SURPRISE FORMER FRIENDS IN NEW SANTA ANA HOME A company of Anaheim friends made a surprise visit last evening upon Rev. G. R. Messias, former rector of St. Michael's parish, and Mrs. Messias, at their new home on French street, in Santa Ana, and passed an enjoyable evening. The visit was in the nature of a house warming and as an expression of the esteem in which they are held by the friends whom they left in Anaheim. In token of this esteem, a beautiful article of furniture was presented to them to add to their lovely home. The evening was passed in music and a very clever dramatic reading was given by Mrs. Hugo Schulz. Refreshments, which were provided by the ladies of the party, were served later. The downpour did not dampen the ardor of the self-invited visitors who went early and remained late, and who thoroughly enjoyed the evening in the attractive new home of the former Anaheimers. Busy with Christmas Boxes Rain and "unusual" weather seems to make little difference to the Christmas activities of the American Legion and the Auxiliary, as committees are busy making candles, cookies and sweets which will be packed into 300 Christmas boxes to present to disabled veterans at Camp Kearny and Norwalk. Any person who is interested in the work is cordially invited to visit the Legion club rooms any afternoon this week and see what the ladies are doing. A committee is in the club rooms every afternoon and anyone caring to donate nuts, candy or cooked goods may take them to the club rooms. The Legion and Auxiliary will be very grateful for any donations. New DeVinney Grandbaby Rejoicing is all a high point in the DeVinney and Llewellyn families today, over the advent of a nine-pound daughter, born last night to Mr. and Mrs. Donald DeVinney. The little girl has been named Sylvia Mae. She is the fourth grandchild of Mrs. Ide DeVinney, and a niece of Mrs. W. J. Llewellyn. Yesterday was the second birthday anniversary of Master Billy Llewellyn, Jr. All four off the grandchildren have birthdays in the Christmas month, which seems a little unfair to the youngsters, coming so near to Santa Claus visit. City Hall Folk Feast Mrs. Mildred Powell was honored yesterday in celebration of her birthday anniversary, with a banquet given by the employees at the city hall. An unusual amount of rustling about was noted by Mrs. Powell just about noontime, but her suspicions were unaroused until she was invited to enjoy a feast, and told it was in her honor. The noon hour passed swiftly and the busy folk returned to their desks feeling that birthdays are pretty nice occasions, after all.
