PLACENTIA MUTUAL OFTEN TOPS MARKET
Mr. S. L. Moore,
Placentia, Cal.
Dear Mr. Moore:
Since you have mentioned the big claims made by the Anaheim Plain Dealer for the Anaheim brands of Oranges, I take pleasure in submitting to you the following figures:
A recapitulation of all of the daily auction inspection and sales reports for the 1922 Valencias season up to August 25th, shows that our "Altissimo brand has sold in the same market on the same day with the corresponding grades — "California Belle" — "Anaheim Gloriana" — "Ananeim Supreme" and "La Habra" — twenty-five times and has outsold or in other words has brought more money size twenty-two times. Our "Shamrock" brand has sold in the same market on the same day with the corresponding grades — "Carmencita" — "Delicia" "Mother Colony","Reliable" "Yorba" and "Basque"— forty-four times and has outsold these brands size for size forty-two times.
These figures are taken from the auction inspection reports, and cannot be denied. Will gladly go over these reports with you or any other interested party.
Very truly yours,
PLACENTIA MUTUAL ORANGE ASSOCIATION,
By H. O. Easton, Mgr
(Mr. Moore was in the Plain Dealer office and brought the foregoing letter with him. We told him that representatives of our own association had objected to what they regarded as the immoderate favorable publicity given associations outside Anaheim for their price showings. Most of the "stories" published in the Plain Dealer have been based upon actual figures from day to day in the Eastern markets for all brands of California oranges. Manager H. B. Easton does well to call attention to the fact that it is high prices for an extended period and not for a limited number of times that count. Better still, of course, it is average prices of all grades of oranges for an entire season that are statistically most nearly exact and representative...
