BEST GRAPPLERS IN COUNTRY HEADING FOR SOUTH CALIF. (By Sargum Sprout) Just at present Los Angeles and vicinity is the mecca of all great and would-be great wrestlers. Never before has there been the interest manifested in the wrestling game as at present in the west. All the best men are facing west. Johnny Myers, light weight champion is coming soon to take on all comers. Joe Steckler, ex-world's heavyweight champion, and thought by many to be the greatest man of the day, although Strangler Lewis now holds the crown is anxious to wrestle here. Ad Santel, light heavyweight champion, defends his title in L. A. the 29th. With these great men there is coming a whole army of lesser lights. So you see what a great season of wrestling is before us, and if what importance she coming Mabee-Padullo match is to our town, Mabee has the game going good here. He is a square shooter and is giving his best. If he succeeds in throwing Padullo it will mean that we are to have many great wrestling shows. If he looses he says that he will quit and our chance for staging interesting wrestling shows will not be so good. Roy is in great shape and we believe he has a very good chance with the Italian lion. With the arena roofed, Anaheim has one of the best places to stage wrestling matches and boxing contests of any in the southinad. It is surely a cosy, comfortable home for such contests. Padullo returned to Anaheim today after some strenuous training at Los Angeles Athletic club in which he reduced his weight about five pounds from the 187 pounds which he carried against Mabee two weeks ago. He declared he is feeling fit and that he believes he will win again. WHITTIER CRUSHES TUSTIN BY 48 TO 0 Whittier crushed the light Tustin eleven yesterday at Whittier 48 to 0 in a lope-sided gridiron battle. The Tustin squad was outcharged and outplayed in every angle of the game. LOCAL GIANT WHITT Anaheim H. team will go to day to play the two teams are expected to be expelled The Ganahl-purchased a new ing. San Pedro was at first billed this Sunday, but will not be able to show up. Glendale has a fast line-up and will give the locals a chase. Anaheim lineup:—Gisler, cf; Huarte, ss; Muekenthaler, 1b; Lazzarroni, rf; Peltzer, 3b; Wetzel, c; Celays, 2b; T. Hund, 1f; Volz, p; Neja Richardsd, L. Hund and E. Hund will be in line to substitute. CHILDREN RECOVERING Little Miss Jessie Darnley and her brother, Billy, Jr., are recovering from an attack of dyphtheria. Both are able to sit up the greater portion of the day, and are well on the road to complete recovery. WHITTIER CRUSHES TUSTIN BY 48 TO 0 Whittier crushed the light Tustin eleven yesterday at Whittier 48 to 0 in a lope-sided gridiron battle. The Tustin squad was outcharged and outplayed in every angle of the game except spirit and fight where they were their conquerors' equals. Pendleton was the best ground gainer of the day for Whittier, making three and four yards almost always when demanded. Quarterback Sauber of Tustin played a headly and consistent game, many times giving the winners a scare because of his excellent open field work. FANS PAY TO SEE ACTION AND GET IT (By Sargum Sprout) We said that Billy Darnley had lined up a good fight card for last night's entertainment, but we never imagined that it would be better than the great card of a week before, but it was just as good if not better. Billy's trick athletes have the right idea at last, that the public pays to see action and the way those boys dished up action last night had us all about out. The interest was so great that anything like a close decision was booed and cheered at the same time. It was surely some show. The proceedings started off tame enough with a substitute bout between Danny Hererrea and Pete Pina. Danny is a game guy. He would take on Jess Willard if he had the chance. Pete Pina has about as much ability as any inexperienced boy that has shown at the local arena, but he just can not fight. Pete just can not stand up and face powder and he will not follow up. Pete had Danny going several times but Danny kept coming and laid Charles Neucomb's lemon away in the third. Lee Reece laid it all over Thad Warsaw in the second bolt. At that it was a bang up good bout. Reece was just too clever. Somebody said that Hank Gatten was a boxer. We don't know as Hank didn't have a chance to display his vintage, local's new chucher, may start off Sunday An interested spectator at Sunday afternoon's ball game between Santa Manico merchants, leaders of the Double A Winter league, and Anaheim Merchants in second place, but one game behind, will be Victor G. Lolly, well known local jeweler. The latter is a brother of Reginald Loly, manager of the Santa Manica leaders. Lindsay will pitch for the bay team and it is probable that Vintage, Anaheim's new twirler, will be given his first baptism of fire, altho 'Howling Harry' Hughes and Herb Salveson, the local veterans, will be on the bench for any emergency. Captain Buster Callan and Manager Billy Knott are determined to make every effort to put the skids under Santa Manica. the center of the rig, up come Hank's right for a light tap to Black's ear, then over came Hank's left for a stiff jab to the jaw, down went Blackie for the count of nine, then a little dancing and another left and another count of nine, then some more dancing a nother jab and the fight was over. Gatten hadn't even limbed up so he must be all right when he really fights. Those colored lads, Cyclone Johnson and Blackie Rice met as per schedule and fight, gosh ding if they didn't fight all over the ring. A rip taring rip roaring fight it was. It was called a draw. Mr. Blackie left our fair city in a huff for he claimed of being robbed twice, when in reality Mr. Rice was very lucky in receiving a draw, as the Cyclone had a narrow margin last night. Scotty Diest and Young Terry went out to show the broad world that the Rice-Johnson was not the only fighting team. This was the rip roaringness scrap yet staged. We changed our mind concerning Diest. He is a tough Nombra. The Terrible Terry had him in a bad way at the LOCAL GIRLS PLAY WHITTIER MONDAY Anaheim H. The bolshevik government's law against the sale, possession, consumption or even suspicion of "hard liquor" resulted in 2700 cases on the court calendar for the month before last. The police brought them in droves, these violators of Russia's "18th amendment," and many still languish uncomfortably in jail as overworked justices consider the cases of first comers. But Russia law works swiftly. During the first seven months of 1922 the manufacturers and sellers of "samagonko," as the home-made vodka, made out of grain is called, were fined a maximum sum of 500,-000,000 rubles or up to three months' imprisonment.
