MAXWELL MODELS ARE REDUCED AGAIN
More cuts on cars. The Maxwell sedan now costs $1555 instead of $1710 and the coupe $1445 instead of $1595, Turton & Lumsdon, local distributors of the Maxwell and Chalmers, announce. The Chalmers was cut recently during the rather general reductions made on cars, but not the Maxwell. The Maxwell touring already is the cheapest car on the market for the money, says the firm.
Frank Williams of Anaheim has purchased a new Chalmers of Turton & Lumsdon. A. E. Baker has purchased a used Buick six.

TROUBLE BY VIBRATION
If a motor is subject to considerable vibration there is danger of the bolts coming loose at the base. A wrench should be applied occasionally to make sure that everything is tight. If this is not attended to, almost anything may happen, from oil leakage to a wrecked engine.

DUESENBERG MOTOR IS BEING IMPROVED
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 2.—Marking another constructive step in the automobile racing game and one that will furnish the fans an even greater program of speed, the news has reached Los Angeles that Fred Duesenberg, famed automotive engineer and the cerator of several racing cars that have carried his name to glory through scores of speed menus, is giving the Duesenberg cars now racing a new lease on life by designing and building several new heads for his motors, capable of greater speed!
This became known when Jerry Wonderlich, speed king, whose performances have woh international recognition for him, completed arrangements to ship his car back to the Dusenberg factory at Indianapolis last week. He and Terry Curley, his riding mechanician, arrived here two weeks ago after the Cotati races, and were working on the car in the shop of the local Duesenberg "straight eight" distributor, completing every detail with the exception of the head cylinder head. Originally designed for speeds which, at the greatest, were not to be more than 106 or 107 miles an hour, pilots of the Ruesenberg cars, including Wonderlich, Melcher, Eddie Hearne and at the time, Harry Hartz, succeeded by changing carburetor jets, timing of the motors in valve action and spark, and other details, in putting the speed up to approximately 118 or 119 miles.
In the last few starts, however, the motors of Jimmy Murphy, Tommy Milton, Frank Elliott and Bennett Hill, of the straight eight design, but with a double overhead camshaft action on valves, have developed such amazing speed that it was not uncommon to hear the remark that the "Duesles were through;" that the game was too fast for them. But not so, with the latest Duesenberg step.
The new cylinder heads were designed primarily for the double camshaft action, which will greatly increase speed, drivers declare, and they ought to know, that several other little changes are also planned by the master engineer to add to the zest of the sport. Wonderlich's remark, in speaking of the great things expected from the new additions to
RELIABLE TIRE CO., GETS APEX SUPPLY
The Reliable Tire Co., of So. Los Angeles-st., has received practically a complete line both of fabrics and cords in the Apex line. How long the new supply will last is uncertain, and prospective purchasers are advised to make early selections and put in their orders as soon as possible.
There has been a phenomenal demand for this latest output of the Para-Bell Tire & Rubber Co., which claims the Apex is the cheapest cord tire at the price on any American market. The cord sells at $12.50 for the 30x3½ with higher prices for larger sizes. Fabrics still cheaper.
The bottom for tire prices has been reached in the opinion of a well-known Los Angeles manufacturer who has just returned from a two months' trip thru the East.
DISC WHEELS FOR DODGE AVAILABLE
Dodge Bros. are prepared to fill dealers' orders for Michelin wheels on various models of cars and prices which enables even the moderate purse to obtain them, say Charley Mann, distributor here. Dealers are becoming more and more interested in these wheels because of their attractiveness, unlimited wear and convenience.
Disc wheels in fact are becoming standard equipment on various makes of cars.
Equipment of the Dodge with them means one more feature like change of body lines etc. in the direction of making the machine more beautiful.
Mann has been sorely handicapped like many other dealers by the failure of cars to arrive. Prospect have not been willing to wait till time necessary, strike or no strike because of the fine weather.
The local distributor assures his patrons that five cars now enroute to him, three touring cars, a coupe and a sedan. These will be delivered first come served.

LARGE CROPS HELP AUTO INDUSTRY
they can't understand how the contending factions, realizing that the strike means a loss of probably at least $5,000,000 a day to the strikers and billions to the industries of the country, can much longer continue without some kind of a settlement.
"And once a permanent settlement is achieved, if it comes in time, they guarantee that they will make the most of their crop abundance in a way that will assure a greater era of prosperity than they have experienced for a long time."
ENAMELED LEATHER IS AT ITS BEST NOW
"Enameled leather certainly came to its most appreciated use in the car upholstery," said a veteran Velie owner, according to McGraw Bros., of Fullerton, distributors.
"Remember the old days when the porous dull finished leather began to acquire a dusty appearance—usually on its first trip cut? No amount of care or cleaning could save it. Today the dust simply slides off the smooth, shiny surface of the enameled seats and backs. The upholstery of the old car looks just as good as when new."
Chevrolet Utility Coupe New Creation
The Chevrolet utility coupe, which the Frank P. Taggart Co., distributors, has been displaying in Anaheim and Fullerton, has been arousing increasing interest among business men who see in it an ideal solution of their problem of getting about among the trade.
This machine is meant for short, quick trips, particularly by salemen, who must carry a considerable amount of advertising matter or samples with them. The rear compartment has rom for a 36-inch steamer trunk and two suit cases of the usual size.
This coupe is as good-looking as it is useful, a conveyance of which no man drumming up trade needs to be ashamed.
It is small enough to travel any kind of a road, light enough to conserve gasoline, oil and tires, sturdy enough to stand considerable punishment.
