The Plain Dealer P ANAHEIM TIES FOR TOP OF AA LEAGUE As a fitting preamble to Tuesday's bond election to determine whether Anaheim is to have a real ball field along with other park improvements, Captain Buster Callan's crew went out yesterday afternoon and played an airtight game of bull, moving up beside Santa Monica at the top of the Double A league. It was the first defeat for the fast Santa Monica team and a rising vote of thanks is due "Howling Harry" Hughes who set down the seasiders with one lonely wallop, a three-bagger by Getz in the first frame. Only one other Santa Monican saw first base. That was Arnold, who attained that distinction when Jack Pendleton fumbled his roller because of the recently cultivated condition of the field. Arnold, however, promptly went out attempting to steal second, Captain Buster picking him off by several feet. "Howling Harry" retired eight of the seasiders by the whiff route, three of them in the seventh round. Farness was knicked safely seven times by the local retailers. With two out in the second, McDonald singled and stole second, scoring on Glen Callan's single. In the next inning, D. Bush walked, went to third on an out by D. D. Bush and scored when Woodward threw wide to catch Hughes at second in a double steal. Anaheim's third counter was chalked up in the fourth when Ramage singled, went to second on an out by Captain Buster, to third on Figueroa's muff of D. Bush's fly and scored on R. Bush's sacrifice fly. Anaheim goes to Brookside park next Sunday to meet their oldtime rivals, Loren Ury's Pasadena Elks. When Anaheim and Pasadena meet, it always a ball game bringing out S. The way Anaheim boys were going yesterday would have stopped most any team. Harry Hughes only allowed one hit and his teammates kicked away one chance, that a hard chance to Jack Pendleton. Dotty Bush looked a million in the field but was knocking high bat. He sorta got himself lost on the paths a time or two but he will make the Angel rookies hustle to beat him out. The Anaheim team is a strong combination, with enough young blood to give it dash and pep, and enough old heads to keep the machine running smoothly. Its a pretty safe bet that they will never be headed in this man's league. Read Plain Dealer Want Ads Phone 371-W O. K. O. K. This being "Turkey week," girls basket ball teams of the county will not have any league games. Anaheim girls, however, have two outside games lined up. They went to Whittler this afternoon to play Whittler college and Tuesday Montebello Hi sends a team. The local girls have met Whittler before. That aggregation always gives the Mother Colony girls a fight. Montebello is reputed to have a good team. EXPECT 6000 WILL SEE SANTA ANA & FULLERTON BATTLE Orange-Co.'s premier football game of the season; tomorrow's battle between Fullerton and Santa Ana, will be witnessed by a crowd approximately 6,000 it was estimated today. Thirty-three hundred reserved seats alone will have been held before the kickoff, while 2500 are expected in the grandstands. Eight hundred reserved seats tickets were placed on sale today in each city. The bleachers will be placed on the north side of the Fullerton High School field and will offer as good a view of the game as the grandstand High School officials declare. The space occupied by the bleachers were to have afforded parking space for 18 machines; and those holding parking reservations numbered 63 to 80 are asked to turn them in and get bleacher tickets in exchange. On the field nobody but officials, team members, attaches, the band and press representatives will be allowed. Coach "Shorty" Smith announced the Fullerton line-up today as follows: Shipkey, left end; Edwards, left tackle; Young, left guard; Wents center; Salter, right guard; White, right tackle; Hezmalhalch, right end Gregory, quarterback; Smith, left GRAPPLERS WILL CLASH Sargum Sprout Tonight is the night of the big fall but who is it that's going to fail? Roy Mabee says Padillo; Padillo says Roy Mabee. I find the fans about equally divided. Roy is a whale when he is right and he surely looks and acts as if he were in the best condition yet. His training has been road work entirely. He has not been on the mat since Padillo flopped him. He acts like a kid, just itching to be at some one. Padillo has worked out regularly at the Athletic Club in Los Angeles. He claims to have disposed of a few pounds of weight and expects to show the Anaheim fans more speed than ever. He is confident that he is the better man and expects to handle Roy with more ease than ever. Tickets have been selling good at the three places of distribution, the Elks Club, Anaheim Barber Shop and United Cigar Stand. There is to be a very good preliminary. Seats and admission are free to the ladies. Roy is doing all in his power to make this a great show. This match may not last as long as some others but I expect it to be a hum dinger while it does last. Everything is in readiness and the men are ready to go, so we are just waiting for big Bud McAlvy to say go. She STANFORD SURPRISE FOR GOLDEN BEARS By Sorgum Sprout Stanford was somewhat of a surprise for the Golden Bear, even tho the Bear did manl his way to a 28 to 0 score. The Bear was aware of having been in a very hard fight. Stanford was game and put up a great fight against heavy odds. She backed to the last ditch in the last few minutes of play, and only fell short of scoring by the width of the cross bar of the Calif. goal post. California, this year, will lose several of the most wonderful men that ever toated a pig skin in the west. With the great showing Stanford classic between the two great California schools may see the Golden Bear fighting for his life.
