The Plain Dealer Pa SANTA ANA WINS LEAGUE HONORS It was a grand scrap. With the blackboard shown 0 to 0 at the end of the first half, it almost looked like anybody's game, until Spud Morrison's Santa Ana bunch got their danders up. The latter won by 7 to 0. And Fullerton lost the county championship. SAN DIEGO & SANTA ANA PLAY SO. CAL. TITLE BATTLE SAT. Choosing a neutral field for the first lap of the So. Calif. championship football game, Santa Ana and San Diego football teams will meet on Fullerton grid Saturday, Dec. 2 at 2:30. By defeating Fullerton yesterday, Santa Ana holds the Orange league honors and San Diego the title for San Diego high schools. The largest crowd ever present at Fullerton is expected for the game Saturday. CHANCE HAS REAL JOB WITH RED SOX By Sargum Suonti Frank Chance, the Peerless Leader, of the Chicago Cubs four pennants in a raw fame, is to manage the Boston Red Sox. It wasn't but a few years back that he quit baseball forever when he failed to keep the Los Angeles team up to a winning stride. Chance tried to put the N. Y. Yankas on the map but after spending a young fortune gave up the job. In Los Angeles paper he came out with a statement in which he In the first quarter Fullerton fought its way three times to Santa Ana's 10-yard line, after an attack following forward passes. But their assaults crumbled when they got near their foes' line. The home team lacked a good forward plunger to make their attacks bear fruit. Black, half back for Santa Ana, starred repeatedly, with plunges, punts and tackles. On a series of end runs he carried the ball from Santa Ana's 40-yard line to that of Fullerton. Then a forward pass started a new play which brought the ball to Fullerton's 22-yard line. A plunge for six yards gain and another plunge later brought the first down, on Fullerton's 11-yard line. Then the whistle blew and Fullerton was saved. Soon after the opening of the second half Captain Wilcox made a long run, followed by a couple of tackle bucks, and the-ball was on Fullerton's 25-yard line. Duncan tried to kick from the 35-yard line, but the ball fell short. One Fullerton man started to pick the ball up, but was tackled by one of his foes and fumbled. A second Fullertonian did likewise with the same result. Then a Santa Anu rescued the ball on the six-yard line. The line held, until Santa Ana had a conference and, resuming play, sent LeBard thru right tackle for the winning score. Duncan kicked the goal. EXPECT HOT FIRE WHEN TEXAS AND ORTON One of the matches off program billed for the week Friday night that is no small amount of interest it is away down on the return meeting bet Jones, the Texarkana Ju and Babe Orton, the Redd lad with the large wallh their third meeting in the months. He was got nicely as you please whe JOB WITH RED SOX By Sargum Surowt Frank Chance, the Peerless Leader of the Chicago Cubs four pennants in a raw fame, is to manage the Boston Red Sox. It wasn't but a few years back that he quit baseball forever when he failed to keep the Los Angeles team up to a winning strike. Chance tried to put the N.Y. Yankas on the map but after spending a young fortune gave up the job. In Los Angeles paper he came out with a statement in which he took all the credit for the building of the great Cub machine which brought him fame. We do not know who assembled the old Cub machine but we do know that machine represented more brains than any other baseball team ever assembled. All a manager had to do was to keep the pitchers in rotation. The idea is Mr. Chance has had all the credit due him. He has been credited with having managed the greatest combination of ball players yet assembled. He made a complete fixie of the New York venture. He won one pennant with L.A. then tore up his winning combination and got tired and threw up the sponge before he could assemble another winner. In the closely pruned Red Sox he has a very slim tree to start with and we will bet our only night shirt he throws up his job before he gets that tree to producing. Walks on baseball, we wonder at the New and wherefore Harry Hughes is out of league ball when he can display the stuff he did last Sunday. His curves were breaking, not curving. He had the Santa Monica batmen completely baffled. There are a lot of pitcher getting by in the Coast League with a lot less than Harry Hughes can display. ANAHEIM DEFEATS WHITTIER COLLEGE Anahsim girls basketball team defeated Whittier college girls at Whittier 19 to 7. The Whittier girls have just recently organized and did not give the locals a very stiff fight. However, it was a good practice game and will keep the girls in trim. Owing of the Santa Ana Fullerton game yesterday, the Montebello team did not come down and the two schools will battle next week. The following girls were in action against whittier: Ella Cook, Frances Adams, Mad Requish, Irma Young, Esther Hile, Helen Daly, Exclyn Cordes and Theresa Nussbaum. REVERSE ENGLISH Potatoes at $2 per 100 pounds are certainly dirt cheap. If you don't believe it ask the fellow who has to raise and dig them. But when a ball fell short. Two dozen hockey clubs, shin guards, rubber balls and other paraphernalia have been recured and practice will start next week. This is a comparatively new game, although many of the larger high schools, and colleges of the state are teaching it to girls. Santa Ana girls have alraedy started practice and they will furnish competition for a match in the near future. The game is played on the football field with goal posts four yards wide and seven feet high at the ends of the field. These are used to catch he ball. There are 11 on a team and the players are called "forwards," "halfs", "full backs" and goal keeper. The game is rather complicated to get onto but the girls are very much interested. Miss Irene Jacques will coach. TWO S.A. BUSINESS HOUSES ROBBED Twenty-five dollars in bills, 400 pennies and some change, bringing the total to about $30 was the amount secured from the Rossmore cafeteria last night when burglars broke open the cash register, after gaining entrance through the alloy window. Mrs. Laura Warner, who runs a small store at Fruit and Garfield-sts., also reported the loss of a small amount of cash, which she missed this morning. No clue has been found to either theft.
