U.S. TO BEAR COST OF WATER SURVEY Members of the U.S. Geological survey, possibly from Riverside, are likely to make the preliminary survey of water resources of Orange county, according to J. F. Ahlborn, chairman of the Water Conservation committee, of the Associated Chembers of Commerce. Ahlborn said that the supervisors had indicated they would defray the cost of such an investigation practically without limit. A committee of the board already has been appointed to look into the matter. Asked whether there would not be some difficulty in securing the federal surveyors even though they are paid, Ahlborn said he thought not. The matter is expected to come up again at the first fall meeting of the associated chambers. MANY APPLY FOR BERGER CO. MAPS The offer of C.B. Berger Co. to give away an attractive vest-pocket folder containing latest map of Anaheim on one side of sheet and of roads between Anaheim and Los Angeles on the other has fairly swamped the reality firm. Yesterday there was a steady stream of applicants for very practical little maps, about 2000 being given out. The demand continued today and the firm has sent in a rush order for more. Several applicants today were "repeat orders" who explained they had sent to castern friends the ones they got yesterday. POTTERS BACK HOME H. L. Potter, of Hoogalm, Wash., has returned to Anaheim to reside after an absence of about one year. Mrs. Potter came back some time ago, but Mr. Potter, being instructor of music in the schools of that city, could not leave sooner. NAB DRIVER GOING 45 MILES IN CITY A man giving his name as Lainer Crossly of San Gabriel was arrested last night by Louis Vokali, traffic officer, on the charge of speeding 45 miles an hour within the city limits. He had been chased by the county traffic officers, who failed to catch him, at 60 miles an hour, it was alleged. He put up bail of $15,and went on his way a bit more moderately. Judge Brown is undetermined whether to issue a warrant for him. The trouble seems to be too many open mines and not enough open minds. One of the saddest things the American tourist sees in Europe is the bottom of his purse. Completed at 4696 the well stands for a record in depth, quality and quantity of oil producing, and is one of the greatest "finds" of the year. Butterworth No. 3, the phenomenal well that puts the north side of the Santa Fe Springs field in new and tremendous favor, was put on production a 2650 barrel well, producing a 34.4 gravity oil. At the present time there is no well in the west that is producing such a quantity of high gravity oil at the 4700 foot level. The big well is a complete surprise in that the Butterworth property was not considered capable of such big production. The big well is just what is needed to help out the production of light and refinable oils. Santa Fe Springs is teeming with surprises, one after another. The Cooperative Oil Syndicate went on production last week at a little better than 1200 barrels, the depth of completion being 3808. Production figures this week shows the well has more than doubled its production by 400 barrels. Jack Doyle broke into the list of Santa Fe Springs producers with a 1500 barrel well. Completing Clune-Doyle No. 1 at 3804 a nice well producing 31 gravity oil was brought in. The General Petroleum Company had another successful week at the Springs, the success being measured with two more big producers aggregating 5000 barrels. The General Petroleum now has seven producers at the Springs and from them is getting a production of 21,000 barrels daily. The two completions for the week were Santa Fe No. 68 a 2550 barrel well at 3873, and Santa Fe No. 89 a 2500 barrel producer at 3854. Core barrel samples takes from Hamilton at 4698 leave little doubt about the outcome of this well. The samples show a nice oil sand that carries high gravity oil. The showing that turned the tide and put new hope into the McKeon Drilling company commenced appearing at 4660 and continued appearing at 4680. G. & L. LEASE G. & L. Ahlborn today reiterated his statement of the need of additional clerks and carriers when his attention was called to various delays in delivery. Ahlborn said that the present force has not been changed since the postoffice moved and in fact is the same size as two years ago, during which time the volume of mail has nearly doubled. Regarding the delay in mails between Anaheim and La Habra he said that such matter had to go to Los Angeles and come back again. The facilities of Los Angeles itself were very inadequate. Ahlborn added that in view of many changes of address and the rapid growth of the city, residents would lose no time in making known changes at the local postoffice. The showing that turned the tide and put new hope into the McKeon Drilling company commenced appearing at 4660 and continued to where drilling was stopped at 4698. A string of 8 1-4 will be set at 4656. There is an opinion current that the McKeon Drilling Company passed up a showing at 3800 feet. There is nothing to this opinion or contention because core barrel samples were taken every ten feet from 3800 feet on. It seems that because the McKeon Drilling Co. did not tell all they knew about the well every day, the knockers got busy and put in a lot of hard work. The showings and indications now point to something good and there is little doubt that the drilling contract company will come into its own when the well is finished. The Petroleum Midway Company Ltd has taken over all the holdings and properties of the Western Star Oil company. The Western Star Oil company retires from the field as both a developer and a producer and here after all wells listed under the Western Star will be included in the development reports of the Petroleum Midway. Just before the merger was effected the Western Star completed its Weaver No. 1 at Santa Fe Springs a 1000 barrel well. Weaver 1 was finished at 3680 and flows. Wm. Loftus one of California's pioneer operators has joined with the Federal Drilling company and formed what will be known as the Anchor Oil company. A sumptuous stayed at noon, foll social time and The following The Holly Oil company had the pleasure of bringing in something worth while when it completed No. 3 at 4317 a 1000 barrel well. This is the first real success the Holly Oil company has had in the Huntington Beach field and will undoubtedly result in the company increasing its drilling program. Wm. Kammerer is in charge of the Holly's operations and the success of the big well reflects credit to whom credit is due. The Republic Petroleum Co. figured in last weev's new Huntington Beach production with a 475 barrel well at No. 2. The Republic redrilled No. 2 and finished it a second time at 3185. The Shell Company is getting ready to make it Newlands-Borchard property produce some big wells like the Standard Oil's Surf 2. The Shell Newlands No. 1 has been moved to a new location and drilling will start at once. The first well abandoned as a dry hole at Huntington Beach is to be redrilled and deepened. The General Petroleum Community No. 1 property has been purchased by Messrs. Merl-dith, Taylor and Macklin, local Huntington Beach men who will clean out the old well and drill it deeper. The claim of the new owners is that the tSandard's Surf 2 well proves that the General Petroleum at 4300 stopped drilling on top of the oil sand, and that a few hundred feet more hole will achieve the desired results.
