COUNTY MUSIC CLUB ANNUAL AFFAIR IS FINE THE annual banquet given by the Music Teachers Ass'n of Orange county, last night in St. Ann's Inn included scores of brilliant artists and music lovers who contributed to or heard a program of rare excellent. With Mr. Clarence Gustlin as hostmaster, and Mrs. Olliemae Enlowr Matthews chairman of the program committee, everything went along merrily. After greetings by Ellis Rhodes, of Santa Ana and Anaheim, and president of the club, Mr. Gustlin was introduced as one who had given unsparingly of his energies in organizing and maintaining the club with its success as his single reward. Mr. Gustlin spoke briefly of its aims and benefits. Mrs. Hazel Humphreys, of Santa Ana, accompanied by Mr. Earl Fraser, at the piano, sang two numbers. An address of congratulation to the Orange co Ass'n was given by Abbic Notton Jamison, who remarked upon the club's phenomenal growth and said it carries the banner for increase of membership over any other musical organization in California. Mr. Frank Colby editor of the Pacific Coast Musician, spoke on Co-operation, and of its advantage in furthering growth and development of individual musicians. Mr. Leon Eckles, accompanied by Mr. Fraser, sang the prologue from "Pagliacci," with his usual ability. Mr. L. E. Behymer, of the Philharmonic, Los Angeles, whose presence and place on the program was a real treat, said in part that in having recently visited all of the managers of operas, orchestras and artists of the United States, he was convinced that the present year is to be the greatest of all musical years in history. More appreciation of great artists is being shown than ever before, and especially in the inland town and cities more removed from musical centers. He cited the fact that Arizona in the past year, showed more growth in musical membership in musical clubs than any other state in the union. Mr. Gustlin then called upon the officers of the hostess club, Mr. Rhodes, president, Mrs. Ruth Seitz, Anaheim. Simpson, and of the two dozen ladies who have joined the department, twenty were present and enthusiastically participated in this first meeting of the organization. Miss Kate Rae, whose ability is recognized, was chosen leader, her duty being to give a hour's conduct at each meeting. Miss Rae was instructor in history for years in Santa Ana schools and takes up her pleasant duty with heart and soul. A fifteen minute discussion will follow each talk and fifteen minutes will be devoted to current events. No refreshments will be served, this being purely a study club. The topic yesterday took the members from the origin of history to the historic age, about 1500 B.C. The great east and great west movements were included in the study hour and discussion.
