Saturday, Dec. 16, 1922 STUDEBAKER LIGHT SIX OUTPUT LARGER One of the principal sales of Studebaker cars this week was one of a light six coupe to Dr. John W. Troxaw, who told Harry D. Riley that the car was just what he wanted for professional use. The car is especially designed for business and professional men. It was designed by the father of A. R. Erakine, president of the Studebaker Corporation and himself a physician. The Studebaker factory at South Bend, Ind., has been closed for a month to enable additional building and equipment, costing $30,000,000, whereby the light six production will be increased 331-3 per cent. Other purchasers of Studebakers this week are; J. R. Wooley of El Modena, roadster; Donald A. Simpson of Fullerton, roadster; and Ruth E. Osborne of Fullerton, roadster. Riley also has sold cars to J. W. Cordes and William Huhn of Anaheim, L. H. Lester of Fullerton, G. N. Hedrick and H. Callahan of Orange and Zola Z. Powelson of Santa Ana. Golden State Sedan New Studebaker Car Harry D. Riley, Northern Orange-co Studebaker distributor, will put on exhibition today a new special Studebaker model, the Golden State sedan, equipped by Paul G. Hoffman, Inc., So Cal. distributors. Features include: Front bumper motometer, motometer cap and lock, windshield wings, cowl ventilator, rear view mirror, Folberth automatic windshield wiper, a $35-clock, transmission lock, auxiliary cushions, small interior lights in corner of top, gold dome light, silk curtains on sides and rear, and many other things that make this one of the biggest values ever offered. Reasonably prompt deliveries may be expected. Ten years hence Astoria, Ore., will be without a scar of the big conflagration which has laid its principal parts in ruins. Such are the miracles inspired by American spirit. Hudson-Essex Merger Enabled Price Cuts When distributors and dealers generally were least expecting it, in view of their belief that Hudson and Essex motor cars were already at bedrock prices, came the surprising announcement from the factory or another deep slash in the selling figures of all current Hudson models and one Essex. The reductions were in the amount of $100.00 in the prices of all styles of the former except the sedan, which was cut double that amount, and of $100.00 in the price of the Essex coach, those of the touring car and the cabriolet remaining as previously. While these reductions, news of which was contained in a wire from the Hudson Motor Car Company at Detroit to Townsend and Medbury, Hudson-Essex dealer in this sales territory, on Wednesday, were not expected; the reasons therefore are said by him to be plain. "Price makes volume, and conversely," expained H. R. Grove, branch manager. "Recently Hudson and its subsidiary, Essex, were consolidated, eliminating the overhead expense of a second organization, and upward of $1,000,000 was added to the motor-building capital. Plans have been laid for producing about 10,000 automobiles a month during 1923. Factory officials realize thoroughly that in order to market such a number of cars they must give values comparable with anything in the market at prices which the buying public can afford to pay. GALLUR REFUSED PAROLE SAN QUENTIN, Dec. 16—Damascus Gallur, bandmaster at San Quentin, was refused a parole yesterday by the state board of pardon directors. The board held that Gallur must serve at least ten years of his sentence. During his incarceration, Gallur is said to have been a model prisoner and proved a remarkable band leader. His application for parole was supported by 2400 signatures. Los Angeles and Chestnut-st., is about to move into the first unit of their new structure, which joins their old building on Chestnut-st.
