Tuesday, October 3, 1922 DOUBLE MAIN EVENT AT ARENA FRIDAY A Crackerjack card is being prepared by Manager Billy Darnley of the Anaheim Athletic Club for his weekly offering Friday evening at the arena on the Sugar Factory Grounds. Darnley is lining up a double main event that alone ought to pack 'em in as well as the usual number of preliminaries and also a special event which promises to be the real bright spot on the card. Our own Joe Chaney will be pitted against a tough hombre in Young Attell who is said to be a snappy performer from the Bay City up north, while Scott Deist, a lad who made a host of friends for himself at the local club a couple of weeks ago when he gave Mike Oleary the right of his life. Deist is matched with another lad from up north state who calls himself Joe Thomas and who is rated a classy ringman at his weight. These two bouts promises to be all that is of them and fight bugs around these parts are due for the treat of the season. Chancey and Defat have shown that they are ready, willing ring workers and if Thomas and Attell live up to advance notices then two red-hot battles can safely be looked forward too. Johnny McGraw will meet Packy McMullen in the special event. MAT CHALLENGES FLYING THICK AND FAST THESE DAYS By Sargum Sprout From the way challenges are being hurled, the preliminary to the Mabee-Miller wrestling match will be a hot one. Vic Baden is out with a challenge to Al Sparkes. Vic's easy victory in the preliminaries to the Mabee-Santel match must have given Vic lots of confidence. Al has not wrestled lately, but it is rumored he has been in training and is in good trim. Another challenge comes from Los Angeles. Carl Johnson, wishes to challenge Young Paddock, the Iowa wrestler who passed on the challenge. NEW TODAY FOR SALE—Unused ticket over Santa Fe to Newton, Okla. limit Oct. 31. POSITION WANTED lady stencipher an From the way challenges are being hurried, the preliminary to the Mabee-Miller wrestling match will be a hot one. Carl Johnson, wishes to challenge Young Paddock, the Iowa wrestler who passed up the challenge to the wide world last week. Johnson is a 150 pounder and offers to put up a side bet of $100 to $500. If either of these matches can be arranged, the fans are in for a real contest in the preliminaries. Mabee starts working out today. He has lined up Vic Baden his brother, Jack Mabee, and a good 200-pounder to condition on. That line up should put Roy in the best of shape. Miller will arrive in Anaheim in the next two or three days and wants wrestling partners. He may be like them tough, the tougher the better. There is a chance for the local strong boys. Anyway the fans are in for a great evening, Oct. 10th. K. OF C. WILL PLAY FOR STATE TITLE At a meeting in Los Angeles last evening a Knights of Columbus winter baseball league was formed with eight teams in So. Cal. A 20-week schedule will open Sunday, Oct. 22. The winning So. Cal team will receive a large silver trophy from Snyoulding's and be sent to the state Knights of Columbus convention in Sacramento next May to play the northern champions for the Calif. title. Because of the absence of a local playing field since the high school diamond has been plowed up for football and the city park is not yet developed, the strong Anaheim team now being formed with Lawrence Muckenthaler as captain will play at least the first half of the schedule away from home. By that time it is hoped at least one field will be available. The opening day's schedule is Anaheim Long Beach, Los Angeles at Santa Ana, Santa Monica at Pasadena and Riverside at Los Angeles No. 2. Another meeting will be held Oct. 16 to further details of the league. G. G. The balance of the loan will bear interest at the rate of 4 per cent per annum. In the event of sickness or financial inability to pay, the contract holder is granted from three to six months suspension of payments, either before or after the loan has been granted. HARRY E. SCOTT District Agent 123 N. Los Angeles St. Anaheim, Cal. SEBASTIANS OPEN BIG SALE THURS. Celebrating its success five years after establishment in Anaheim, Sebastian Bros. will open on Thursday an Achievement sale at which some remarkable values will be offered. The store has been expanding and growing rapidly ever since it opened its doors here. "Merit is the trade mark of success—Value is the True test of cheapness"—this was the motto with which the store set out and has continued. Now the firm has altered the entire rear of its store and opened a modern ready-to-wear department, where the same excellent service and complete lines are offered. This addition is as notable as any that the two partners—W. J. Sebastian and J. P. Sebastian—have made, and makes the store's facilities even more complete. It is to the intelligent buyer that the store has directed its attention, with economy as its watchword. With reasonable rents, particularly as compared with those of the metropolis and other of the larger cities, with the capital to buy in large quantities and the enterprise and energy to effect quick turnovers of goods, Sebastian Bros. have been able to carry out their policies in a wonderfully successful way. G. LIGHTWEIGHTS COMING THURSDAY There has been a change in the football schedule for Thursday afternoon. Garden Grove will send its lightweight team over to meet Anaheim, in place of Tustin. This is only Tustin's first year in the game and it has only one team. The game will be called at 2:30. The Tustin team will meet Anaheim on the local field Friday at 3:45 Coach Murray's men are lighter than Coach Ray Elliott's but with lots of practise will give the local boys a good showing. Saturday's game put the blue and gold warriors next to a number of good plays and they received some excellent practice. The two teams will be about evenly mated, and a good battle with thrills will be expected. The Anaheim line-up will be practically the same. Captain Al Hile is putting his men through some hard work this week and they will be in fine shape for the opening of the league. ANAHEIM BOWLERS GO TO HOLLYWOOD Anaheim bowlers get underway tonight at the Hollywood city tourney. The local five-man team is composed of Flesner, Hazzard, Efker, Dugas and McGaugh. They will also roll singles. Baseball Standings PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE Yesterday's Results No games played. —Rent that spare room with a Plain Dealer class ad. With reasonable rents, particularly as compared with those of the metropolis and other of the larger cities, with the capital to buy in large quantities and the enterprise and energy to effect quick turnovers of goods, Sebastian Bros have been able to carry out their policies in a wonderfully successful way. Their store, conveniently located on West Center-st, the center of the business section, draws business not only from Anaheim, but from the entire trading territory. Patrons find themselves able to buy such a variety of goods that they are not obliged to visit several stores to meet their shopping needs. Sebastian Bros. have been known during their five years here for conspicuously fair dening, and hence have been able to secure and hold a steady patronage, as well as patronage that is not particular to any one store. BOY'S FUNERAL AT 2 P. M. SATURDAY Funeral rite for Dean Simons, who died yesterday morning after a seven-week illness, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Huddell Under-taking parlor. Rev. W. W.
