The spectacular comedian's success has been founded not alone on his ability to put over his parts, as it has been in keeping up with the trend of taste in motion pictures. While everyone was making slapstick comedies, and the picking was good, Lloyd looked forward a couple of years and decided that the roast-bout brand of fun-making—the type in which the characters wear baggy pants and sling mud prodigiously—would not always have a great appeal; that is, for comedians of his calibre. From that time on, his progress was unbounded, and those who have followed his career have noted the steady improvement in every production. In "A Sailor-Made Man" he enlarged on his own ideas of the kind of comedy the public was willing to accept from him, and his opinion was vindicated. He carried this step further in "Grandma's Boy." NO FORD EMPLOYE HURT IN YEAR DETROIT, Jan. 14.—The 48,000 Ford workers at the Highland Park plant have finished a year without one fatal rashap; This is a record for which the safety department has fought with unflinching determination. When 48,000 employees are engaged in a year's work in the world's largest automobile plant, and there is not a single accident that results in death, it is not merely a matter of luck, but rather careful management and skillful functioning of the safety organization. During the year ending recently, more than 20,000 men met death in shops and factories throughout the United States. That the greater part of these fatalities were preventable seems illustrated by the record established by the Ford Motor Co.
