WEDS TO ESCAPE
JAIL; PLEAS BRIDE
NEW YORK, Nov. 27. — Jacob Spielvoge, a taxi driver, was arrested when Lillian Porceloy charged him with failing to keep his promise to marry her. Jacobs couldn't furnish $500 bail so he was lodged in a dismal cell.
He began to get bored with life in the Tombs and suddenly made up his mind to marry Lillian. He was permitted to go to the municipal building and wed. Then he and his bride went to court and Jacob told the judge about the wedding.
As soon as the judge dismissed the case against him, Jacob ran to the street and rolled away in his taxi, leaving Lillian vainly imploring a policeman to run and catch him.

A carload failed to arrive as scheduled and a truck dispatched at 3 a.m. from Colton was also delayed. It happened there was not enough cement available locally to keep the crew going in the interim.

WOOD DRESS FAD IN
1923, SAYS CHEMIST
PITTSBNRGH, Nov. 27. —A wood dress will be the lad for the 1923 flapper, predicts Dr. Edward E. Slosson of the American Chemical Society. Chemists with test tubes, not dressmakers with needles, are to be the fashion experts, he says.
The problem of cutting a flare hem and keeping the hem straight will no longer be a puzzle. The flappers simply will get a skirt length shaped to flare at one end, and the silk worm will be old-fashioned.
Shoes of a chemical formula, which will be a substitute for leather (of wood, not paper), and a brilliant synthetic solitaire on the engagement finger also will be among the new correct styles, according to Dr Slosson.
