GREAT ARTIST
PLEASES LARGE
LOCAL AUDIENCE
FREDERICKE WAKEE has come—and gone. He left a lasting impression of his superlative ability and his charming personality. Concluding his delightful talk at the close of the program Mr. Warde said: "he who pleases to live must live to please." He has and does.
Under the auspices of the Anaheim Ebell club, Fredericke Warde the great English and American Shakespeare actor and famous star of the "Mission Play," was presented to a packed auditorium at the high school last evening, as a midwinter courtesy of the club to the schools faculties and friends of the club members.
His "Fifty Years of Make Believe," was a resume of his life as an actor from his first appearance as the second murderer in the tragedy of McBeth, in which he became dumb after uttering the first few words of his lines, up to his magnificent success as a star of Shakespearean roles, playing in almost every city of importance in the world. Through it all, happiness or sorrow, he feels he owes his success to three things, health, love and work.
With touching pride, he spoke of his beloved wife many times and joyfully told of celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary a year or two past. Many amusing little incidents of their early life were briefly reviewed, among them the passing at sea of Mr. and Mrs. Warde, both of whom did "sail next Wednesday" as the cable indicated, one according to interpreted advice, the other according to information.
His activities while supporting such stars as John McCulloch, Edwin T. Booth, Adelaide Neillson, Charlotte Cushman and countless others, brought his audience to his
Discuss Coming Program
Choir rehearsal in the Christian church last evening was especially interesting in the discussion of the musical program which will be given on the final Sunday in which services will be held in the present church. This date is set for Jan. 21, with a remote possibility of a change.
A tabernacle will be constructed on a lot two blocks south of the church in which a good old-fashioned revival will be held, starting early in February. The day of construction is to be a gala day, the ladies serving a hot chicken dinner to the volunteer workers. Photographs will be made of the lumber on the ground in the morning, the progress at noon and the completed tabernacle at night.

The club is open to all ex-students, whether they have graduated or not and tehr families.
A social evening is planned and the committee desire a large crowd out.
Euchre Club at Backs'

COTERIA CLUB IN FIRST MEETING OF NEW YEAR
For the first meeting of the Coterie club of the year, Mrs. James Black played the role of hostess yesterday.
Five hundred, the diversion of the afternoon, was enjoyed by a dozen ladies. Prize winners were Mrs. Husmann, Mrs. Groos, and Mrs. Van Horn. A lunchoon followed the games to which were served the Mes-dames Henry Husmann, Richard Groos, Rore Van Horn, Wm. J. Lake, Henry Heyling, C. D. Harrison, Hermann Schindler, Henry Schindler, Joe Stroup, Frank Mauer, Fred Mang, V. W., LaaMont and the hostess Mrs. Henry Heyling will entertain the club next month.

Annual Meeting
The annual meeting of the Christian church will be held this evening at the church beginning with
his beloved wife many times and joyfully told of celebrating their fifteenth wedding anniversary a year or two past.
Booth, Adelaide Neilson, Charlotte Cushman and countless others, brought his audience to his own national successes.
Frederick Warde as a man and Frederick Warde as an actor is consistent. His polish both on and off the stage is well known and altho snows of winter have whitened his locks he is still the bouyant, artistic gentleman actor and man.
Mrs. Nellie E. Terry, president of the Ebell club, toasted the faculty and guests, and Miss Bella Walker, vice principal of the high school in the absence of Principal J. A. Clayes, who was called to the bedside of the dying mother of one of his teachers, responded to the toast.
Mrs. Terry then charmingly introduced the speaker who acknowledged with his characteristic grace.
Present day drama, compared with that of the old school is lacking in Mr. Warde's estimation. Particularly he criticizes the enunciation of the modern player, and in a plea for their audiences reminded the player that the mouth must be opened in audible speech. His dislike for slang was mildly expressed. Whatever the present day drama lacks, however, is within the control of the public. Lack of patronage would be the silent but sure way to cultivate better performers and a better list of plays.
Guests were present from many other towns and only words of highest praise were heard from everyone after the two hour program which seemed not one half that long.
Holds German Services
For the first time in one and one-half years, or more, praise services in German will be held this evening in the Undenominational church of the Lord. The congregation has a number of German speaking members who will enjoy the innovation.

Mr. and Mrs. F. F. Ferch of Joplin, Mo., are guests at the home of their old neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Fawcett of 919 E. Broadway. Mr. Ferch is a plumber and the Fawcetts are attempting to persuade he and his wife to make their home here which shouldn't be difficult after the splendid summer weather of the last few days.
Mrs. Wm. Jackson, wife of the clothier, who left Sunday evening for New York in response to a telegram announcing the serious illness of her father, aged 94, did not arrive before the end came. Mr. Jackson is in receipt of a wire telling of the death yesterday morning. Mrs. Jackson arrived in New York Thursday evening.
J. E. Stewart was in Long Beach yesterday on business.
Miss Freda Clapp who has been visiting a few days with her sister, Mrs. C. R. Harrison of East Center street, has gone to San Diego to spend a few days with her mother before returning to Minneapolis.
No matter what the calendar says, when it's hot weather like that of the last few days, it gets into a fisherman's blood. The first trout fishing party of the new year out of Anaheim left today for the stealhead sport in Ventura-co. The party included Vlc. LaMont, Walt Kern, Les Swope and his father. As usual, Le-Mont was issued the first fishing license of the year at the Kern Cycle store.
Local friends of Mrs. Percy R. Bradford of Placentia, will be pleased to know that she is recovering nicely from the operation from appenditis which was performed in a Los Angeles hospital early this week.
There are many advantages in living today. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson and Abraham Lincoln never attended an automobile show—never rode in an automobile.
