OIL NEWS In This Section Plain LEADING NEW VOL. XXVI—NO. 5. World’s Biggest High Oil S. O. MAKING 4150 BBLS. 35.4 PCT. McDONALD’S—By Mys With Oil Operators To Santa Fe Springs and the Standard Oil Co. goes the honor of having the greatest producer of high gravity oil in America today. The Standard Oil Co. completed South Whittier Community No. 4 at 4644 and broil in a 4150 barrel producer of 35.4 gravity oil. This is the greatest producer of 35.4 gravity oil in the country today and gives the Standard Oil Co. an enviable place among the producing companies of the West, and the Santa Fe Springs field in So. Cal. The bringing in of this wonderful well makes the Standard’s South Whittier Community property look like one of the greatest oil properties in California. The big producer also enriches the value of the Amalgamated Oil Co.’s Butterworth lease on the north and the big Meyer property of the Union Oil Co. on the Gravity oil. This is the greatest producer of 35.4 gravity oil in the country today and gives the Standard Oil Co. an enviable place among the producing companies of the West, and the Santa Fe Springs field in So. Cal. The bringing in of this wonderful well makes the Standard's South Tritter Community property look like one of the greatest oil properties in California. The big producer also enriches the value of the Amalgamated Oil Co.'s Butterworth lease on the north and the big Meyer property of the Union Oil Co. on the south. Meyer 3 attracted some attention four years ago when it was brought in a 10 barrel well at 4595. The Standard Community well is 100 feet deeper and it is fair to assume that the Union will be able to duplicate the high gravity wonder by going on down. The bringing of the new California western wonder was superintended by Ralph Winger, and the tanner in which he completed the well, and put it on production classes the well as a master piece of petroleum production. The Coalinga-Mohawk's well on the north side of Santa Fe Springs is being watched close for oil showings. Drilling is now at 5050 feet and the indications for production cannot be said to be especially encouraging. The Coalinga Mohawk scored a producer on the south side of the field by bringing in a 1250 barrel well on the Batson property. Batson 1 was finished at 3818 feet and is a flowing producer. The Fullerton Oil Co. had hoped to put its Bermudez No. 1 at 090 on a production this week, but failure to shut water has halted the test. Bermudez No. 1 at 4090-4136 showed some indications of production and for this reason a try out was considered advisable. A number of wells on the north east said of the field art awaiting something to happen. Those who have waited patiently for developments on Hamilton 4 will probably be rewarded before the end of the week. Actual drilling out of the cement was begun several days ago and a water test will determine something of interest. At 4663 the core barrel samples of Hamilton 4 showed an oil sand that leaves little doubt as to the outcome of the well. The McKeon Drilling Co. on Hamilton 4 did one of the nicest pieces of drilling work that has ever been accomplished in the southern field. The Union Oil Company's Flood well at 47000 feet is not showing any encouragements of oil. Core barrel samples show brown sticky shale. Production on the extreme northwest section of the field begins to look a little out of the question and very deep. Redondo now has five producing wells. The aggregate production of this new field is barely 1000 barrels. So far the development work has not resulted in anything big and there is an air of discouragement about the gravity oil. The Chansler-Canfield's discovery well Del Amo No. 1 made the biggest showing of any well in the field, a showing that has not been duplicated. The Amalgamated Oil Co. completed a 200 barrel well on the aWison property at 3530. The Fullerton Oil Co. got a duplicate producer on the Waddell at 3508 feet. The long dry spell at Montebello was broken by the Shell Co. bringing in a 250 barrel well on the Scott-Arnold lease. The producer was finished at 3470. The outlook for the Comanche Oil Co. getting a producer at Montebello looks better now since 4344 feet of hole has been drilled and the well put down to the sand that made the St. Helens' Eggleston a big well. The Standard's wild cat well at Buena Park, Mitchell No. 1 is now drilling at close to 4900 and to date there have been no oil showings of any special importance. Buena Park's chances for getting on the potroleum map so Californians slipping. The Wiley now the deepest northwest outpost well is reporting oil sand at 3650 and is looking rather good. The Wiley is located near the pioneer well, the Petroleum Midway fields No. 1. MORE MAPS READY AT C. B. BERGER CO C. B. Berger Co., realtors in the First National Bank-bldg., have received another large consignment of vest-pocket maps of Anaheim streets and roads in the vicinity of Los Angeles. BREA, Oct. 18.(Spl.)—The Pageant planned for last evening was postponed on account of other community affairs, the date to be announced later. As the teachers of Brea are attending the Grammar schools institute in Fullerton today, Thursday and Friday, there will be no more school this week. The Orange Blossom confectionery which has been re-decorated and is under a new management, is almost ready for the opening. The place is very inviting and will make a favorable impression on its patrons. The Army goods store has moved into the new Rane building on South Pomona-st, next to the post office and is adding their line of goods making a nice business place. Mrs. W. D. Gibson, of South Redwood-st, is improving from the accident which happened when she fell from her porch a week ago, breaking her shoulder. SCHERMERHORN NOT P. M. CANDIDATE C. S. The best that can do is to look over that forest, off derricks and pick out some of the "high spots." The field now registers over a 100 producing wells, and the daily average is close to 100,000 barrels. Some 260 rigs now dot the field representing an investment of a million and a half dollars. The value of oil produced daily is approximately two hundred thousand dollars. The investment will not be long in coming back. One of the best pieces of work done at Long Beach last week was the recovery of the W. H. Fisher well and putting it on productbn at 2500 barrels. The well was drilled to 3186 two months ago and came in a water well. Cutting off the 6,114 Three Offen There is addage tha it pours al is running great sales as man deluge of tainty. The dalty, artistic shop, with that magnetic touch of emotion that we cannot hope to find in the larger establishments. This express herself in decoration, in arrangement and in the most shows what is best, what will be the most fastidious and what will you must come with me for a visit to a charming little shop—the home of pretty things for milady. It is McDonald's, and the number is 103 South Clementine street, it is next to the New Postoffice. Walking into the quaint surroundings, one will immediately understand that the beauty of the place is due to the feminine design. The slogan of McDonald's is "Just a Little Different" and after a visit to the place it can be readily seen that they live up to their slogan. We would say it is "Delightfully Different." Colors so soft as to soothe, make us feel at home in a most gratifying manner and our eyes travel fastly from one object of charm to another. Rich rugs of mulberry shade lie upon the floor; the walls are of a rich cream color and a strenched border of pretty hats follows high above. The cabinets are of battleship gray; a dressing table of the same coloring is on one side and on the other is a wall mirror with its mulberry valance. Looming up in a charming background are two beautiful velour curtains of that exquisite mulberry shade, put there not only to decorate, but to guard the handsome things which repose behind them. The show cases, the frail hat and dress stands and all the rest are in perfect harmony with this most harmonious atmosphere. Mrs. H. E. McDonald is the pleasant proprietor and she has had much experience in her line—for thirteen years in the East. All of the dalty things to gladden the feminine heart are there—the beautiful and stylish hats. The handsome and delicately moulded lingeries, every bit of it the product of this busy little shop; sportwear of gorgeous and useful sweaters and skirts, fur chokers, beads, ear rings, hosery, purses, fancy garters, and last but not all, our eyes fall upon some pretty gowns that betray their newness by unexpected drapes, sleeves of remarkable proportions, bright color touches, and distinctive trimming of embroidery, beads and fagoting. In such materials as satin crepe Renee crepe, Poiret twill, Canton, Rashanara or Lizard skin crepe. One may find a Gown for afternoon or evening. One of the best pieces of work done at Long Beach last week was the recovery of the W. H. Fisher well and putting it on production at 2500 barrels. The well was drilled to 3186 two months ago and came in a water well. Cutting off the 6114 production string at 2570 the well was re- cemented with 81-4 telescoping over the oil string, a perfect water shut was secured and now the one time water well is putting 2500 barrels of clean oil into storage. The Henderson Petroleum Syndicate got another big increase in production completing two wells. Hoover No. 1 at 3424 started off producing 900 barrels. The Irene came in a 1500 barrel well at 3420 and in a few days dropped down to 600. The anxious days for Herwjck seem to have ended. At 4170 core barrels samples found sufficient evidence of oil to warrant the discontinuance of drilling at 4200. A string of 81-4 was set at 4170 and when the cement plug is drilled out a good showing of oil is expected. A.T. Jergins will be cutting down the tax rate of Long Beach again soon. The Jergins Syndicate is making fast time drilling its second well and barring accidents this well should be on production before Thanksgiving. Well No. 4 has been spudded in, and this should be ready to present to the city about Christmas time. City No. 1 the big producer is holding steadily at 2600 barrels. Irving Augur added another well to his list of producers by bringing in the Jackpot a 1500 barrel well. Jackpot No. 1 at 3350 is producing 2600 gravitoll and making clean production. The second largest individual production to be developed on Signal Hill is that of the Petroleum Midway. The Petroleum Midway's productions is running better than 16,000 barrels daily. Lewis No. 1 is P.M.'s big well making better than 3000 barrels. The famous 50-50 is making 2700 barrels every day. At the time the 50-50 was located this part of the field was considered good pickle. The Stroup & Barnes Furniture Co., announce the opening of their gigantic Removal Sale which will continue during the period prior to their moving into the elaborate new home of the firm in the Kraemer building. The entire stock of home furnishings has been subject to substantial price reductions, and an excellent opportunity is offered for all to supply their needs in furniture at a saving. With Oil Producers A few months ago a lot of people were ready at ring down the curtain on Huntington Beach and call it a completed field. The outlook for Huntington Beach was perhaps never brighter than it is at the present time. That the field is forging ahead is evidenced by the fact that the daily production has reached the almost unbelievable mark of 50,000 barrels, the quality of the oil has increased thirty percent, and there are a dozen or more producers doing better than 1000 barrels. West of the Holly Sugar Factory the leading triumph of the week was completed by the Bell of Montebello. Drilling Von Arsdell No. 1 to 3265 the Bell brought in a 1400 barrel well. The Bell of Montebello started operating in the old Montebello field four years ago, drilled a deep dry excellent opportunity is offered for all to supply their needs in furniture at a saving. The Petroleum Midway’s Fields well is perhaps the most interesting of the group, and at 3500 feet, it is drilling in hard sand. Ramsey Bros. of Oklahoma will resume operations on Signal Hill. Recent developments on the east section of the field, namely the Walker-Western and San Martínez makes its obligatory on the part of the Ramsey interests to resume drilling. A grade is being made on Reservoir Hill for Municipal No. 2. The Sandburg Petroleum Company is pleased with the well the Superior Oil company and W.M. Keck brought in at Miller No. 1. This well was put on production six years ago at 3700 feet, but failed to make a commercial producer. Drilling 55 feet more hole resulted in an 800 barrel well. The United Oil company is having its share of rea ltrouble in getting its share of real trouble in get-Davis No. 1 and getting this well on production. Twice the 8 1-4 casing was cemented at 3460 and failed to shut off water. The well is standing for the third time. Hundreds read Plain Dealer class ads daily. West of the Holly Sugar Factory the leading triumph of the weak was completed by the Bell of Montebello. Drilling Von Aradell No. 1 to 3265 the Bell brought in a 1400 barrel well. The Bell of Montebello started operating in the old Montebello field four years ago, drilled a deep dry hole. Moving from Motebello to Huntington the little struggling oil company has made a stake. The Shell Co. shared in the deep production honors by bringing in a 1350 barrel well on the Ashto lease at 4545. Ashton 5 is the deepest big producer at Huntington Beach and is significant of future great things for the field in the deep sands. Ashton 5 at 3843 began to show oil, and with the exception of a few shale breaks the formation was all oil sand. Some 680 feet of slotted production casing was installed in the well to take care of this great body of sand. Oil was seen on the sump hole of the Union Oil’s Downey Community well in few days ago and started some excitement. The oil was hauled there in truck to be used to wash out a core barrel that was stuck in the hole while trying for samples at 3890 feet. The fact of the matter is there have been no showing of any importance in the Downey well yet. James Lasley has the copy write on "My sump hole's full of oil." Drilling at Athens on the Hill is going ahead splendidly. The Potter Oil Co.’s wildcat is making hole at 3700 feet. Showings so far do not encourage or condemn. No well in So.
