Fifty-seven new members were admitted to the Fullerton C. of C. at its regular monthly meeting last night, which was largely attended, a banquet being served to about 200. S. C. Hartranft who was to have addressed the meeting was unable to attend, and the time was taken up in committee reports which gave a review of the work for the last year. Progress was reported in every line. Committee chairmen reporting included: R. S. Gregory, advertising committee; J. Charles Thamer, transportation committee; E. J. Marks, civic improvement committee; Waldo O'Kelly, legislative committee; Angus McAulay, industrial committee, and Immanuel Smith, financial committee. SPECIAL WEEK-END TRAIN The Santa Fe is planning a special train to San Diego Sunday, leaving Los Angeles at 8:30, pass through Fullerton about 9:10 and reach San Diego at noon. The returning train leaves San Diego at 7 o'clock, reaches Fullerton about 9:30 and Los Angeles about 10:30. W. N. Hunt of the Fullerton Realty Co., went to Los Angeles today. Mrs. Margaret Howard of Anaheim left yesterday over the Santa Fe for Chicago where she expects to spend about 30 days. Mrs. Sam Bright, whose husband is one of the leading men in Brunk's commedians players now playing at Anaheim, left last night over the Santa Fe for Mangum, Okla. HALT SETTLEMENT OF NORTHCLIFFE WILL LONDON, Dec. 21.—A mysterious woman appeared at the hearing of the late Viscount Northeliffe's will case today and blocked immediate settlement. SANTA FE BUILDS BIG PACKING HOUSE Excavations are being made just off So. Spadra-rd, south of the Santa Fe tracks for a new packing house which is to be in charge of Thomas Eadington, formerly connected with the Benchley Fruit Co. The contract for initial construction work was let by the Santa Fe, and the work is being done by E. W. Moore, general cement contractor, who is to make excavation and construct the basement and foundation. Work on excavations was begun yesterday. The house is to be 80x120 feet, with a basement of 80x75 feet. The permit has not yet been taken out for the building. XMAS PROGRAM AT CYPRESS CHURCH CYPESS, Dec. 21.—There will be a Christmas entertainment at the Cypress church Saturday evening. A program has been prepared and every one is invited to come and enjoy the evening. G. L. McWilliams is driving a new Jewett these days. Mervin LaRite has accepted a position with J. W. Fuquay, Mervin position is head mud mucker on the Fuquay well-tools. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Emerson and Willard Emerson of Claton, Ind., Mary and George Galloway of Pasadena were luncheon visitors at the C. S. Cox home Sunday. The G. G. Priddy were Xmas shoppers in Los Angeles yesterday. Mrs. W. C. Miller was a business visitor in Los Angeles Wednesday. FILM TALENT RACE CLOSES CHRISTMAS HALT SETTLEMENT OF NORTHCLIFFE WILL LONDON, Dec. 21.—A mysterious woman appeared at the hearing of the late Viscount Northeliffe's will case today and blocked immediate settlement. The woman—whose name, according to the police, is Mrs. C. A. Thomas—arose in the courtroom and declared that she desired to enter a caveat against the will in respect to a prior claim for certain money and property. The judge immediately adjourned the hearing for a few hours. BRITAIN DENIES U. S. DEBT PLAN LONDON, Dec. 21.—The British foreign office announced today that it has no knowledge of the report that the American government is going to appoint a commission to fix a new basis for reparations payments. "No communication suggesting such a thing has been received from the United States government," it was stated at the foreign office. DETROIT WILL BAR ARBUCKLE FILMS DETROIT, Mich., Dec. 21.—Koscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle will not be welcomed back to the movie screenings in Detroit; it was indicated in statement issued by Acting Mayor John C. Lodge. A recommendation to bar all films featuring the rotund comedian will be sent to Police Commissioner Inches, Lodge, said. FILM TALENT RACE CLOSES CHRISTMAS As the Film Talent Contest of the United Theatre draws to a close, the interest on the part of both the public and the contestants increases. The several young ladies in the race are going after the votes with doubled vigor and each is determined that the coveted prize shall be hers. Practically everyone is familiar with the conditions and purposes of the contest. Voting coupons are handed to purchasers of admission tickets to the United Theatre; the name of the favored candidate is written on the coupon or ballot and it is deposited in the ballot box. The fortunate young lady obtaining the largest number of votes will have the exceptional opportunity of actually taking part in a standard motion picture soon to be made and given world distribution. Certainly, the reward is well worth the effort. The contest closes at 11:00 p.m. Christmas night, Monday, Dec. 25th. No ballots will be accepted after that hour. The winner of the contest will be announced Sunday, Dec. 31st. It is expected that all contestants will accept the invitation of the management to be present when the name of the winner is announced. Universal's feature photoplay starring Herbert Rawlinson usually breathe the absolute spirit of "action." "Another Man's Shoes" at the United theater tonight and tomorrow is not only an action play but has the dramatic quality and fineness necessary in a successful novel. Victor Bridges is the author and his book sold out several editions. A dual role, that of a man hunted by an assassin band, and a man of remarkable likeness who impersonates the first for adventure's sake, gives Rawlinson an opportunity for exceptional work. As cast was chosen that indicates the tendency of leading producers to offer the finest personnel possible in screen entertainment. Barbara Bedford is the leading woman, while Una Trevelyn of "The Devil's Pass Key" fame. Nick de Ruiz, Josef Swickard, Jean DeBriac, Harry Carter, Nelson McDowell, Lilliana Langdon and Jessie Dearnette have principal roles in support of the romantic characters. It is said that Jack Conway had an opportunity in this to excel his work as the director of such successes of recent months as "Don't Shoot." SERVES SENTENCE TO SAVE XMAS MONEY SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 21.—Miss Martha Blattner, University of California student from Selma, Calif., completed 24 hours in jail today for speeding. She was fined $15 with the alternative of serving the jail sentence. "If I may my allowance is such that I will not be able to imish my Christmas shopping," she told the court and elected to go to jail. HIGH CLASS PLAY BILLED FOR TONIGHT St. Elmo, one of the most noted plays, will be presented this evening by Brunk's comedians. This play attracted considerable attention in Fullerton two weeks ago and more than 300 were turned away. The management urges everyone to come early. "The Straight Road," another real vood and entertaining play, was given last evening. HYLAN ASKS KLAN PAPER BE SQUELCHED NEW YORK, Dec. 21.—President Harding was today requested by Mayor Hylan to stop the publication of Colonel Mayfield's weekly, a Ku Klux Klan paper published in Texas. The request was made on the grounds that the paper was deliberately disseminating race prejudice and attempting to destroy the peace and happiness of the nation. GERMAN COURT ENDS WAR GUILT CASES BERLIN, Dec. 21.—The supreme court of Leipzig in a secret session today, dismissed 93 "war guilt" cases tried in accordance with the Versailles treaty. The court declared the defendants had been proven neither absolutely guilty nor innocent of crime against German law. Seven hundred and seventy-one cases are pending.
