SCIENCE SECTION PLANS WORK FOR AUTUMN DAYS AFTER a vacation during the warm months, the Domestic Science section of the Anaheim Ebell club held a very enthusiastic meeting yesterday at the home of Mrs. W. E. Duckworth, with Mrs. R. B. Herman, leader of the section, and Mrs. J. T. Lyon as hostesses. Of the 30 members who have joined the section during its existence over the past three years, 18 were present yesterday, and two club women, Mrs. A. Dahl and Mrs. Leslie Bowen added their names to the membership roll. The section has a lot of bees buzzing in its bonnet, among them an apron sale about Christmas time. A card party, which will be given soon at the home of Mrs. W. E. Duckworth, a dance, possibly an out-of-door affair in the near future and a few other activities whereby financial gain may be made. A portion of the funds thus secured will be invested in materials for the aprons, although donations of either aprons or materials will be gladly received. The meeting was a very good one, indeed, and was attended by the Mesdames G. M. Simpson, T. Lumsdon, Leslie Bowen, A. Dahl, J. P. Probst, R. R. Pember, Mary Walte, Vic LaMont, Fred Schneider, A. Nagle, B. F. Jones, R. B. Herman, W. E. Duckworth, J. T. Lyon and Miss Esther Pember. Roll call was answered with favorite receptions and suggestions for menus. Punch and wafers were served for refreshment. This department of the club has been one of the most active in raising funds for the proposed new club house and with renewed energy after the summer vacation the ladies plan to add a very substantial addition to their present funds. PACKING HOUSE VISITORS Nettle G. Stonebraker or Washinger What Does it Means? Three of the prominent men of the First Christian church, one of them the pastor, Rev. L. L. Myers, are being eyed lth suspicion since last Friday night, for it is said they are all three in possession of articles which may be used by women, exclusively, and each man falteringly admits he did not purchase the articles which may be used by women, exclusively, and each man falteringly admits he did not purchase the article for his wife. Although of more or less intrinsic value, Rev. Myers realizes that a hairnet is always an acceptable present to a woman. Mr. N. F. Ballou, of a mere practical turn of mind, possessed himself of the handy kitchen utensil, a pot brush, while Mr. George McGuire, with an eye to personal adornment of some lady, slyly showed his property to be a string of pearl beads. All three of these men declare they "fished" the things from the "pond" conducted by Mrs. Morgan's Sunday school class at the social Friday evening, but it is easy to make claims these days. Anyhow, the wives will confiscate the feminine conveniences and avoid possible domestic trouble. The social was a great success, the tiny socks sent out with invitations bringing more than $22 returns. A good attendance and generous patronage of other entertainment features swelled the amount several dollars. Missouri Picnic Thursday The Free Methodist denomination, Rev. G. A. Anderson, pastor, is holding services in the tabernacle on Los Angeles and Wilhelmina-st., with Miss Ada Hall, evangelist, in charge. She will be assisted by Mrs. McCoid, who will lead the singing. The large tract of land where they formerly had hunted has now been taken over by the city of Los Angeles and after Sept. 26, any one caught totting a gun there will be jailed. There are about 6000 acres of this wooded land and in the interior is a large herd of deer. It is against the law to hunt in this section but is permissible on the outside. Mr. Houts states that during the several days they were there nine hunters were fined. This large tract will be developed into one of the country's finest play grounds. The underbrush has been cleared away and excavation has been started for a large plunge. It is planned to dredge a lake equal to Lake Arrowhead. Hughes Greenville, Del.—"I was under the impression that my eldest daughter had some internal trouble as ever since the first time her sickness appeared she had to go to bed and even had to quit school once for a week. I always take Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound myself so I gave it to her and she has received great benefit from it. You can use this letter for a testimonial if you wish, as I cannot say too much about what your medicine has done for me and for my daughter." — Mrs. Wm. S. Hughes, Greenville, Delaware. Mothers and oftentimes grandmothers have taken and have learned the value of Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound. So they recommend the medicine to others. The best test of any medicine is what it has done for others. For nearly fifty years we have published letters from mothers, daughters, and women, young and old, recommending the Vegetable Compound. They know what it did for them and are glad to tell others. In your own neighborhood are women who know of its great value. Mothers—daughters, why not try it?
