YOU CAN'T START ANY YOUNGER SCREEN STAR TELLS BOXER'S STRUGGLES "—Eight—Nine—Ten!" cried the referee. But that didn't bother me; I couldn't hear him—I was listening to the pretty birdies singing among the stars which revolved about my aching head, so says Reginald Denny. I was counted out of the prize ring into the film game. My previous athletic experience had been combined to the Manchester (Eng.) Opera Company with which I had tourned the world prior to the outbreak of the World War. Shortly after my marriage in Calcutta to one of the company's principals, Mr. Hanzollern started getting gay. With most of the male members of the company I started on the next P. & O. boat to England, where I enlisted as a private in the Royal Flying Corps. After a couple of alterations with "Jerry," I was awarded my commission as a Second Lieutenant. My fighting was not confined to the air, however, as I engaged in many boxing bouts, finally being awarded the heavyweight championship of our battalion. Boxing had always been my hobby. When I was a little shaver I had been conceived and trained by some of the best managers in English sporting circles and was touted as being one of the most promising kids in the training quarters which I used to frequent. At one time, Lord Lonadale, the grand old man of English sports, took me under his wing, but soon afterwards I gave up the ring for the stage. After the war, I tried to get back into opera, but conditions were terrible, so I went back into the fighting game. One appearance in the squared circle satisfied me—I was knocked out in the first round and I left for the States soon afterwards. After many disappointments, I finally landed a small part in a picture from then on the going was easier. I appeared in support of John Barrymore in "Sherlock Holmes," George Arling in "Disraeli," and had a role in Cardigan." LEGAL NOTICE NOTICE OF PUBLIC WORKS NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN: SECTION 1.
