The Realtors owe their success largely to the wizard pitching of that ancient star of the big leagues, Josephus Wagner. Shilling received. Fowler at short and Sanford in left played good ball. LaMont and Rust worked on the mound for the fire laddies with Lazargoni receiving. The indoor baseball league is proving very popular, both to players and oldfathers, particularly those among the latter who have a keen sense of humor. A few months back there were just a few enthusiasts who owned fast motor boats; now several large clubs and a motor boat racing association. Commodore Gar Wood of Detroit, who owns two of the fastest motor boats afloat, has arrived in Los Angeles harbor, motor boats, and all. Wood has come out with the intention of showing the local speed bugs just what real speed is. These westerners have a disagreeable habit of springing surprises. The Commodore is liable to limp back to Detroit with knowledge that Bill Farnum, Cecil DeMille, or some other westerner has a more speedy boat than Miss America II or Miss Detroit V. Motor racing is a great sport for those who can afford the pleasure. It is safe to say that within the next few years our coast will be the mecca of motor boat and yacht racing. DELHI CLUB SEES SLUGGING MATCHES (By Manly Art) It was a night of slugging matches over at Boyd Ellis's fight shanty at Delhi last night. Six bouts, each a slug-fest from start to finish, pleased a big crowd. In the main event, Tom Kelly, the flashy performer with the Irish name but who really should claim Cecko-Slovako, Bulgaria or some such place across the pond as his real abode, came through with another win over Santa Ana Jack Iman. But, we'll tell the wide world, that he had to work his ding-hustedest to do so for Jack made him feel better. DUGAS REVAMPS HIS TEAM FOR BARBERS Smarting under two defeats by Dick's Close Shaves, Ernie Dugas has revamped the lineup of his Whittier five and is looking for revenge tonight. Dugas had 12 men woking out on the local alleys Tuesday night and will put in the best combination possible against the to-date invulnerable barbers. who surprised even his most ardent admirors by the great showing he made when everyone was figuring that poor oil Hank would be carried out on a stretcher. Already 18 have entered and a lot of interest has developed. Dr. J. D. Thomas, Olive banker, has offered an ivory-topped, jointed cue for the winner. Other prizes will be announced later. LOCAL BOXERS AT BERDOO TONIGHT (By Manly Art) The Urbita Athletic Club of San Bernardino is holding its weekly swat-test tonight and it appears that Matchmaker Jerry McCarthy has booked an attractive looking card for the Gate City fana. Jimmy Musso and Eddie Murphy are holding down the main position at 128 pounds. Earl Lane, the rugged Oklahoma City boy, and tough Joe Grimm of Berdoo will meet in a return match at 146 pounds. They put up a sensational goof it here last week. Billy Darnley, manager of the local club, is taking over with him as well. Art Espin who is booked to meet Kid Rublo, Johnny Nandes who will tangle with Sailor Waltman and Tommy Reddy who mixes with Dick Jordan of Redlands. JOCKEY RECOVERS FROM RACE SPILL TIA JUANA, Dec. 21.—Jockey Pevic, thrown from Lucky Pearl in the fourth race yesterday was recovering today from the accident. It was stated he would be able to ride again in a few days. Bill Head won the sixth race, the feature yesterday. B. B. PLAYER SPRAINS DIGIT H. E. McGillivary had the misfortune last evening to sprain his little finger on his left hand while playing ball with the Firemen against the Realtors in the Community Service indoor league. It palmed him considerably for some time but (By Manly Art) It was a night of slugging matches over at Boyd Ellis's fight shanty at Delhi last night. Six bouts, each a slug-fest from start to finish, pleased a big crowd. In the main event, Tom Kelly, the flashy performer with the Irish name but who really should claim Cecho-Slovako, Bulgaria or some such place across the pond as his real abode came through with another win over Santa Ana Jack Iman. But, we'll tell the wide wide world, that he had to work his ding-bustedest to do so for Jack made him step fast every inch of the way. A draw probably would have done no harm but the judges thought different, being evidently influenced greatly by Kelly's last round rally when he had Iman all but out on his feet. The first two were even, give Kelly a shade in the third and all of the fourth and there you have it. It was a good, hard fought contest throutout and altho, on the loser's end, Iman showed flashes of his old time form. The surprise of the night, however, was in the Jack Martin-Hank Gatten affair. Gatten winning three out of the four rounds and holding his opponent even in the other. When we say that Gatten won we mean it but, the Hon. judges said nax, that it was even and so even it had to be. But Jack Martin of Los Angeles can thank his lucky star that he made himself solid with the judges which enabled him to get a draw for if ever a boy was beaten Jack Martin was last night and by Hank Gatten Smarting under two defeats by Dick's Close Shaves, Ernie Dugas has revamped the lineup of his Whittier five and is looking for revenge tonight. Gatten came thru with the real goods and showed all of the class which he is known to have when he takes a notion in his head to use it. Joe Garcia and Tommy Aggurie of Huntington Beach fought four slashing rounds—or rather almost four we'll say—when Tommy, who, after fighting like a wildcat and making it exceedingly hot for Josephum, took a notion in his head just before the call of time in the fourth round that he had enough and so took a dive to the canvas that would have made Annette Kellerman green with envy. Battling Doty made a chopping block of Delhi Fredericks in four rounds. Doty hit Delhi so hard and often that he had him acting like a Ringling Brothers circus clown the last two rounds. In other words, he had him knocked,"goofy." Lee Reece of El Modena lost the decision to Joe McGurk in four rounds while Renny Dias won over Kid McCarter in three. With every man in excellent condition and ready for their game against the Univ. of W. Va., at San Diego Christmas Day, members of the Gonzaga university football team, accompanied by oaches and officials, arrived in Los Angeles today en route to the southern city. Charles Dorais, coach of the squad, piled his men into automobiles upon their arrival here and motored over to Bovard field, where he put them through a stiff workout before continuing the journey late this afternoon to San Diego. Watching his grid artists practice, Dorais declared that he was looking for a tough battle but there was no doubt in his mind as to the outcome of the contest. "My loya realize the Mountaineers have a wonderful record and a wonderful team," said Dorais, "but we are going to present something now on the field Christmas Day that should prove a surprise." Immediately after the workout at Bovard members of the Gonzaga squad were taken to the Los Angeles Athletic club where they were the guests of the Loyola alumni at an informal luncheon. At 3 o'clock they boarded the train for San Diego and will arrive in the border city about 8 o'clock tonight. While the Gonzaga squad was in Los Angeles today, their Christmas Day opponents—West Virginia—were aboard the California flyer several hours out of Kansas City. The squad missed connections at Chicago yesterday and as a result were delayed several hours and their whole traveling program was changed.
