News of Fullerton WICKERSHEIM GETS $60,000 PERMIT A permit has been taken out by J. W. Wickersheim, Ford agent for a new two-story $60,000 garage and office building on Commonwealth-ave M. Eugene Durfee of Anaheim is architect for the new building, and work is expected to begin shortly. The building fronts 52 feet along West Commonwealth-ave., and is 155 feet deep. It is to be erected on the site of the present building. Work on the excavation for the $200,000 Chapman building on No. Spadra-rd, which was begun a few days ago is progressing rapidly and at the present rate will be excavated within a few days. Work on the new California Hotel is progressing slowly. The building is drawing near completion. REDUCES INSURANCE RATES Fullerton insurance agents have been busy returning premiums to their customers who took out insurance policies after June 11 because of the reduction in rates at that time, it is said. The rates for Fullerton, as reduced by the board of fire underwriters of Los Angeles, is 45 cents, charging nothing for exposures. Heretofore charges were made for exposures, and some times the rates were very high, it is said. SURVEY REAL ESTATE Fullerton realtors are planning a survey of real estate conditions in Fullerton with the view of putting on a campaign for the reduction of house and room rents to a figure that is best adapted to making these interesting to investors. The realtors expect to have the close cooperation of the B. of T. Mrs. Grace Hahn, with daughter, Louise of Culver City, is spending a few days with her friend, Mrs. INSTITUTE HELD AT FULLERTON OCT. 18-20 The county institute of grammar school teachers is to be held at the Fullerton grammar school Oct. 18-20 it was announced this morning by C. A. Marcey, principal of Fullerton grammar schools. Mr. Marcey says that it has been suggested that the Fullerton schools remain in session on the first day of the institute for observation. Mr. Marcey gives the enrollment last night at 1089. Mrs. A. A. Rowland and two children, who have been visiting in the east for two months have returned to her home on West Orangethroppe. She arrived this morning via the Santa Fe. The regular weekly band concert will be given tonight at the Fullerton city park. A special program will be given. FORD DEALERS OF ORANGE CO. CONFERENCE The six Ford dealers of Orange-co., including George Dunton of Anaheim, met at the Cherry Blossom Cafe, Santa Ana, yesterday for a conference which was addressed by B. L. Graves, manager, and J. B. Groves, assistant manager, of the Ford Motor Co., Los Angeles, and Geo. W. Bryant, representative of Long-Costello, Inc., who handle all Ford advertising. Sales methods and advertising were discussed at length. Nothing was mentioned by the Ford officials about Henry Ford's ultimatum to close all his factories tomorrow on account of coal profitcering. Johnny Weismuller who has defeated all swimmers, recently acknowledged that the only person he had to fear in the immediate future was his brother, Peter Weismuller who is only sixteen years old and was never in a swimming tank until a year ago. UNCOVER ALIEN OPERATION PEKING, Sept. 15.—The Chinese chamber of commerce at Nanking Las begun a movement for the registration of all companies in which Chinese and foreigners are co-operating, suggesting to the government at Pekin that all Sino-foreign concerns standing, so as not to mislead the Chinese in their legitimate business relations with these companies." LUMBER ADVANCES $5.00 WHOLESALE In the last three months, lumber has risen as much as $5.00 per 1000 feet wholesale and from $2.00 to $4.00 retail, according to local dealers. Production, according to a representative of the Adams-Bowers Lumber Co., has been cut approximately 25,000,000 feet per day, owing to forest fires in No. Calif., Washington and Oregon and the increased demand. Several mills have been burned, including one two days ago in Madera-co that is a large producer of white pine. Fir, spruce and cedar are the principal woods handled here. Siding has risen $5.00, wholesale and retail, but retail prices in many instances, according to the firm, have not gone up as much as wholesale prices. Flooring, ceiling and finish compose the bulk of the lumber that has advanced. Dealers also are being compelled to wait 30 or 40 days for deliveries, according to A. E.
