BATTLERS OF NOTE ON ATHLETIC CLUB FIGHT CARD TONITE
(By Sargum Sprout)
Tonight Billy Darnley is staging what looks to be another great fight card. Cycline Johnson and Blackie Rice ought to pack the house. These two colored boys surely did put up one whale of a battle last week. They were so evenly matched that there was not a kinky hair between them. They were not satisfied and the fans are perfectly willing that they should try conclusions again.
If Kid Mende is the kid of old the new comer from Pittsburg will have the fight of his young life.
Scotty Diest is butting into a hard nut in Young Terry of Whittier. Terrible Terry is capable of ending a fight at any time as he packs a powerful wallop.
Jack Burman and Lee Reese should put up a very interesting bout. Both boys are clever.
The rest of the card listens good, but we are aching to see Mr. Cyclone Johnson and Mr. Blackie Rice settle their little argument.
BROKEN LEG STOPS CHAMPION JUMPER
Vernon "Bud" Nash, former Huntington Beach star athlete and champion broad jumper, is laid up with a compound fracture of his leg as a result of a motorcycle collision. The injury will not permit him to be about much before a month and will keep him out of athletics for a year or more. Thus "Buds" athletic ambitions have come to an end.
Nash has held the state broad jump championship for three successive years.
Nash has been one of the stars at Occidental college.

MABEE RESPONDING TO LIGHT TRAINING PLAN FOR PADILLO
(By Sargum Sprout)
Roy Mabee is responding to his light training program. If he holds to his present schedule, man, what a wildcat he will be by next Monday evening! He is just aching to face big Jack again, and, believe me, Jack is welcome to the job of entertaining the rancher wrestler. If Roy feels as well next Monday evening as he does right now, Padillo will think that a young cyclone has turned loose about him.
We have never talked to Roy when he was so bubbling over with pep.
This match is causing much interest throughout this entire section.
LOCAL GIRLS WIN FROM ORANGE 15-13
In a League basketball game last night, Anaheim girls defeated Orange Hi 15 to 13. At the end of the first ten minutes of playing, Orange was running away from the locals 5 to 1. Anaheim rallied and the second third ended with Anaheim leading by one point.
Helen Daly and Frances Adams were the stars. Anaheim girls did not get into the spirit of the game and their regular team work until the middle of the fray.
Miss Porter, coach of the Orange girls attributed their defeat to the fact that most of her girls are new this year. Miss Logan of Whittier College referred.
Anaheim players: Helen Daly and Evelyn Cordes, forwards; Ella Cook and Frances Adams, centers; Mae Requarth and Irma Young, guards. Anaheim was not forced to use substitutes.
Orange line-up: Cora Sincke, Alice Werterman, forwards; Esther Jensen and Erma Eltiste, centers; Addie Settle and Hilda Unzelman, guards; Subs. Sophia Ehlen, Agnes Durbin and Elvira Borchard.
Anaheim is in line for the championship again this year as they have met and defeated the two hardest opponents.
HUNTINGTON BEACH LOSES TO S. A. 40-0
"Spud" Morrison's Santa Ana football team ran rough shod over the Huntington Beach eleven yesterday in the final game of the Orange League and piled up a 40 to 0 score. Morrison used 25 men his regulars for a few minutes in the first quarter, then sent in his second and third string men.
The lineup: Santa Ana — Gardener, le; Thole, it; Thompson, ig; Stilens, c; Duncan, rg; Coulson, rt; Coffman, re; Wilcox, q; Le Bard, lh; Luck, rh; Jabs, fb.
Huntington Beach — Kemper, le; Moomow, it; Seltzer, lg; Ross, c; Berry, rg; Cook, rt; Casad, re; Hoxlie, q; Seltzer, lh; Nichols, rh; Nash, rg.

CLUB SMOKER HAS FOUR FAST BOUTS
A classy fistless mama was served Fullerton Club last night at a "Smoker". Billy Darnley, local club manager, and Doc Clancy formerly of the local Elks Gym, were in charge of the athletic program, four fast bouts immensely pleased.
In the feature event, Joe Chaney won a decision over the Texas Kid after four rounds of fast and clever ring work. Tex Jones beat Jack Burman in what looked like a good draw. The Marsaw' and Johnny Hale went to it for another four rounds in what was a whirl wind bout. Here the jduges again got mixed up when they gave the white boy the palm. It should have been a draw. Johnny Nandes and Charley Dement slammed and banged each other all around the ring for a good draw. Herman Miller of Fullerton, referred the first three bouts while Billy Darnley took charge of the main go.
Doc Clancy made an excellent announcement, his silver-toned tin-novice being the hit of the evening. About 300 members and friends attended.
S. A. GIRLS DEFEAT HUNTINGTON BEACH
Santa Ana girls basketball team defeated Huntington Beach last evening at Santa Ana, 22 to 4. Miss Croft, Santa Ana forward, shot 10 of the 11 goals. The Santa Ana girls have excellent team work and played a fast and brilliant game. Neither team used substitutes.
Santa Ana line-up: Frances Croft and Josephine Crookshank, forwards; Sallie Cochran and Axia Goodykoontz, centers; Ruth Finley and Mabel Cooke, guards.

TAKES·BRAINS TO STAY AT PINNACLE
(By Sargum Sprout)
Battling Sikl, the French colored gent who knocked out Carpentier a few weeks back, busted quick. The big smoke could not stand prosperity. It was a case of man with a lot of natural ability and a shriveled think tank. In all lines of sport, the men at the top are endowed with an active, well working brain. Gay life along the great white ways is not a brain builder, and no man can play the white lights and stay at the head of any branch of athletics. Sikl won the European title not by science but by being able to withstand punishment. There is nothing in his career that would denote intelligence.
