BUENA PARK FIELD IS STILL DOUBTFUL With the Oil Operators Buena Park is still in the doubtful field. The Standard Oil Company's Mitchell No. 1 has arrived at 4600 feet without getting any oil. The condition of the hole is excellent and it is the intention of the Standard to proceed with a deep test hole. Will Bellflower be the next oil field of Sou. Calif.? This question will be answered soon by the Perry Mineral Indicator Company. The Mineral Indicator Company has closed leases aggregating 200 acres and intend to test out the showings assured by the Indicator with the drill. This is the first time in the history of California development that an oil locating concern has backed its judgement and findings with actual cash and intentions to drill and make a thorough and substantial test. The company that will operate at Bellflower will be known as the Fidvein Oil and Refining Company. The Union Oil Co. stopped drilling on the Downey Community well at 3300 and put in a string of ten inch casing. The showings up to date were nothing more than the usual brown shale showings. The drilling has gone good on this well and something good will be expected soon. The Chino-Corona United planted an oil productino string at 4240 ft. and is about to test out some showings that have occurred from 3800 feet on. Should the test fail to reveal a commercial producer it is the intention to go ahead and drill in open hole. At Redondo the General Petroleum Corporation completed Carson No. 1 at 3400 feet. Oil sand showing at 3100 and with 300 feet of "pay" in the hole Carson No. 1 should make a creditable showing. The discovery well of the Redondo field, the Chasler-Canfield Midway's Del Amo No. 1 sprung a real surprise by breaking loose and producing 600 barrels. The well had been making about 200 but for a number of weeks has been steadily declining, and got down as low as forty bbls. The sudden and substantial increase in production the well has made comes at a time when the Redondo field needed just such encouragement. The La Habra Midway well at 4334 looked so good that it was best to discontinue drilling and set a string of $8½ casing. The brown sandy shale has been showing oil colors and gas in quantity. How much poverty and need exists and how many working districts of the large German cities. The way change them for food shavings which are very dear the peelings to the farmers who pay fair money for is very expensive. Photo shows peelings being exhanced. TO EXTRACT JUICE A Danish chemist claims to have perfected a process by which the juice extracted from sugar cane is immediately purified without the use of lime. "Cops," the nickname for police men, was used in ancient Rome. duction the well has made comes at a time when the Redondo field needed just such encouragement. S., is planned to make practical, rather than theoretical ranchers. Each boy is required to take part in some type of farm work that is carried out in a commercial manner. So far as possible he should have the management of the project and be responsible for its success or failure. The boy will thus get much valuable experience in farm management that the average farm boy does not get. The father usually plans the farm work for the boy, rather than with him. But thru this home school work it is expected that the boy and father do the planning together, which will give the boy some insight into the head work of the ranch as well as the hand work. This home work may be in the nature of a production project, such as the growing of crops, the raising of live stock, poultry, or it may be in the line of a farm management project for such as keeping records of expenses, income, etc., of the home ranch, and determining the net income from the farm. Most of the projects of recent years have been of the production type, but it is thought that a number of boys who find these inconvenient, may wish to take up the farm management projects this year. A careful record of the cost of the various operations of the farm for a number of years, with the income from its numerous sources, should have a real value to the boy who plans on ranching as a life work. All project work is under the general supervision of instructors from the High School. Record blanks are also furnished for the students, and instruction given in proper methods of keeping and interpreting them. Some of the boys who have kept such records have been able to supply their fathers with all the data necessary for making up income tax reports, which speaks well for the type of work done. Every effort is made to have the work carried out as carefully and accurately as possible. 2 ROAD DISTRICTS WILL BE FORMED The formation of two new road districts are anticipated today in connection with the proposed paving of four miles of Placentia road. Supervisors are expected to act at their meeting next Tuesday. That action will be speedy was indicated in the discussion before the board Tuesday. Supervisor Wm. Schumacher said today the ball would start rolling at once. One of the two districts, on Placentia road, has been dispelled. The Fairview Off Company drilling at 4100 feet ran thru a hundred feet of dark brown shale that showed oil enough to warrant a commercial producer without further drilling. The hole is being measured up and a string of 8% will be set soon. Drilling at Fairview ha shield the interest of operators for a number of months and prediction all the way from 3200 to 3800 were made on the striking of the oil sand. DISPELL DOUBTS ABOUT FAIRVIEW With the Oil Operators All doubts about Fairview have been dispelled. One of the two districts, on Placentia road south of the Olive road to the Ball road and on Wagner-ave between Placentia-ave and the Santa Ana river, would be included in the third supervisorial district. The other, on Placentia-ave, from the Ball road south to the State highway near the County Hospital, would be included in the fourth supervisorial district. If the matter reaches a head next Tuesday, a resolution of intention to pave is expected to be passed. SWISS INDUSTRY NOT SUFFERING The Swiss watch and clock industry, unlike other Swiss industries, does not suffer acutely from competition, because no country, which before the war was not a watch and clock producer, can have complained manufacturing on such a scale as to constitute a menace to Switzerland's well-established foreign trade says Consul Mathee, Zurich, in a recent dispatch to the Department of Commerce. Therefore, although much time will pass before flourishing conditions will obtain, the Swiss clock and watch industry promises to come back into the strong position it occupied before the present depression commenced. Switzerland exported $1,299,432 worth of watches, clocks and parts to the United States during the last quarter of 1921, and $1,391,000 worth during the first quarter of 1922. The total value of watches and clocks exported from Switzerland amounted to $6,577,729 for the third quarter of 1921, and $7,381,545 for the last quarter o 1921, and $5,968,146 for the last quarter of 1922. Decreased exports to Germany and Austria are chiefly responsible for the drop in total values in the first quarter of 1922. From these figures it can be seen that the value of exports in the fourth quarter of 1921 increased over the value of exports during the third quarter. This was probably due to the Christmas trade. The notable decline in export values for the first quarter of 1922 is indicative of the real state of affairs in the Swiss watch and clock industry. Passing the 3800 mark the next station was set at 4400 the depth of the Standard's Surf 2. The getting of such a good showing at 4100 came as something of a surprise. At Fullerton the Dolke-Thomas Oil Syndicate has resumed operations and will drill its own well. The Federal drilling Company after making three attempts to get a hole down has relinquished its contract and the Dolke-Thomas Syndicate goes ahead well is located south of the Union Oil Co.'s hole lease and has attracted more attention perhaps than any wildde well located in Southern California. The Bixby Hills' has yet to claim its right to become an oil field. The National Security Oil Company, a subsidiary of the Beatty Oil Company is drilling at 4225 feet and has not found any very encouraging showings of oil. The well is located near Orange County Park and should it make good a lot of new territory will be opened up. PLAN SANTA ANA THEATER Planning to build a theater in Santa Ana, the West Coast Theatres, Inc., has had a representative, Michael Gore of Los Angeles, looking for sites. The corporation is trying to interest property owners in the project. WILL NOT INJURE German experts have developed a process for manufacturing textiles from artificial silk waste that can be washed and boiled with soap without injury. In the southern hemisphere Autumn extends from March 22 to June 22. Every effort is made to have the work carried out as carefully and accurately as possible. Last spring the boys of the class shipped about seven car-loads of cabbage, thereby gaining much valuable experience and some money. They now have in approximately 75 acres of tomatoes, from which they expect to make good returns. From this it is evident that the agricultural work in the high school has a practical and financial value. BULLFIGHTERS LESS AGILE PARIS, Sept. 15—Either the bulls are learning game or bull-fighters are becoming less agile. The causalties among bull-fighters are more numerous and serious this year than in the last 10 years both in Spain and France. Usually bull-fighting is classed as a desirable insurance risk. But so far this season there have been no less than a score of casualties. In one Sunday in Spain two matadors were killed and three men injured. At Murcia the well-known matador Lagartigill was killed when the maddened bull gored him thrue the chest. The same bull gored a banderillero and a pleader. Both were seriously hurt.
