S. Navy uses it; while some of America's biggest industries will have no other battery.
The makers of the Exide, the oldest battery on the market, have gone thru the mistakes that other manufacturers still are experiencing, says Ennis.
