HARDING ASKS FOR NEAR EAST RELIEF Overwhelmed by the extraordinary demands for food and general relief from nearly two million Christian refugees men, women and children fleeing the Kemalist Turks' overseas American relief workers have enlisted the aid of President Harding in calling upon the nation for contributions of Near East Emergency Relief funds during Thanksgiving week. President Harding will issue a proclamation for the observance of Sunday, Dec. 3, as "Near East Emergency Day," asking that all citizens hold the present tragedy in the Near East in mind during Thanksgiving Week, and appealing for "a response equal to the emergency and worthy of the generous heart and humanitarian spirit of our great Republic." Governors of states and mayors of cities, in turn, will be asked to do the same thing. Rev. J. A. Geissinger, local chairman of Near East Relief, says: "The Near East is in great distress. So great is the disaster that the president is calling upon the people to relieve the emergency. Near East Relief is being charged with the responsibility of heading up the program for Thanksgiving Week. Funds obtained here will be applied overseas jointly by the American Red Cross and Near East Relief. "Cash given through local pastors or banks or sent to W. W. Gibbs, Jr., 517 Wright and Callender bldg, Los Angeles will be telegraphed to New York to apply upon flour purchases either loading or enroute to Near East sufferers." Store RICHES IN CHRIST, TOPIC OF SERMON "The Fathomless Riches in Christ" was the sermon subject of Dr. Geissinger at the White Temple Sunday morning. His text was Eph. 3:8. He said in part: "Paul was always great. He had a great philosophy of history; for he saw from the beginning human sin and God's purpose of grace pressing down to human need until in Christ full redemption came not only for the Jews but also for the Gentiles, for all mankind and on the same basis. He never forget that it was his mission in the world to preach this grace of God to man. He was his own man. He was the ambassador of Christ. 'Hear him: 'I am determined to know nothing among you but Jesus Christ and him crucified.' That was his gospel—an antionement for sin in Christ; a way out for man thru the grace of God made manifest in Christ. We preach not ourselves, he says on another occasion, not ourselves but Jesus as Lord.' He never forgot that his Lord had said 'And if I be lifted up will draw all men unto myself and faithfully be lifted Jesus up, crucified and risen, for the redemption of the whole humanity. 'He says here that he is set to proclaim the riches of grace in Christ Jesus, the forgiveness of sins, the deliverance of those bound, the enrichment and empowering of every man thru faith in Christ. Let us think about these fathomless riches of Christ. The riches of his teachings. Think of Jesus' teaching about God, man, duty, destiny. God. He says "Your Father knoweth that you have need of these things." That is the word to the mind of man. "All things are possible to God." that is his word to give good gifts to your children, do you think you are better than God." That is his word to the freeful hearts of men. He has made all men say when they think of the ultimate reality in the world: "Our Father." He said that man was worth dying for and made men see that they are sons of God. He spoke great words on man about duty and illustrated his teachings by the parable of the Good Samaritan and then said to man, the son of God: "Be ye perfect as your womon IS HEAD OF POISONING GANG LONDON, Nov. 27.—A woman signing herself "Molly," lying in an obscure London suburb, was revealed tonight as the principal in the poison pots directed against officials of Scotland Yard to which Sir William Harwood, commissioner of London police, already has fallen a victim. Harwood is critically ill in a London hospital while all the forces of Britain's secret service are on the track of the supposed maniac, who has made three attempts on lives of Scotland Yard officials by maens of boxes of poisoned candy and cake. The sweets were received in plain packages, addressed in a woman's handwriting. The postal slips required by the British law were signed "Molly" in unmistakably feminine handwriting. Harwood wa sstricken after eating several pieces of candy sent him by mail Thursday. ROSES RESTORED TO FADED CHECKS Can roses be restored to faded cheeks? Can modern science bring parenthood to the childless? These and many more questions that are now in the public mind will be answered at the premier of the first motion picture description "Rejuvenation Through Gland Transplanting,' which will be shown at Fairyland Theater, Thursday and Friday. One of the above questions will be answered conclusively in motion pictures of the world's first goat gland baby and his father. The father, William Stittsworth, is a well known businessman and agriculturist, of Milford, Kansas, while the boy, now four years old, is a healthy normal youngster. In addition to the picture description of gland transplanting, a sensational feature "How Human Life Begins,' describing the little known mysteries of life's origin, will be shown. tween man and God. In that death we see God's love pressing down to human need and we see what a hideous thing is that it would crucify the noblest helper man ever had. No man can stand by Calvary without feeling his own heart made to aspire after God and his righteousness. He said that man was worth dying for and made men see that they are sons of God. He spoke great words on man about duty and illustrated his teachings by the parable of the Good Samaritan and then said to man, the son of God: "Be ye perfect as your Heavenly Father is perfect. He gave men a sense of eternity and told men that they were builders and they themselves had a choice of foundations. And then he sent men forth under these mighty inspirations to build a civilization, not upon self-interest but upon love and service and goodwill. But his life was richer even than his teachings. How he moved me—Nicodemus, Levi, Zaccheus, Peter John and all the rest—moved them to the highest and best they were capable of. He made them love truth and right and their fellows. And he does that with men to this day. And yet what Paul most emphasized of Christ. He knew that man needed more than a great word from God, more than a holy example. He needed to have his heart broken—to be brought to penitence for his sins and in the death of Christ he saw sin broken and atonement made be-tween man and God. In that death we see God's love presing down to human need and we see what a hideous thing sin is that it would crucify the noblest helper man ever had. No man can stand by Calvary without feeling his own heart made to aspire after God and his righteousness. And, what Christ does for the man of faith is to lift him to his own level until he too may feel the power of his resurrection, the power of an endless life beating in his own heart. Thus by faith in Christ men may become Christ-like. That was the message of Paul to the heathen people of his day and it is the word of Christianity to the world today. And this is the teaching, the gospel message that the world needs today. This week we observe nationally a Day of Thanksgiving. What do we commemorate on Thanksgiving Day? The heritage of America. We thank God for the men and women who have gone before us and have thru faith in the Most High God made righteousness to prevail in the land. The men who laid the foundations of this Republic, were for the most part men of God. Their ideals of life and political organization had been shaped by the Bible and by the teaching and example of Jesus Christ. How rapidly our civilization is changing! Not only on the surface but the depths of life have changed since the days of the Pilgrim Fathers and the Founders of the Republic! But after all the human heart is the same and the spiritual needs of men in this electrical age are the same as in that more slowly moving age. It seems to me we Christians surely must see that we have an obligation resting upon us that we too, in our generation, shall proclaim the fathomless riches of Christ and break the power of sin in men's lives by the power of God's grace. Sure, I am, of this: It is our duty to make the teachings and spirit of Christ prevail in human life. More Christianity is the supreme need of the world. In our international relations, in our political institutions, in our industrial situations as well as in our personal lives we need to have wrought into the very marrow of our bones the spirit of Jesus Christ and his teachings.
