FIVE DRAWS LAST NIGHT IN 6 BOUTS
(By Sargum Sprout)
LAST night was draw night out to the fight arena. Five draw decisions drew much applause from the largest house of the season. Harry Lee, the Huntington Beach husky, was the only person to break away from the draw decision and he drew the winners end of the main event.
All in all it was a Joe dandy show, with the best crowd in attendance I have seen at the old night in Boys.
The show started off with a bang. Danny Herreres, the sombre little gent from Santa Ana went out and out pointed Charley Dement in the first round. Dement slugged himself to even terms in the second round and carried away the third by a good margin. Danny took the fourth and a draw decision. This was one off the best fights of the evening and was a whale for a curtain raiser.
Bill Brady and Dick Gard of Huntington Beach subink for Max Ryan were the next attraction. This Gard person started off like molasses after a heavy freeze. The only action he developed in the first round was when he hit the canvas. Bill Brady, Doc Chancey's find and the pride of somewhere, looked a million in the first round. He had two knockdowns to his credit and his man almost out.
The second round saw Gard warming up and he held the round even with great slugging. Bill landed the most blows in the following rounds, but spoiled his work by eliciting and hanging on. Bill did not relish being a receiver for Gard's punches that carried the kick of an army mule with them. Brady looks like a comer. If he had been experienced, he would have put Gard out in the first round.
Tobby Montoya looked state in his bout with Art Springer. His speed and footwork were sorely looking especially in the first three rounds. Springer ran away with the first two rounds while Montaya was wondering what it was all about. Tobby woke up a little in the third and held the round about even. Tobby produced a flash of form and some heavy punches in the fourth one blow up-rooting Art for a moment that carried him into a draw.
Young Terry ran into a clever boxer, Joe Garecia of Los Angeles, subbing for Kid Weber. Joe's blow failed to worry Terry who was much

Young Terry ran into a clever boxer, Joe Gareca of Los Angeles, subbing for Kid Weber. Joe's blows failed to worry Terry who was much the stronger of the town, but they landed much oftener than did Terry's. Joe kept away from Terry's sleep producer and looked to have had the bout tucked away on points but the judges were in the habit of drawing so a draw it was.
Joe Gareca of Santa Barbara played a waiting game with Johnny McGraw in the semi-mindup, and proved good enough to keep away from Johnny's heavy artillery. Johnny had to do all the leading in the first two rounds. Joe took the third by fast clever work, the fourth went to Johnny by some heavy slugging. Again a draw.
One Round Andrews the bow-legged smoke from Frisco made a fare of the main event. Harry Lee tore into him like a tiger, but the Smoke pawed the blows away, acted groggy, staggering about the ring as if almost out. Andrews never did cut loose with a blow. He used a few short stiff uppercuts in the fourth that rocked Lee's head. Lee was willing but could not reach through the darkeyes guard to do much damage.
As an exhibition of the manly art, the main event was a frost, as an exhibition of good acting it was a scream. Any way, the crowd took it as a boke and all were happy. It was a little bit of comedy after a strenuous evening. O yes, Lee was given the decision. We also forgot to mention the beautiful matadores breaches Art Springer displayed when he asked for a returned match with T. Montoya. Those breaches put Art in a class by himself and had the Spanish people present green-eyed with envy.
