5000-BBL. GUSHER AT SANTA FE SPGS.

The General Petroleum captured the production honors for the week at Santa Fe Springs by bringing in a 5000 barrel well. The new record producer is a redrill of Santa Fe No. 4, a well at 4213 that made a good producer for a few months but was destroyed by the water breaking in. Drilling Santa Fe 4 to 4629 resulted in bringing in a 5000 barrel well. This is now the third largest producer in the field. The General Petroleum's Hill 87 at 3837 failed to make an oil well and attempts will be made to swedge out the oil string and deepen the well.
C. C. Julian is depening his No. 1 and will make a big well out of it if the Meyer sand is there to draw on. It seems that the Bell sand thins out in the vicinity of the Julian and Elliott Petroleum properties and it is necessary to go on down and tap the Meyer sand in order to get big producers. Julian's No. 2 is holding steadily at 2100 barrels and will probably continue a long time producer. At 3750 No. 4 is beginning to show oil and look promising. Julian is announcing another big move, the location of the development work is not given but it is believed he has chosen the west extension of the field and will locate near the Santa Fe Chief on the M. & H. Oil Company.
The outlook for E. A. Lamb is brightening. At 3950 a nice showing of oil was struck and backing up to 3020 a string of 8-inch casing was set. Mr. Lamb has had about all the troubles that usually attend the getting of an oil well, but he has surmounted them all.
The north side of the field got its first encouragement though small with a little showing of oil in the Stanard Oil Company's Wolfskill. Drilling at close to 4900 feet a little color was noted.
The extreme northwest section of the field is looking very doubtful now since the Union Oil Company's Flood No. 1 has reached a depth of 5080 feet and found no oil showings of any importance. The Union is drilling the test well with great care taking core barrel samples about every ten feet. On the Bell property at No. 10 the Union Oil company brought in a 1500 barrel well. The new Union producer was brought in at 3806 feet.
What is known as the West Extension of Santa Fe Springs is fast taking on the appearances of an oil field. The west extension is a mile west on Telegraph Road. The Santa Fe Chief Oil company was the first to attract attention to this section and did the pioneering. The Santa Fe Chief has a rig up and is ready to

The production of Long Beach was increased approximately four thousand barrels by the bringing in of two wells this week, one by the Marine Oil Corp; the other by the Hawthorne Oil Co. The Hawthorne Oil Co., is a new company in the Long Beach field and has been fortunate in getting into production with its first well in a few months of operation. The Hawthorne completed its No. 1 at 3451 and brought in a 1300 barrel producer. The Marine Oil Corp, at its No. 7 completed a 2500 barrel well at 3790.
The Acne Petroleum Co. one of the Vern Dumas group at 3064 feel failed to make anything better than a 125 barrel well and preparations are underway to deepen that well and put it down to the lower sands.
The outlook for the Cooper Petroleum Co. is good. This company took over the P. M. & C. Syndicate well, known as the Avacado, a few months ago and drilled to 4008 feet. The well is showing up very nicely and has all the earmarks of a good deep producer.
Joseph Dabney figures that he has spent money, time, and cement enough on No. 4 and abandoned the well. Repeated attempts to shut off the water in tills well failed, and the best way out seemed to be to plug the hole and drill a new well.
Herwick 7 seems to be playing a deceptive game with its owners. At 4325 the well showed a lot of oil, shot over the crown several times and looked like the real thing, but some reason or rather it fails to maintain a flow and makes production by heads. It seems that it will be necessary to deepen and tap more of the sand. The Herwick 7 has attracted attention for almost half a year. At the time the well was located it was almost three quarters of a mile from the center of production.
The south slope of Signal Hill is not to be abandoned without further tests. Just recently the McGregor Syndicate took over the Pacific Petroleum Corporation's Irvine well at 3270 feet. The McGregor Syndicate contends that production on the south side of the Hill is deep and will put the Irvine well down.
Much interest is being manifested in the showings of Superior Oil Co.is getting in the Kline well at 4365.Some very promising oil color showings indicate a possibility of securing a well under the 4500 foot mark.At 4365 the formation shows a good oil sand carrying a lot of gas and some oil.The Kline well will open up much new territory...

Drilling west extension section of the SHN operations will be started in the west extension section of the field during the coming wedek.

ATTRACTIVE WINDOW DISPLAY
Among the most attractive window displays of the Christmas season are in the Dunton garage. Reminiscent of back east weather at this season, produced by frosty snow effects on drooping branches and ornamented by colored glass balls, an effective background is made for a display of auto accessories urged for Christmas giving.
