ANGEL SCOUT LOOKS
OVER LOCAL TALENT
APPARENTLY Secretary Webber of the Los Angeles Pacific Coast league team likes Anaheim baseball talent. After signing Doty Bush, the Elks' fast second-baseman, last Sunday, he notified Manager Billy Knott, today he would be on the job again tomorrow for another look at Anaheim's wares, notably Ray Bush and Phil Schrott, the local outfielders.
Secretary Webber will bring his family along and will be entertained at the Elks club.
The contract given Doty is considered very good for a starter. He gets $275 a month, whether he remains with the Angeles or is farmed out for more experience. Webber was anxious for Bush to report immediately, but he declined to do the L. A. uniform until spring training season comes around again. He didn't want to leave the Elks in the lurch at the windup of their championship right and he felt that since he has been playing but once a week he wouldn't do himself credit by attempting to step in with the regulars.
Webber knows he will see a regular ball game Sunday. Such is bound to be staked when two such teams as the Anaheim Elks and the Cox-Haas crew of Pasadena come together.
Herb Salveson has been delegated to the mound for the locals.
EVERY BOOT MAIN
EVENT LAST NIGHT
AT ATHLETIC ARENA
By Sorgum Sprout
The fistic feast pulled off at the Athletic Club arena last night was all that was expected, and then some, although three substitutes were necessary. There was action all the way. Ray Neil acted as the third man in the ring, the first three bouts. We like Ray's work. He keeps the boys hustling and makes them break clean.
In the curtain raiser that boxing match
ANAHEIM TEAMS IN SEVERAL LEAGUES
That Anaheim bowlers are going to attempt a wide swath the coming season is evidenced from the lineups for local teams in various "traveling" leagues, aside from the Anaheim city league. Here are tentative lineups with averages of bowlers:

Interurban League—Wednesday nights—Efker 178; Webb 159; Yeorn 168; Cordes 169; James 164; Holmes 166; Flesner 169; McGough 157.

The fistic feast pulled off at the Athletic Club arena last night was all that was expected and then some, although three substitutes were necessary. There was action all the way. Ray Neil acted as the third man in the ring, the first three bouts. We like Ray's work. He keeps the boys hustling and makes them break clean.
In the curtain raiser that boxing clown Wee Kid McCoy, kept the fans in an unproar as he pulled his various tricks, trying to reach through to his opponent, Young Lahey. Lahey had the reach by about half a foot and was almost as much taller. McCoy did all the leading and landed as many pushes as did Lahey, but the judges figured it out a draw. Anyway, it was a good little scrap.
Babe Orton subbed for Packy O'Farrell in the second bout. Tex Jones was the regular. Tex left his left jab he displayed to such an advantage a week ago at home. Tex is very careless to forget the necessary tricks of his trade. Last week he kept Babe away with that jab.
Last night Babe planted his heavy artillery and proceeded to use Tex for a punching bag. Tex started strong and lasted two minutes. In those two minutes Tex had landed 12 to 1. Orton landed a heavy one to Tex's temple in the last minute and Tex went groggy. The Indian saw the distress signal and cut loose with all he had and had Tex down when the bell rang.
Tex came back with a little flurry in the second but lasted short. The Indian knocked him down three times before the bewildered Tex would stay put. We'll say Tex is game.
Young Montaya tried subbing for Pete Wagner in the bout with Bennie Heller. Like that of last week, it was a lightning fast go. Bennie was a little stronger of the two. Montaya was a little faster. It looked a fifty-fifty affair, but the judge decided Bennie was the bees' knees.
In the semi-wind up, Jimmie Musso took the place of Joe Leopold who deserted Darnley to fight at Hollywood. Joe can go to China if he likes as long as Musso will sub for him. This Musso is a fighting fool and for once Johnny McGraw found his match. The boys didn't wait to warm up but met in the center of the ring and, man, how they did go! The first two rounds went to Musso. Johnny pulled the third out of the fire by a heavy clip to Musso's jaw that had the chill on the edge of coo-coo land. The fourth was a great slugging bee with McGraw a little winner. It was some draw and had the buga coo-coo all the way.
The main event was another great battle but failed to settle the question of supremacy. Johnny Ray looked to be stronger and Joe Chaney the best boxer. Ray was more aggressive than the previous week and fought a cleaner and better fight. He caught Joe off balance in the first with a chip to the jaw and sent the speed merchant through the ropes. The blow did not slow Joe up in any way and he gave Ray much to worry about, with left swings that carried a lot of sting in them. It was a great draw, but the judges split hairs and gave Ray the decision.
Every bout was a good one. Not a slack moment marred the entertainment. It was one of the good shows when every number was a main event.
Mabee Never in Better Condition, Say Admirers
By Sorgum Sprout
Those who witnessed Mabee work out at the Elks gymnast last evening are marveling at Ray's condition. There are numbers who will gamble that Ray never was as nea rphysical perfection as now. It's admirers are getting more and more confident of his ability as they see his preparing for the greatest match of his career.
The seats are going like hot cakes. Never was there such an advance seat sale to any sport event in this section. Reservations are being televised.
Santel is expected today. He will also work out at the Elks gymnast. He is in excellent condition and will do only light work.
Random is all tense as the day draws nearer. It will be some great gathering. It is a good thing there is no roof on the arena for if Roy roof right off.
It was mild and pleasant in the arena last night, and Tuesday evening it should be the same. Everything points to perfect conditions.
Work of adding to the seating capacity began today. Possibly the arena will be made to accommodate FOR RENT room, with S. Lemon.

CLUB TO HAVE NEW ANTI-THIEF DRIVE
Auto thieves hereabouts are directing their energies to new fields, according to officials of the Automobile club of So. Cal.
Now they are stealing any part of an automobile, in case they cannot get away with the whole car. One of their newest stunts is to take the lenses out of the headlights. Many auto owners have returned to their car to find it as blind as a bat, so far as any glass in the headlights is concerned.
More than $1,000,000 worth of automobiles is a total loss to motorists so far this year, say detectives of the Auto club theft bureau, and over $2,000,000 in cars has been stolen, but about $1,000,000 worth have been stolen, but about $1,000,000 worth have been recovered.
While southern and central California have achieved some fame as a winter resort for wealthy eastern tourists, it has also acquired some fame as a nice warm place for auto thieves at the same time. It is pointed out. Motorists here have greater need to protect themselves against the raids of theft gangs than any other part of the United States because of the many good roads in this section, the large number of cars and the leniency of the state laws.
A campaign against thieves which is calculated to strike terror to the heart of the most daring is planned by the Auto club for this winter. New detectives have been engaged by the club's theft bureau to operate throut out the counties in which the club Santel is expected today. He will also work out at the Elks gymn. He is in excellent condition and will do only light work.
Fandom is all tense as the day draws nearer. It will be some great gathering. It is a good thing there is no roof on the arena for if Roy roof right off.

TIRE VALUES MORE CAREFULLY SCALED
Tire prices especially standard makes carrying the standard warranty, have become so carefully scaled according to value that it is difficult to determine which brand to choose, say James, the Vulcanizer, who distributes the Horse Shoe, Alax and Goodyear tires here. Of the latter he is one of three distributors, Nenno & Bock and George Dunton being the others. It is becoming more nearly true than ever before, says James, that the more you pay the better tire you get. This of course always has been true of cords as compared with fabrics. The only opportunity, up to the time of the present price slashes, for a purchaser to get an appreciably better value with one make than with another was at sales.
James, long before the general price reductions here, had cut all of his tires markedly. With the present reductions, in vogue for several weeks past, it is possible for the man of judgment who patronizes a distributor who wants him to come back, to buy certain makes of tire cheaper, value considered, than other make.
James says he gives his purchasers a square deal because he knows it pays to have a steady patronage.
From 1868 to the present time, oil production in the United States has doubled every ten years.
