CHANEY AND RAY ARE IN FINE SHAPE
JOE Chaney and Johnny Ray, those two good boys who are to box the main event Friday night at the Athletic Club's Arena, are both down to the hard grind of training once more. They are both reported to be in prime shape. By Friday, they should be in the 'Pink' and able to put up the battle of their lives.
These lads furnished local fight bugs a whale of a scrap last week and it will long be remembered as the greatest ever pulled off hereabouts. It was pip and tuck throut. Chaney undoubtedly had the edge. In the first two rounds he piled up a comfortable lead but that never to be forgotten third round, when Ray sailed into the Whittier idol and came very near putting the crusher on him, evened things up a bit. In the fourth it was give and take. The judges' verdict of a draw met with instant approval. This time, however, Johnny Ray says, he intends to go after Joe from the first tap of the bell and if Chaney escapes a K. O. he can consider himself lucky.
Ray's pride was 'hurt some' last Friday when he let Joe stay the limit and hold him to a draw when he has been meeting and defeating some of the best boys of his weight at Vernon.
Chaney says it will be the other way round Friday. There is doubt of it that Chaney is becoming a hitter. He stung Ray several times and any boyless game than the and any boy less game than the down for the count.
Daruley also has another bout that he figures will be a 'hummingger'. He has that scrappy youngster, Johnny McGraw, lined up with a newcomer, Joe Leopold. Joe is reputed to be 'some pumkins' with his mitts. He will have to be put over anything on our Johnny. Leopold is just about the best boy that McGraw has been called upon to meet so far and which ever way it goes, both boys will have known
GRAPPLE ATTRACTS WIDE ATTENTION; EVERYBODY COMING
By Sargum Sprout
Seats for the big wrestling match went on sale this morning at the United Cigar Store. Inquiries the past two or three days indicate all the ringside and reserved seats will be taken before Monday. There are several large parties of Oklahoma friends and admirers of Roy Mabe going to attend in a body. Delegations from Los Angeles and Long Beach have already asked for reservations. The way things are shaping up, the old arena, with added accommodations will not be adequate to take care of the people.
This sport classic is drawing people from all parts of So Calif. Wrestling is a very popular sport when carried on in a good, clean way. In

Three corking good preliminaries are also down on the bill and action galore is promised fight bugs next Friday night.
COX-HAAS COMING HERE NEXT SUNDAY
The Cox-Haas team of Pasadena, one of the fastest semi-pro teams in Sou. Cal., has been procured by Manager Billy Knott for a game with Annheim Elks on the local high school field next Sunday afternoon.
The game has been arranged to keep the local champs in form for the state title contest at the Cal. Elks convention in Santa Monica in three weeks.
The Cox-Haas crew, originally consisted of two sets of brothers of the take the place families at Pasadena baseball.
The Cox-Haas crew is one of the few to obtain a win over the locals this year. That was last spring. The question is: Can they repeat?

This sport classic is drawing people from all parts of So. Calif. Wrestling is a very popular sport when carried on in a good, clean way. In fact, wrestling would be more popular than boxing if the game had not fallen into the hands of cheap sports who introduce so many fake matches, and allow rough and dirty tricks to creep in.
Roy Mabee has established a record of clean wrestling. Everyone feels that when Roy steps on the mat, there will be no fake. Suntel's record is remarkable in that it covers about nine years as champion and about as many years working up to the championship without the least shadow or hint of trickery. This will be a match of two clean, high class sportsmen. Both men are of the sort you would be glad to entertain in your home and to call your friends.
Every seat in the arena is a good one. The lighting system will show every move of the contestants. If you want reserved seats, better get them while the getting is good.
GRIDKON PRACTICE
WILL OPEN MONDAY
Fullerton H. S. and J. C. football practice will start Monday Sept. 18 at 3:30 p.m. it was announced today by A. L. Nunn, new junior college athletic coach; "Shorty" Smith, high school first team athletic coach; and Glenn D. Lewis, high school second team athletic coach.
Mr. Smith is to be in charge of the first team unlimited, and Mr. Lewis of the lightweights. Mr. Nunn is to be in charge of the junior college players.
It is said that the junior college athletic prospects are unusually bright. Mr. Nunn has just lately been discharged from the navy where, as athletic officer, he coached and captained service teams, and, according to Mr. Lewis, is both by experience and training exceptionally well fitted to handle the Fullerton J. C. boys.
There is an abundance of material for the best football year in the history of the college, and Mr. Nunn requests that all the J. C. football players be present at all the practices possible.

CUT BY BARNACLES
Billy Daraley, manager of the Anaheim Athletic club, is slowly recovering from severe lacerations and bruises about his arms and legs, sustained Sunday at Balboa Beach. Daraley and Bill Arnett attempted to swim out to the end of the pier. They were caught in an unusually strong undertow and carried underneath the pier. In an attempt to keep himself from going under, Daraley clung to the pier which is thickly covered with barnacles and was badly cut. Arnett reached the top of the pier without any trouble but Daraley experienced considerable difficulty, and is thanked for lucky stars today that he is able to be about.
Friends Present Book
Miss Grace Curtis was the honorate at a delightful and cleverly arranged surprise party last evening at her home east of Anaheim. The guests went to the Curtiss home in their machines and quietly slipped up on the porch. They rang the bell, which was answered by Miss Curtis and for a few moments she was very much surprised. After games, the guests presented the honoree with a book as a token of their friendship.
Ice cream and cake which they had brought with them was thoroly enjoyed in the late evening hours. Joining in the happy surprise were the Misses Laura Schutz, Bessie Woodhouse, Opal DeWitt, the Messrs Carence and Harold Bircher. Clarence Curtiss and Clifford Elliott.

CONFUSION OVER HEADLIGHT LAW
“There seems to be much confusion in the minds of motorists regarding the stipulations necessary to comply with the new headlight law,” states A. Bevillard of the Anaheim Ignition Depot, “in fact,” adds Mr. Bevillard, “many have been lead to believe by misleading reports and information that it will be absolutely necessary for them to avail themselves of a certificate of inspection.”
“This is not necessary. Anyone so inclined can acquaint themselves with the requirements of the law and adjust them accordingly.
However, a certificate carries with it a certain amount of weight in an argument with a motor cycle officer. If stopped for a violation it would be the best evidence anyone could produce to show that the headlights had received the proper attention.
The Anaheim Ignition Depot arter much delay has received its necessary equipment and is prepared to render square, honest service, as an official light adjusting station.
“The change for making the necessary adjustments to headlights as fixed by the Motor Vehicle Department is seventy-five cents. This is the full amount that can be charged for this service,” states Mr. Bevillard.” In some cases where the lenses or other devices do not meet the requirements or a change is necessary in the construction, the adjusting stations are forced to consult the car owner before continuing the work.
