CAR'S FIRST YEAR UPKEEP IS SMALLEST
Sell your car a year after it has been purchased new, or longer if it is a Studebaker, advises C. C. Hull, manager of the used car department of Harry D. Riles, Northern Orange County distributor. The first year offers the lowest upkeep costs, amounting to almost nothing, and cash of only a few hundred dollars is necessary on a trade-in.
Riley this week sold a special six roadster to Dr. S. J. Sieen of Fullerton and a special six touring to S. W. McColloch of Fullerton. J. W. Beebe of Fullerton, T. A. Bennett of Orange and A. Caillard of Fullerton, also purchased cars.
TELLS HISTORY OF ICE CREAM MAKING
Lee Bevier, manager of the Crescent Creamery Co., gives some enlightening information about the ice cream industry. Attho no historian, Mr. Bevier is conversant on the history of ice cream served daily in Fullerton. Anaheim, Brea, Santa Ana, Orange, Huntington Beach and Balboa from the Crescent Creamery Co. planf in Fullerton.
"Away back about five centuries ago, states Mr. Bevier, "An old Italian dairyman accidentally stumbled upon the idea of freezing liquids by applying cold. He was carrying a bucket of warm goat's milk somewhere in the Alps and set it down a second to rest. He had a large wooden spoon and attired the milk just to see what would happen: The milk at the sides of the bucket froze solid. He ate the frozen milk and liked it immensely. This ice cream got its first introduction to man.
"Later on a French chef experimented with several frozen desserts and finally served a highly selectable dish of the frozen variety and as a result of his handwork he was pensioned for life as a reward. People had a high regard for frozen cream at that time." A reminiscent twinkle
Exhausted Battery "Freezes to Death"
Drivers into the mountains are warned by George Ennis of the Automotive Electric Company that an exhausted battery will freeze in cold weather and that freezing ruins a battery. If, however, a battery is fully charged it will not freeze in 70 degrees below zero. MacMillan, the explorer, who uses an Exide buttery, which Ennis distributes, provod that conclusively.
Hydrometer readings should be carefully taken before new water is added to the battery.
Many improper operating conditions can be brought to the attention of the car owner only by the expert on Exides.
AUTO THIEVES FACE RADIO PUBLICITY
Auto thief catching is to be put on the latest and most scientific basis with the use of the ridio by the Automobile Club of Southern California.
The license numbers of all autos stolen in this part of the state are to be broadcasted each night by the club theft bureau over the largest radio station in the west. Information in regard to stolen cars will then reach all parts of America in the quickest possible time.
Not only will the numbers of stolen machines be broadcasted but the club is also giving a comprehensive program daily over the radio on subjects dear to the heart of every motor car user. Information on recent road changes as affected by weather conditions, safety talks, news of duck hunting and fishing and the solving-of legal questions will also be included.
California each year is killing off, by automobile accidents, twenty-four persons out of every 100,000 of its population. This state is more dangerous than the United States as a whole—the rate being eleven out of every 100,000 for the entire nation. California should not tolerate such a grave menace as this. Traffic should be made safer.

"Our friend Marco Polo was accused of pilfering the idea of ice cream making from his countrymen and passing it on to the Japanese. Now, some people give them all the credit. They just got the idea from others. Then later on, during the early periods of American history, Alexander Hamilton invited George Washington to banquet and served ice cream for dessert. Mr. Washington was tremendously pleased, they told me. In 1786, the first advertisement about ice cream was published in the New York Post Boy. From that time ice cream has grown in popularity by leaps and bounds."

in Fullerton has grown rapidly the last year," says Mr. Bevier. "Our territory is growing larger and more and more people are coming to realize that the Crescent symbol means absolute uniform high quality. We are now serving many of the largest dealers in this territory."
"Our employees are all local men and we take particular care in choosing them. We prefer married men with families who are property owners," concluded Mr. Bevier.
Mr. Bevier added: "We are trying to serve the very best ice cream it is possible to manufacture and the steady increase in our business makes us believe that it pays to make the best."

JORDAN MORE THAN A BEAUTIFUL CAR
Beauty is so much the pro-eminent characteristic of the Jordan, says the J. E. Walter Company, Jordan, Chandler and Cleveland distributors, that the wonderful mechanism of the car is lost sight of.
Here is a car which can creep along, and noiselessly; which is so quiet that sometimes one can only be sure the engine is going because the car moves; that responds alike to accelerator and brake instantly; and that is so perfectly balanced throut and true inside that the car sticks like a leach to the road.
Dozens of Anaheimmers and others in the county testify to the long life of service which small upkeep that the Jordan gives.
Every car better than the one of previous model.
